Concise, no xtra nonsense… liking the videos my friend… secret tip.. I noticed you have an etched finish.. two cool tips… drip like ten drops of oil (wd40 etc) into a cup of your etching mix which is ferric chloride… then slowly plunge the knife in and leave… the oil resists and you get a pattern like a Damascus… second cool tip… after ferric chloride submerge the blade in rat poison… watch the results!! Looks awesome

I’ve really been wanting to get into bladesmithing… like REALLY bad. Been looking at belt grinders and kilns but you’ve given me a little motivation to try it with cheap tools first. If I love that long enduring process I’m bound to stick with the craft with the proper tools! Only thing I’ve ever liked about my chef job was using the knives… so thinking I’d enjoy my life a lot more if I could just make a living creating my beloved knives 😂

Love this video Cole. I love ‘em all. One of my favorite things is your brutal honesty. Showing every little pitfall and mistake. It truly helps us all learn even more. And might even give me the courage to start including all the goofs I make into my own videos! Well done brother.

Sir When did you make the cutting edge of the knife before quenching or before tempering ? Your voices and explanation are much better
@Wengelsworkshop
@Wengelsworkshop Жыл бұрын
putting an actual cutting edge on the knife should be the absolute last thing you do. so after quench and after the knife is completely finished

I think that knife looks great. You could recenter the pin by taking a little material off the back, making it a little more narrow.

next time grind the scales to the shape of the knife tang before glue up leaving about 3/8 of matieral so you can finish by sanding it down
@zacharywilliams6499
@zacharywilliams6499 Жыл бұрын
Trace the tang on the outside of one of the scales before glue up. Then trim to that line before you shape the handle…
@Wengelsworkshop
@Wengelsworkshop Жыл бұрын
Yeah I 100% should have traced them to the outside.

I like the acid etch... is it 100 percent strength? How long did you leave it in the acid bath? Thanks, J-
@Wengelsworkshop
@Wengelsworkshop Жыл бұрын
generally i think people use distilled water and do roughly half and half or a third acid and 2/3rds water. i usually do baths for about 5 min and if i want it darker clean and repeat.
