I’ve been lucky in the past asking bank tellers for 2 dollar bills. Really old ones came my way. I actually gave one away as a part of a tip because it’s condition was so bad it hurt to look at it. The bank should have destroyed it or sent back to federal reserve to destroy it. What I’d really like to find in my stocking in Christmas some day is a 5000 dollar bill. They’re way out of circulation which makes them so valuable. So I’d settle for a ten dollar coin. They can be worth a bunch of money depending on variables. Because the intrinsic value always stays put.

At Christmas he gifted some to his grandchildren and one went complaining to their mother and stated, "Why did Papaw give us fake money?" Loved the story, but miss the old guy more. I have always been fascinated by $2 bills! Ever since my first niece was born in 1992 I started enclosing $2 bills, 50 Cent pieces, and $1 coins when they came out, in her birthday cards, as well as *every* child’s birthday card in my family & for friends children since then. I always encouraged the children and their parents to save some (if not all) of those notes and coins. (Don’t worry, they received “everyday” money they could spend, along with their gifts too. 😉 😊) Unfortunately, not a single person has _even one_ note _or coin_ that I’ve given them through the years. 🤷🏼♀️ *Funny story:* For the past 20 years, or so, whenever I get paid, I go to the bank and get as many $2 they have just to spend in my everyday life. It’s always fun to see the expression on people’s faces when you pay for something with $2 bills. It never ceases to amaze me how many people don’t realize $2 bills are *real money* though. On more than one occasion I’ve had people flat out tell me that they aren’t real. However, no one can top the experience I had at a KFC several years ago. The young lady behind the counter was _extremely_ rude, telling me that I can’t use “Monopoly money” to pay for my food. I tried to explain to her that it was real, and if she didn’t want to take them as payment I’d gladly pay with a $20 bill. _However,_ she took it a step further and *refused* to give me my $2 bills back, and threatened to call the police on me for *FRAUD!* I asked for the manager, and _even he_ said that there isn’t any such thing as $2 bills; and now they *both* refused to give my money back to me, and I was told to leave and *never* come back. Finally, after a lengthy standoff, the manager finally called the police, telling them I was trying to pay for food with “fake” money. As soon as they called the police I sat my happy butt down and waited for the fun to begin. Both the cashier _and manager_ were taunting me, laughing while exclaiming how they couldn’t wait to see me carted off to jail in handcuffs. I just quietly sat there smiling. I’m sure you can picture their embarrassment when two police officers showed up, expecting to arrest some chic trying to commit fraud, only to finally be _convinced_ (yes, they had to be convinced, even from _two_ police officers) that $2 bills are in fact, *real money.*

Officially, the Series 1963A was the last issued red seal $2 note. That had been printed and issued til about the late 60's in limited quantities. It has the Fowler signature as Secretary of the Treasury, not Dillon's. Still worth keeping however.
@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary5 жыл бұрын
Correct. We started this video thinking we would mention the A-G series of 1928s, the A-C of 1953 as well as the 1963A. But it got tedious so we took it out. Still interesting that the 1963 series in total had such a small printing before the bill was officially removed from circulation.

You didn't cover the 1966 series United States note $100 bill. That was the very last United States note ever issued by the federal government. So what's the deal with that?
@eyehatefarcebook115 жыл бұрын
Roger Sheddy. Good point. Those are very scarce to rare. Here's the lowdown in my opinion. Most of those really didn't circulate because #1. The 1966 Series with the Granahan-Fowler signature combination was printed during a one month span in 1968 to fulfill the obligation of having a certain dollar amount of United States Notes in circulation. #2. Star notes in the 1966 series are quite rare, a very miniscule amount printed. #3. The 1966A with Elston-Kennedy signature combination printed in 1971; is going to be rare only because presumably most of those notes were destroyed in the 90's as they were remained in Treasury vaults marked as unissued.
@rogersheddy.84975 жыл бұрын

I looked into the wheresgeorge website and found right up top they had a whole bunch of the Red Seal 1966 series hundreds that they had marked and put back into circulation. The question is, are currency notes with anomalies of sorts have more value. For example, I have a (well, actually I have many) Red ink Two Dollar bills, from 1953 and 1963, fair condition, and a Blue Ink Ten Dollar bill, one of the $2 bill has a small Red smudge near top left side of Hamilton. Asif a droplet touched there and got rolled over. Would that make it more valuable than the other RED Two Dollar bills?
@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary2 жыл бұрын
The blue ink $10 is most likely a Silver Certificate, and the 1953 and 1963 $2s are as described in this video. They both do have more value. A red smudge could be a printing gaffe, which could make it valuable to some collectors, but since it's not a true "error", it could be disregarded as a bill with a stain. It really depends on the person who may be interested in it, but I don't think the smudge adds any value.

