Mom of 3 here: I try my best to remember that they’re building a relationship with whoever is with them during those experiences, even if it isn’t me Sometimes I’m sad it isn’t me. As they get older it seems I’m missing out on more and more (my oldest just turned 10 today 🤯). But now that they can talk I LOVE hearing them retell their experiences and I love hearing about it from who they were with (a family member, friend, teacher, etc). I encourage you to just find a way to reframe “missing an experience” in your mind to something positive about it instead. “I wish I could be there but they’re going to really enjoy having this moment with grandpa” etc. and then hype it up to them later. “I didn’t get to see it. But you got to show grandpa? Omg!! Did you LOVE IT! How cool you two got to do that!” It definitely takes practice.

As someone Deaf you're totally right! Sign Names are created for people by someone who is D/HH. You can't create your own sign name even if you're D/HH yourself, and having one is generally seen as a sign of acceptance, inclusion, and honor in the community. They're usually developed based on the personality or other identifying traits of an individual so it makes sense that he's waiting for the babies to grow up a little more.

@@Tzipordeah Being Deaf culturally actually is not always defined by not being able to hear (that's why the Deaf community differentiates itself from being "deaf" with a lowercase d). If someone is noverbal but primarily uses ASL and is politically/socially integrated with the D/HH community, they would still be accepted and considered part of the community and I can't see why they wouldn't be able to create name signs.

Coming from a big family (11 kids) I think it's awesome that you're wanting to be apart of your kids lives so much. I think my mom opted to check out - she struggled with a lot of physical and mental illnesses so no shame to her, I'm sure she did her best - so I think just having a parent wanting to be so involved with their kids experiences is in itself so impactful. Long story short, you're doing amazing and I love watching you interact with your kids in such an involved way!

@@zairabandy8695 A lot of people from different cultures, backgrounds, religions, or eras are/were pressured into having large families. Also, this particular mother may have developed issues later after having children.

@@zairabandy8695 This is a fair question and one I've spent a lot of time considering myself. I remember her saying she had a bicycle accident when she was little and she thought it would keep her from having kids. She said she promised God that she would have all the kids he would give her. I don't fully believe this since my conception story involves an intentionally punctured condom (my dad's doing) so I know there was a time early on where she was trying not to have kids. I think it made her feel good about herself. I feel like after she was about 5 kids in she started tying her identity to having lots of kids and got somewhat dependent on the response /praise she got when she would tell people how many kids she had. I remember hearing comments like "Wow you're super woman!" and "I don't know how you do it" and I'd think "Well, it's because we take care of ourselves and the little kids". So anyway, that's just what I think but I don't know and even with all the therapy, I don't think I'll ever fully understand.
@genthespacewitch

Colleen, as a neurodivergent person myself (ADD, anxiety, ASD) I think your issue regarding spending time with your kids may be a brain thing, possibly anxiety. Obviously it's impossible to pay 100% attention to all your kids at once and no one's expecting you to do that. I think you're putting this guilt on yourself, or it's coming from a place of unrealistic expectations. Anxiety definitely makes my brain exhausted too, which is what made me think of this. This is something I'd discuss with your therapist. I'm sure there's a way you can train your brain to not worry so much.

Holy safety hazards! You need to take down the magnet board ASAP. The rounded coin shape can completely occlude their airway, and it is unlikely you’d be able to remove it. If they swallow them, the magnets can attract through the intestinal wall tearing a hole and releasing waste into the abdominal cavity. Few survive.

