****I remember a story from an old friend that used $2 notes in giving change in his Texas Inspection business. People loved it, but few rejected them as if cursed. At Christmas he gifted some to his grandchildren and one went complaining to their mother and stated, "Why did Papaw give us fake money?" Loved the story, but miss the old guy more. Some people spend their entire life to get so little at the end, and so few get sooo much with so little.

I have always been fascinated by $2 bills! Ever since my first niece was born in 1992 I started enclosing $2 bills, 50 Cent pieces, and $1 coins when they came out, in her birthday cards, as well as *every* child’s birthday card in my family & for friends children since then. I always encouraged the children and their parents to save some (if not all) of those notes and coins. (Don’t worry, they received “everyday” money they could spend, along with their gifts too. 😉 😊) Unfortunately, not a single person has _even one_ note _or coin_ that I’ve given them through the years. 🤷🏼♀️ *Funny story:* For the past 20 years, or so, whenever I get paid, I go to the bank and get as many $2 they have just to spend in my everyday life. It’s always fun to see the expression on people’s faces when you pay for something with $2 bills. It never ceases to amaze me how many people don’t realize $2 bills are *real money* though. On more than one occasion I’ve had people flat out tell me that they aren’t real. However, no one can top the experience I had at a KFC several years ago. The young lady behind the counter was _extremely_ rude, telling me that I can’t use “Monopoly money” to pay for my food. I tried to explain to her that it was real, and if she didn’t want to take them as payment I’d gladly pay with a $20 bill. _However,_ she took it a step further and *refused* to give me my $2 bills back, and threatened to call the police on me for *FRAUD!* I asked for the manager, and _even he_ said that there isn’t any such thing as $2 bills; and now they *both* refused to give my money back to me, and I was told to leave and *never* come back. Finally, after a lengthy standoff, the manager finally called the police, telling them I was trying to pay for food with “fake” money. As soon as they called the police I sat my happy butt down and waited for the fun to begin. Both the cashier _and manager_ were taunting me, laughing while exclaiming how they couldn’t wait to see me carted off to jail in handcuffs. I just quietly sat there smiling. I’m sure you can picture their embarrassment when two police officers showed up, expecting to arrest some chic trying to commit fraud, only to finally be _convinced_ (yes, they had to be convinced, even from _two_ police officers) that $2 bills are in fact, *real money.*

I’ve been lucky in the past asking bank tellers for 2 dollar bills. Really old ones came my way. I actually gave one away as a part of a tip because it’s condition was so bad it hurt to look at it. The bank should have destroyed it or sent back to federal reserve to destroy it. What I’d really like to find in my stocking in Christmas some day is a 5000 dollar bill. They’re way out of circulation which makes them so valuable. So I’d settle for a ten dollar coin. They can be worth a bunch of money depending on variables. Because the intrinsic value always stays put.

Correct. We started this video thinking we would mention the A-G series of 1928s, the A-C of 1953 as well as the 1963A. But it got tedious so we took it out. Still interesting that the 1963 series in total had such a small printing before the bill was officially removed from circulation.

@eyehatefarcebook115 жыл бұрын
Roger Sheddy. Good point. Those are very scarce to rare. Here's the lowdown in my opinion. Most of those really didn't circulate because #1. The 1966 Series with the Granahan-Fowler signature combination was printed during a one month span in 1968 to fulfill the obligation of having a certain dollar amount of United States Notes in circulation. #2. Star notes in the 1966 series are quite rare, a very miniscule amount printed. #3. The 1966A with Elston-Kennedy signature combination printed in 1971; is going to be rare only because presumably most of those notes were destroyed in the 90's as they were remained in Treasury vaults marked as unissued.

