I’m from the Gold Coast and our trams have ugly overhead electrical cables whereas the light rail in Kaohsiung uses supercapacitor banks which negates the need for overhead lines.
@Tezastar7 ай бұрын
Oh, same as Sydney's one, but nevertheless it's all from the same company, CAF and Alstom I believe. And they looks pretty similar apart from the overhead cables.
@tomtsai7 ай бұрын
I wish GC had future proofed and gone with the new tech. Makes such a difference IMO, the cables are such an eyesore. 😅
@WesDaviestravel7 ай бұрын
Ah very good to know thanks! Indeed it’s Alstom who makes the trains. I wonder if they can retrofit the Gold Coast trains with the new superconductors?
@Tezastar7 ай бұрын
@@WesDaviestravel Not sure about retrofitting, however there is a solution to catenary-free light rail operation, sydney has a section that is catenary-free by using third rail on the ground to supply power, the segment goes live only when the light rail passing over.
@winstonh21657 ай бұрын
catenary-free looks nice, but the design of the carriage is just mediocre, and considering the cost of the whole thing is not really worthwhile
I'm from Taipei, and I'm delighted to see that Kaohsiung has a circular railway line. The changes in Kaohsiung over the past few years have been quite astonishing, impressing visitors from the northern part of Taiwan. Let's move forward, Kaohsiung!

I’m lucky to have been living in Kaohsiung during the last few years and I can really see it’s becoming a world class city! Very impressed!
Yes, I am proud of my city. At the same time I am one of the engineers of the light rail construction. I am happy to contribute my efforts to my city.

That’s what I exactly did last week. Hop on the LRT and circled around the Kaohsiung city and got amazed by the scenes that I seldom pay attention to when riding a scooter.
Wow, that’s a lovely ride!🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤ This city has changed so much in a fantastic way since my last visit! ❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍

Good to hear the finished the full circle. I do like Kaohsiung's LRT since I tend to stay in the Pier2 area when in town, and you can hop on the LRT to get to Monkey mountain / Shoushan, Lover's Pier, the Kaohsiung Expo and the Fine Arts Museum. Makes the city way more convenient for tourists.

I am the son-in-law of Kaohsiung. I am glad that you love this beautiful city as much as I do!
I may be going to Taiwan this December from Canada, and I'm curious to ride this LRT. Gaoxiong's looks really good and clean and spacious! I look forward to possibly riding it. Love trains! We had a new LRT built in Ottawa. where I live, before the pandemic, and... it's be fraught with so many problems that despite it being new it doesn't work well (in any weather). and has been shut down multiple times for months and even crashed/ derailed... Also, went way over budget and took/ is taking much longer than it should.

@@WesDaviestravel I do follow the YT vlog for most of you guys( Allen /元元/Lukas etc) for years . Prozzie and you were more free on YT compared to others (Lukas is the most aggressive one). Maybe it’s because you two come from the 2nd larger country in the world(you knot what I mean). Prozzie becomes pretty positive in close-in months, so his subscribers obviously jumping up. Perhaps you could pay a Little more effort too. Guess what, your pronunciation is the best clear one to learn EN listening. I saw many same messages during the past period. "One feature I really like is the doors don't open automatically". I still don't know why there's a need for a button to open the doors. It's not like you're outside a high traffic area where automatic door sensor will be trigger by pedestrians. it is a train, it gets to a stop, the doors have to be opened to let people off.