I had a lot of guilt for not being able to give the same amount of attention to my first anymore but over time I'm learning to just realize my attention will never be equally split. All we can do it our best and release the expectation that we have to do it all. We aren't in control of these experiences so maybe just being graceful with yourself for trying to be more than you can be and showing up with everything you've got is enough. You're doing a fabulous job mama. Your kiddos know your love is big enough to hold space for them all equally 💘

Mom of 3 kids (4,2, and 10months). I had to really lower my expectations. I always wanted the perfect day at the playground or the insta worthy trip to the zoo. That’s not real life. Kids cry, drinks spill, sometimes you get hot and sweaty, and that’s okay. Once I started going into things with zero expectations I truly started enjoying it! You’re not going to see every giggle or every twinkle in their eye, but you are there, you are active in their lives, and to them, that’s what matters. The thing I noticed during that food scene in castaway was that it was a buffet of crab legs and seafood on the table in his room & that's all he had to eat on the island. Besides the coconuts.

Tortilla talk question: I am an l&d nurse and today I had my 1st set of mixed sex twins! I’ve only ever had 2 girls or 2 boys. The couple asked for any advice. Could you share any advice on for new twin parents that I may be able to share with my next set of multiples? Thank you for sharing your journey and life with us, I’ve been watching you for years and your experience with delivering Flynn and then the twins further cemented why I chose my career. There is nothing like helping someone through the happiest or sometimes hardest day of their lives. When ever I have urgent or emergent c-sections, I think about you and your traumatic experience. You helped my understand how it might feel from the patients point of view. Thank you for being a part of my daily routine! ❤

Don't be so hard on yourself Colleen, your a great mom ❤ Balancing with multiple kids is tough, exactly as you put it, you can't focus on all 3. But you always seem to do a great job giving each of them individual attention, love, and make wonderful memories together. To me, as a mom of 3, that's what's most important at the end of the day. I want my kids to know that I'm there for them and love them always and all ways.. From one mama to another, we're doing the best we can mama with what we have ❤🤗

I’m not a mother of 3 I am a sister of three… but I want you to know that the effort you put in, just the taking time to spend a day with them while the others are at your moms makes a difference. You don’t need to be there every second of the day, but they know you are there. I never really had my parents around it was just my older sisters taking care of me but when that one time every now and then my parent would just do one simple thing for me it meant the world. You are doing fabulous and try not to feel bad if you miss things in their life, there will be other things to witness

I’m a mom of 6 currently. I’m a foster momma. Anyways, that most rewarding experience is watching these kiddos get to experience things for the first time. I’ll admit it’s hard to focus on each individual kiddo at the same time and I feel as if I miss certain things. But I’ve come to the realization that I cannot be Wonder Woman, and see all and do all, even though I’d love too. So I just soak in each thing, with each kiddo to the best of my ability. I try to remain present in each activity, I try to make one on one time to make sure my focus can be on each individual kiddo at some point. But I think a lot of it has to come with the reality of I’m going to miss things. But I also get to experience so much joy being surrounded by such joyous kiddos. They hardly notice I’m not 100% focused on them individually. They’re just super thrilled to get to see and do things. It helps having a village like you do! You’re a rockstar momma, a true inspiration to my parenting!

Colleen, I think you need to remember the saying “it takes a village”. I know you do have a great village behind you helping you and Erik with everything they can. But I want you to realize that saying came from somewhere and has been used so often because it’s true. There’s no way one person can be there for every moment, good or bad. That’s why we build our village, our community. As long as you are raising your children with love, everything will be okay.

Those magnets are WAY TOO SMALL for the twins to play with. That’s a huge choking hazard even if they are being supervised, it only takes a second for hem to put that in their mouth. Not only is it a choking hazard but if they do swallow it, it can cause major issues in the intestines which would require surgery. I’m honestly dumbfounded that you don’t realize this.

Mom of three here! And yeah it's really hard to actually absorb what's going on and "enjoy" it. It's enjoyable of course but you're more stressed than anything because you want to keep an eye on all three kids and you want all of them to have a fun experience with you all at the same time and it's not realistic. It's soo hard! And here I am pregnant with #4 lol.

as a mom.of 3 when my kiddos were younger, I would have a diaper bag in the van that had all the things I would need anytime we were heading out, clothes diapers, suntan lotion ect. When we came home.i would.replenish items used and place back in the van, so when leaving all.i had to think about snacks and drinks..