Thanks for the comment. We actually didn't forget about the 1966 $100 - we just chose to leave it out. In writing the script for this piece and including that bill, it was tough to piece together a chronology knowing we were describing what happened in 1928, but then having to mention a 1966 bill (which is when the $2 was discontinued). So for purposes of not making this video about a $2 bill overly confusing, we decided that the $100 bill was not a key component to tell this story.

I have a 1963 $2 bill that has an F4 in the upper left corner on the front and an F3 on the bottom right corner, also on the front. In another of your videos, it said these #'s should always match. Is this a mess up, giving this bill more value?
@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary3 жыл бұрын
The LETTERS always match. The numbers do not. The number on the lower right is the Plate Serial Number. The number top left is the position of where that bill was located on the sheet. Even I had to watch the video again to be sure, but that's how it works. The numbers themselves do not need to match. You do not have a bill with a mess up, but the fact that is is a 1963 with a red seal gives it a little more value.

Hello , I was given 2 , 1976 April 13 two dollar bills that was stamped at the post office the day he got them from bank. Are they worth anything ? Thanks for your videos
@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary Жыл бұрын
Yes, they are worth something. People took newly-released $2 bills (which came out on April 13, 1976) straight to the post office that day and had them stamped to confirm they were received as a first-day issue. This gives them more value. I don't know how much one would go for because it depends on the condition of the bill and some other factors, but there are plenty of collectors who seek those and would pay for them. I'm glancing at eBay as I write this and some go for $12-$13, there's a group of 7 in one auction that sold for $60, and one went for $25. So, not too much, but more than $2 for sure. Check with a local coin & currency dealer for a true value, which may involve having the bill professionally graded and then sealed in a protective case like an old baseball card. Thanks for watching my videos!

@@KenJackson_US Theoretically deficit spending is not a problem IF you first switch back to US NOTES. And, in fact, even with deficits could put an end to the federal income tax and use tariffs and deficit spending to fund government. This is how it was done throughout history. There was no Federal Income Tax for most of the history of the US. The key being not to run deficits so high that they cause high inflation.

@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary5 жыл бұрын
Honestly don't know much about $5s. We made a documentary feature film about the $2s ( amzn.to/2gpRKum ) and so a lot of research went there. Didn't have a need to learn much about any other denomination except when it affected the $2 bill. I imagine the red seal $5s are in fact worth just a little more than face value, unless the condition is pristine and perhaps if it has a star with the serial number.

@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary4 жыл бұрын
They will never be valuable. There were 400 million made, so they're not rare. They're not special either, even though they were released as a new item at the time of a nation's celebration. They're just regular currency, like any other denomination. People treat them differently for some reason. Time to stop doing that. Spend them like any other bill you have, unless you can find a sucker on eBay to pay you more than face value for them.

Great question, but it's impossible to answer the first part because no one knows until the Federal Reserve analyzes their data and determines what - if anything - their next print order should be. To answer the second part of the question... no, they don't.

Hi.. my dad collected money and stamps. Is it worth anything if the post office put a stamp on the top right bill in the year of 1976 on a 1976 bill with the post office official stamp on it that is dated 1976. I know that's a lot and a little question but I was trying to make it simple don't want to waste your time it is not worth nothing but $2. Thank you for your time
@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary5 жыл бұрын
We've addressed that and shown some in a few other videos on this channel. People had their bill postmarked to confirm it was received on the first day of issue - April 13, 1976. So many people did it, that the bills that have them aren;t worth a whole lot But there may be a collector who is looking for more of them, so it would have additional sale value to someone like that. Check eBay, as there are often a few there once in a while. Otherwise call a coin/currency shop in your area to see if they're interested. Failing all that, just pass it on to future generations of your family!

I was told that Ecuadorian banks would not accept US$2.00 as deposits. Several Ecuadorians told me that the US $2.00 was considered bad luck. In the future, no more $US2.00, but the Ecuadorians were thrilled whenever I paid with the Kennedy half dollar.

@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary5 жыл бұрын
We showed some of these in some other videos on the channel. Lots of people did what you described; they did so to confirm that the bill was received on the first day it came out - April 13, 1976. It would normally carry some more value except for the fact that there are so many of them out there. But you could probably get more than $2 for it, and the price could rise depending on the bill's condition. But it's tough to put a firm value on bills like those - it's worth what you can get someone to pay you for it.

This video mentions it... low demand and low usage led to the decision to stop making them. They were brought back in 76 in part because of the Bicentennial celebration, but also because it saves money in printing costs. You can twice as much money by printing twos instead of ones.
