These Wera and Gedore Hex Bit Adaptors are all good but all different. The Wera impact rated bit holders are solid metal. The plastic collared Wera are smoother with deep locking. And the Gedoras are inexpensive.

The Gedore is made in Germany regular line (aka blue). They also have a red line one, if I recall it uses a spring (need to check one of my 172 piece sets). Stahlwille also uses a coil spring on the 1/4. Hazet, I need to check the one I have, but I recall it uses a full rather than split collar like the Gedore. In any event, I never was a fan of any of these things so I rarely use them. Instead, I have bit ratchets (Hazet, Stahlwille, some inexpensive ones) and 1/4 drive hex magnetic bit holders (ratcheting for which I like the Gedore best and not) or I just use full screwdrivers, although that is not storage space friendly.

i LOVEE all the wera rapidaptors! best bit holder ever!!! i wish wera made a ratcheting stubby screwdriver that had one connected... they make a reg sized ratcheting driver w one attached, but it doesnt have any bit storage innthe end... which isnt a deal breaker... but if those 2 options had those things added on to em(add a rapidaptor ((w power bit holding availability))to the ratcheting stubby, & add bit storage to the full sized ratcheting screwdriver) that'd make em each the perfect ratcheting stubby/ ratcheting driver

Craftsman has a 1/4" bit driver for a 1/4" ratchet. I bought one at Lowe's for $6 and, while it's not fancy or impact rated and it lacks a retention collar, it is low profile. Once you use one of these bit adapters there's no going back. I use them often and they're great!

That's most likely not chrome flaking off, it's paint. Lots of companies paint the recessed areas of sockets. I never have understood why so many bit holders position the ball bearing to engage the flat of the bit, instead of the of edges where the bit has the notches cut to be held onto. I have been trying to find a 1/4-1/4 bit holder with a lock ring that engages the notched cut outs all the way around the bit. This style leaves some vertical play with the bit but they hold pretty tight. I really like the Milwaukee impact driver extensions. They incorporate the lock ring, and a magnet. With this setup, the lock ring holds the bit very well, plus you have the magnet to pull the bit down eliminating and vertical play. They hold the bit good enough that you really don't need a locking style like the Wera. And this keeps the design low profile and slim. I just wish someone made a bit holder like this without it being an extension.

Unrelated: Next time you're on the Snappy Wagon, take a look at the new LN47ACF pliers. Basically the long nose version of the 47ACF we all know and love. It is one of the more elegantly aggressive set of tool implements I've ever seen. These are just out (not even on the website yet) and I think most of the trucks are introducing them at $45. Worth it.

Why would anyone choose the non-impact wera over the impact? The impact is cheaper, can be used with impact or non impact applications, and fully metal with no plastic. 🤔

I don't know specifically here but the general reasons for using a non-impact rated unit over one rated for impact is that, one, impact rated tools actually often intentionally transfer less torque through the use of engineered designs and softer metals.. also, non-impact rated tools can frequently be much thinner, which allows for greater access in tighter spots. A bad example is when someone has aftermarket wheels and you can't fit a thick impact socket over the lugs because the bore for the lug nut is too tight for a regular impact socket, only a chrome socket fits...

My issue with the wera is the loose fitting between on to the wratchet and the bit holder. There is just so much play on the 3/8 zyklop, waiting for the 1/4 to see if is the same or maybe just the wera bit adapter I got! Cheers really like the reviews and hearing some real world opinions

With the Gedore.. How about taking a dremel and making an indent in the side of the most used bits.. where the ball on the gedore sits.. that way you have a shorter bit overall.. which was the reason for me to switch from Wera to the Gedore.. and also weight.. service electrician.. I run around with my tools all day long

Theoretically, Wera will not hold Japanese (Vessel, etc) bits and the cheap design will. Because the indentation on the Japanese hex bits is higher than European.

Hello! thank you foryour videos, they are very good and helpfull. One question, I got some high impact bits which are verry short, I use them for fixing my bike. I got a hex adapter from an other company but the bits have a slight move (1 mm I would say). if I understand well this Wera adapter (plastic 3/8) accept the impact bits with "cero" movement?

If you are trying to turn the Gedore you can slide that collar right off and everything goes flying. Also they don't answer support request.

Kinda apples and oranges to compare these. I have a few of these adapters from Gedore and Facom (which are a bit more expensive then Gedore and have clips instead of a ball bearing) but i get these Gedore adapters for around 2 bucks, they are pretty cheap. The Wera adapters i pay 12/13 bucks (5/6x more expensive then Gedore) at the same supplier so its really not a comparison, they are nice tho but way too expensive for the handful of times i used them.

I bought some pipe cleaner wire brushes with a hex shank from eBay. Plastic, brass and steel in 5 sizes for each. Roughly 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25mm. I think they were under £15. They come with a bit driver handle which is decent though the wera adapter allows me to use an impact. The conjunction of the two tools together is a delight to use. The alternative before was to use a pick, screwdriver, cleaning wipes and lots of brake cleaner. It took a few minutes to scrape, spray and force a cloth through the sleeve to achieve a smooth bore. It probably takes 30 seconds per caliper and does a far better job. Particularly good for seized caliper pins which may have taken ages to remove all the corrosion and baked in dust. Do you happen to have any opinions on good cleaning brushes and tools? Cleaning seems to be a big part of thorough automotive work and can often be overlooked leading to further issues. Thanks Doc

Thanks for the comments. For brushes, I find that quality ones are similar but cheap ones fail in many ways. Oddly I just suggested to Project Farm to test wire brushes since like you I don’t have much to go on.

Is it possible to get the adaptors with a collet like the one with the extendable bayonet handle? It locks into all of my bits solidly, including speed bits!!! Looks the same as the socket adaptors but is not in terms of locking. How? Why?!
