Thank you for your sharing. I've been reading Powerlifting USA since the late eighties and still you teach me new things. I'm 52 and will squat 550 on my 55th birthday. Appreciate you!

I think genetics, your GPP, discipline, injury prevention/mitigation, diet, supplementation, SLEEP, underlying health conditions, age, muscle fiber/recruitment ability, CNS, ligament tendons/strength all play a part in how far you can take your strength and performance.

Dr.Matt love you and your advice and training protocols have helped transform my training after years. My profile name is the powerlifting gym I was apart of. But I wanna push back on one thing, Arnold in the 70's was at the least 6'1 or so. Those guys lived by measurements and the thousands of pictures of he and all the other guys that were 5'10 or above, his height with them.. Well if he's lying that means every single bodybuilder was off in their height measurements. He and Frank Zane for example, Frank was listed at 5'9 and in at least 90 pictures Arnold could see over his head standing normally. The difference between 5'9 and 5'10 don't look like that unless again, everyone lied.

On the point of pain and fear of pain, I'm sure you remember a guy called Dave Barno. He was unreal for pain tolerance. I remember reading somewhere he deadlifted with a broken back.

What do you think of strongman competitors and their genes for lifting? Hafthor looked pretty average in build when he played basketball

Mr. Wenning: as a 47 strenght training enthusiast ( not a powerlifter or bodybuilder but a man who trains 3 to 4 times a week combining different tupes of strenght training methids and rep ranges ), I think there a nice discussion to be had on the use of weightlifting belts in older individuals like me. Some people in the space say that belts are no good for non powerlifters because they can develop bad habits or decrease your core strenght and stabilization. I disagree bid time, I think they are really valuable just because rhey decrease the risk of a lower back injury when squatting or deadlifting when using relatively heavy weights. Am I right ? Or should I be able to not get hurt by just bracing using the valsalva maneuver ? In my opinion, sometimes the core is tired and it is really risky because a lower back injury can take one out for a long time. Can you make a video about this ? Thanks.

Naim Suleymanoglu was 4 ft 10 inches tall. The first time he tried the clean and jerk, he did over bodyweight.

GREAT video big man! 😂i dont think chuck had the ability to realize fear in a lifting situation. Louie told me a story once and i think a version may be in the movie or a clip, he knowingly could only do a specific weight (just random)going for a PR, and missed, then he later ask to load 80 more pounds😂
