EP7 peak of the peak. Knew it'd hit you guys hard. Still tearing up every time I see it. Some scenes made more subtle for TV but pretty explicit in the manga: 1. She didn't die chasing the car, she died jumping off the top of a building after that dance. 2. Her daughter likely also died after the kidnap. There's a scene of them walking together into the afterlife.

Theres a bit of unmentioned lore, with ep 7. The longer yokai walk the more they lose the memories of their humanity. People figured out by the time Silky saw Aira for the first time it's in the 20-30 year range, which is why she could only remember that she was looking for someone and made the 1+1 connection, thinking Aira was her daughter. The real kicker though is the opening scene, it wasn't just a visual flair, the hard cut shows that you're seeing through Silky's eyes - she was linking the memory and believed that Okarun and Momo were the ones who took her daughter away from her.

They've already established that she is skilled at knowing what people around her want to hear, it’s how she's cultivated her popularity and how she messed with Okarun. Turbo Granny also said only someone who Silky knew well could bring peace to her heart. Silky has been watching Aira for over ten years, so she is no stranger, and Aira knew from Silky's memories that her guilt over her daughter's fate (likely being killed by the yakuza debt collectors to sell her organs) could only be soothed by knowing her daughter loved her regardless and cherished the time they had no matter how it ended. Someone has probably already told you, but the manga also gave a bit more closure, showing Silky and her daughter walking into what is implied to be the afterlife together. And yeah, a human doesn't become a yokai from a normal death. Usually it requires some extreme tragedy, first to keep them from passing on, then to turn them from a normal lost spirit into a monster.

In all fairness, if you're going to introduce someone, you should A) Find out what genre they like. B) what do they enjoy within that genre. Character focused? Plot heavy? World building? Ect. C) Find an anime that fits that and ideally match the level of weird and/or cultural shock to the friend. It's easier said than done; especially if you yourself aren't explorative in anime genres, but it should help.

Oshi no ko as a first anime is so wild though. Like I remember watching through the first 20-30 mins of the first episode and being like, "oh this is a fetish show then? This shows got a lot buzz online so I guess I'll keep watching though." Then the rest of the show is great but it's not surprising that most a lot of people decided to not get past that. I think also most people end up recommending the big action shows or the critical darlings right out of the gate. But like you said mean you could try having people start on like a sports anime or a romance anime.

I still haven't recovered from episode 7. Such a whiplash from the rest of the show. In such a short time they present and reinforce gritty, raw, emotional motifs; really establish empathy in the audience (you are encouraged to really feel the daily grind, the exhaustion, the physical and emotional pain, the indignity, the hopelessness, etc.). Then they pay off/reflect upon those motifs with a return to a more stylized presentation (more typical of anime, but really earned) in the ethereal, dream-like dancing/suicide scene. An absolutely stunning, arresting, deeply affecting sequence. Unfortunately, it's implied the daughter died shortly after she was kidnapped by the loan-sharks/pimps (probably organ trafficking). More positively, the manga makes it clear (rather than implied) that the daughter and mother reunite in the afterlife.

Ep 1 was very bothersome to people. My son(adult son) and I watched it separately, and both agreed it's really good, he tried to tell some of his friends, but a lot refused b/c of that alien scene in ep 1. Kind of wish they had toned it down a bit, it'd be getting a far wider audience that the story itself deserves. I've watched so many times and I just realized that Turbo Granny said the ball awakens a humans psychic power, not gives it to them. That explains why Aira saw Silky's ghost when she was a child. banana organs are definitely speaking of reproductive organs. They said the same thing to Momo in ep 1, referring to impregnating her and then "removing her banana organs"

2:43:01 I loved this in the manga They actually show more in the manga In the anime it just looks like a plain clear area that is water that place was actually a building in the scene you can the light in the back round actually move as she jumped from the building you can see how she rotated when she jumped to her falling in the manga its more clear because they show her on a building And in the manga there is a extra scene they cut out silky actually reaching nirvana and reuniting with her child which confirms pretty much the guys that took her killed her as she was still a kid in the afterlife and they look their age in death and the guys probably took her organs as payment for her moms debt which isn’t surprising its the yakuza remember denji from chainsaw sold a few of his organs

man ughh i was terrified for y’alls reaction to episode 7 cuz i figured it’d hit y’all so much harder but i didn’t think it’d be THAT hard. although i do think there was full closure for the two. When aira asked for the two of them to be brought to a kinder world, it showed the two of them smiling together, reaching out to the stars. i totally think that referenced that the two of them reconnected and moved on together.
