When the clerk would see what I was doing, “Sorry, we don’t accept checks.” I would say, “Oh, these aren’t checks.” Then I would hand her one of the bills and watch the puzzled look on her face. “I’ve never seen one of these before.” I would reply, “You do accept Hawaiian money, don’t you?” More than once the bewildered clerk would say, “Just a minute, sir, I’ll have to ask my manager.” (True story.)

Gumardee - I don't know for sure about the $2 Bill, but the reason U.S. half dollars are not more popular is that they are too large and too heavy a coin to carry in pockets. (especially in the days when they were still silver) So people generally do not like them much. Also, merchants did not necessarily like to take them or carry them, because most modern registers do not have a slot to put a "fifth" coin in. (Penny, Nickel, Dime, Quarter).

It is funny to see the people who think the two dollar bill is somehow rare because they have likely never seen one in circulation and think the denomination is odd. We have had weirder denominations than they two dollar bill. In currency or bank notes, we use to have national currency which was issued bu the local banks, bank of Pittsburgh , and state, bank of Georgia to be used there. Some states had three dollar bills being traded. Then, we had fractional currency that was used during the coin shortage of the civil war era that caused people to start using stamps as currency. We used ¢3, ¢5, ¢10, ¢15, ¢25, and ¢50. Coinage get even weirder. For the united state we had half cents, two cents, three cents, half dimes, twenty cents, gold coin such as the dollar, two dollar and fifty cent known as the quarter eagle, five dollar known as the half eagle, ten dollar known as the eagle, and finally the $20 double eagle.

May 4th, 2020... I picked up $100.00 of $2.00's at a bank, 85 miles north of me. I waited for the teller due to the Covid-19 social distancing, and the other day, April 30, 2020, I scored $50.00 at a drive thru... May 1st, 2020, I scored $12.00 bucks in $2.00's. The problem? No air conditioning in the Texas Heat! :) I do have a good / bad experience, finding $2.00's.. Usually in crisp or worn condition. No Red Seals... "YET" Then I spent $20.00 worth of $2.00's at a car wash charity... ;) Thanks John for inspiring me.

😅😅 A hard day's work is going to different banks and asking for 2 dollar bills!! And my guess of how many you would get was way too low! I thought you would get like 100 of them for $200 total. But you ended up with almost $1000! And I once had confused a few people years ago by calling single dollars "ones". They hadn't known what I was talking about even though that is what THEY had just been talking about! Some people... 😅

Got it at a spy store near where I live. I am trying to become an Amazon affiliate marketer, at which time I would add a link to buy one on this video's page. But you can search Amazon or just Google in general. Not too pleased with this though. Sometimes the image recorded flipped horizontally or even upside down (which we had to fix in editing). And the sound seems to record at a different speed than the picture, so we constantly had to adjust to line it back up. Still, no one at any bank suspected what I was doing. Plus, I could see a live feed on my phone, so I was able to check it and adjust on the fly at times. Worth it for this video alone, but we'll do more videos with it.

The common misconception that the $2 note is no longer being produced also remains,[14] though $2 notes have been printed since 1862, except for a 10-year hiatus between 1966 and 1976. The U.S. Treasury reports that $1,549,052,714 worth of $2 bills were in circulation worldwide as of April 30, 2007.[14]

From working at bank they typically carry at least $200. They can also order them for you typically takes a week.

So, 2 out of 10 banks here had $200 or more; the average was just under $100 per bank. Of course, go to 10 different banks and you'll get a different nunber, so you're probably right on with your assessment. Just didn't work out for this trip.

Most banks, you need an account. But it's silly - a bank is a bank, especially when you're just, say, changing a $10 for 5 $2s. But if you're going to ask a bank to order some for you, you should probably have an account.
