Makes me wish Eternals and Black Widow took a similar approach in both length and approach. Edit: just to elaborate; I don’t like all of p4 but I don’t hate it either. A big thing you missed is that the beginning of the Marvel was a transition from horror/Sci-Fi to heroes. That's why some of the initial heroes and villains are monstrous: the Thing, the Hulk resembled their earlier monsters, and Ant-man's origin recycled a story that appeared in one of their earlier horror/Sci-Fi books. The first issue of the Fantastic Four had them fighting a monster similar to the monsters like Groot that appeared in regularly in Tales of Suspense or Tales to Astonish. Marvel eased into the Super-hero genre, it wasn't a sudden change.

The attention to detail, the apparent love and devotion of and to the old world horror genre Marvel introduced in the comics decades ago combined with that old Lugosi/Karloff-aesthetic, pacing, plot and design, score, everything, just perfect and I absolutely loved it all. And Man-Thing... man... he not only looked exactly as he should, they made sure his personality was there exactly as it is in the comics too. Pure awesomeness all the way. If anything it was too little of this gorgeous thing, I crave more, much much more of it. And(!) after having seen Thor! Love And Thunder recently and having to put up with the endless nonsense about She-Hulk (which has forced me to never see it, because I'm so goddamn tired of hearing about it) my expectations were rather low, even though this one features a genre I love, and then I was just blown away by this perfect little gem. Now I'm waiting for them to decide to make Tomb Of Dracula with the same dedication and love for the series and especially the aesthetics of the brilliant team of Gene Colan and Tom Palmer and that they'll make it as a series. That would make this little old beastie so happy indeed. Whatever is in store for us later on, please o please, continue with this awesomeness. I’m happy that werewolf wasn’t CGI, but a suit. Much better.

The most minor of critiques, because I agree this was awesome. I wish they kept Elsa a redhead for the aesthetic shift at the end. But that actress is perfect for the role, so I can’t really complain.

Hell yeah, best thing since Moon Knight. I hope we see more of these characters (and Moon Knight) again. All of them were great. I feel like the Marvel horrorverse can get us away from that formula you talked about. The black and white in Werewolf was SO great (even the film reel marks) and directors want to do it every so often and they are almost NEVER allowed to. It was so great they got it done in black and white. It just gives horror such a nice atmosphere. I didnt know ANY of these characters before (I was kind of aware they existed but that was it) and they were so good.

Werewolf by Night was easily my favorite thing in phase 4. I think Marvel should go the direction of making projects on Disney+ a hour maybe hour and a few min short films. And just keep the movies what they are.

When you read about the production of this special, it is certainly a lot more contained than the Disney+ mini-series. The casting was done in August 2021, and they filmed for 12 days from late March to mid-April 2022. That's a pretty quick turnaround compared to some of the other projects. This would be a good method of doing projects they don't think will have the legs to run for more than 5-6 40-minute episodes, such as the proposed Okoye series. If they do more of these specials in the future, what characters do you think they should introduce? Or reintroduce, as this might be another method of bringing the Netflix show characters back into the MCU instead of relying on cameos in films.

This is probably the biggest thing in phase 4 next to the multiverse concept. It opens so many avenues for stories. Jack Russell and Moonknight, Elsa and the bloodstone, man thing and Jack's relationship/ MCU origins plus a whole supernatural realm to pull from

I’m late watching it but I really enjoyed it. They also added an old Late Late Movie-style bumper to the beginning. It was awesome.

I agree on the one shot, Writers really struggle with low number of episode programming, inevitably there are to many filler episodes that dont do anything and reworking a typical there act narrative into what remains always feels a bit clunky

I loved the campy horror film vibes. And the actor playing Elsa nailed it.👌🏾

Yeah, we didn't need 9 episodes of She-Hulk. We needed 18 episodes. It's a fun mash up of her previous comic runs and is still finding its footing a little, but showed so much promise. Sure a few jokes didn't land and some of the effects could have been better, but it was a great change of pace - just like Werewolf By Night. That's the great thing about Marvel comics, there is room for all these characters and their unique takes in the overall world. The MCU should certainly be the same. I love pizza, but pizza every day, for every meal, gets old quick. For every Jen Walters I want a Jack Russel, for every Avengers I want a Ms Marvel. Marvel's diversity of characters, comics, and voices is its strength, not a weakness.