We know about the $100 note in 1966, but made the decision to leave it out because of the way we set up the story chronologically. When we had it in the piece, it seemed to be confusing to talk about what changed in 1928, but then mention a bill from 1966, only to go backwards and talk about the 1953 and 1963 twos and then be right back in '66. So, I certainly appreciate the comment, and you are correct about the 1966 hundred, but leaving it out in this case was called "editor's choice". :)

@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. We actually didn't forget about the 1966 $100 - we just chose to leave it out. In writing the script for this piece and including that bill, it was tough to piece together a chronology knowing we were describing what happened in 1928, but then having to mention a 1966 bill (which is when the $2 was discontinued). So for purposes of not making this video about a $2 bill overly confusing, we decided that the $100 bill was not a key component to tell this story.

Great question, but it's impossible to answer the first part because no one knows until the Federal Reserve analyzes their data and determines what - if anything - their next print order should be. To answer the second part of the question... no, they don't.

@@KenJackson_US Theoretically deficit spending is not a problem IF you first switch back to US NOTES. And, in fact, even with deficits could put an end to the federal income tax and use tariffs and deficit spending to fund government. This is how it was done throughout history. There was no Federal Income Tax for most of the history of the US. The key being not to run deficits so high that they cause high inflation.

The one with the three zeros may interest a collector, so you may want to reach out to a local coin & currency dealer. It would need to be in good shape though. Same for the red symbol, if it's anything more than a bill described in this video. You may have something worth a few bucks, but nothing to retire on.

The question is, are currency notes with anomalies of sorts have more value. For example, I have a (well, actually I have many) Red ink Two Dollar bills, from 1953 and 1963, fair condition, and a Blue Ink Ten Dollar bill, one of the $2 bill has a small Red smudge near top left side of Hamilton. Asif a droplet touched there and got rolled over. Would that make it more valuable than the other RED Two Dollar bills?
@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary2 жыл бұрын
The blue ink $10 is most likely a Silver Certificate, and the 1953 and 1963 $2s are as described in this video. They both do have more value. A red smudge could be a printing gaffe, which could make it valuable to some collectors, but since it's not a true "error", it could be disregarded as a bill with a stain. It really depends on the person who may be interested in it, but I don't think the smudge adds any value.

You missed another difference between the 1953 and 1963 red seal $2 bills. The 1953 series has the words "WILL PAY TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND" below Jefferson's portrait. The 1963 series does not.
@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary3 жыл бұрын
I did the Legal tender difference between the bills but intentionally left out the PAY BEARER notice because I felt it was bogging the video down some with extra minutiae. Editor's decision! But thanks for pointing it out - I appreciate an audience that doesn't let the small stuff go by.

How many 1953 red seal star notes were minted, also why is the star at the beginning of the serial number? (That’s my only bill with the star at the beginning of the serial number)

The reason for stars is explained in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6PNinenbZqmaM0 There are rarely stats for how many stars are printed because as you'll see, they're made just to fill in for errors that break the serial number sequence.

@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary2 жыл бұрын
If you ever wanted to sell it, you could probably get a few bucks above face value for it, even if it's well circulated. That's because 1928s aren;t always easy to come by. But you're doing the right thing saving it. I encourage people to get and spend $2 bills, but not if one or more that they have are passed down from family or otherwise have sentimental value. Those are keepers.

@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary5 жыл бұрын
We showed some of these in some other videos on the channel. Lots of people did what you described; they did so to confirm that the bill was received on the first day it came out - April 13, 1976. It would normally carry some more value except for the fact that there are so many of them out there. But you could probably get more than $2 for it, and the price could rise depending on the bill's condition. But it's tough to put a firm value on bills like those - it's worth what you can get someone to pay you for it.

Good question. I believe it is still the newest series but the most recent printing was in 2021 for the 2022 fiscal year. I don't know for sure if that printing remained part of the 2017 series though. If there was a new Treasurer or Secretary of the Treasury, then the bill would have a new series year, and perhaps we can expect to see a 2022 series year soon. All 1928 $2 bills have that verbiage on it. The 1953 and 1963 $2 red seals don't. When you say you haven't seen one like it, it's probably because you are looking at different years' bills. Find any other 1928 $2 bill and you will see the same words. It's just part of the bill - nothing special
