Great video. I have had a Tidal 55 for two years, it started to make a very loud clicking noise, so I replaced the motor. Still had the noise the next day. I think the tip you mentioned about removing the lower blue dial will do the trick. I didn't even know that thing was there- it was dialed down to minimal water flow. I removed it, and am trying the filter again. So far so good.

Just got into the hobby and been doing a bunch of research. I just purchased an Aquaclear 30 but looking to get a Seachem 55 because of the auto restart function as my area does experience more than the odd power cut and I may not be home. Thanks for your review and mod suggestions, will definitely do that. Tank size is about 33 gallons and I am still cycling it fresh. Adding substrate and decorations before introducing livestock :) Your tank is very clean and I like the big rock feature.

I just bought one, I've been using ac 110 ,but they break so easy, I found that I have a lot of parts from other broken one's and decided to put a stop to it, the tidal seems really good, I am using the heater holder and it's the only thing that holds the heater flawlessly, I belti will add a polishing pad or maybe a generic cartridge for additional filtration

I believe the knob you took off is for the water skimmer not the actual intake tube. The blue knob gear on top is the flow rate. Ive been doing some research on hobs I think I'm going to go with the tidal
@WesleyAllenNC
@WesleyAllenNC Жыл бұрын
You may be right. I also wound up taking off my little “skimmer screen” since this video. I really like these Tidals, I had a 35 version previously. Their easy to clean and look pretty slick too..
@apaulmcdonough2170
@apaulmcdonough2170 8 ай бұрын
The Wheel that was removed only Controls the Intake TUBE. There is a fulltime grill opening on the Bottom of the cover. The "Surface Skimmer" is actually the Primary Intake. The upper Wheel is the overall Flow Rate Adjustment. I slow my Tidals to their Minimum when I feed, and then return them to Full Rate of Flow a few minutes later. This reduces Food being sucked up by the Tidals.

only thing with putitng that sponge where u took out the adjustment knob i tired that and it will make the motor work harder and create less flow so i took the sponge back out to insure the life of the motor and way more flow.

Hello! Can i use a tidal 55 for a 15 gallon? Because the tidal 35 does not have much features or the intake pipe, so i really would prefer the 55, but it also might be a bit overkill. What do you think? Does smaller tanks matter?
@WesleyAllenNC

@apaulmcdonough2170
@apaulmcdonough2170 8 ай бұрын
The Tank water level has to up to the Bottom of the Front Grill. The "Surface Skimmer" is actually the Primary Intake for the filter, so the Water has to be within about 3 inches from the Top of the Tank.

@WesleyAllenNC
@WesleyAllenNC Жыл бұрын
I'm honestly not sure of the exact flow rate other than 250gph is the MAX flow rate. Their website doesn't specify minimums.. I have a 55 on a 37 high and it's set to full speed and isn't too much for the tank. Just right I would say and I also have minnows..

I like to fill my tanks past the rim to avoid the calcium buildup so would I need to use something to lift that up like you did with the wood?
@WesleyAllenNC
@WesleyAllenNC Жыл бұрын
I wound up removing the wood piece as I found it unnecessary in the long run. I also like my tank mostly filled.. This filter allows you to do that no problem, but there’s a chance you might hear a slight trickle-type sound when it’s really full without a small shim of some sort like I had in the video..

@rebeccaloutfi1936
@rebeccaloutfi1936 Жыл бұрын
I have a question- I’m running two 55 tidal in my 60g and it has a lot of matrix in each one. So much so that there’s an overflow at the top instead of it going through the matrix. Should I minimize and take some of it out or will that crash my cycle? I have the sponge, two bags and filter floss on top- tidal running full capacity and it’s not filtering the way I’d think it should for 2 tidals on a 60g
@WesleyAllenNC
@WesleyAllenNC Жыл бұрын
Did you add extra matrix? I’d look to reduce some of the add-in floss or matrix if it’s overflowing the filter.. if your nervous you could always bag up any extra matrix and sink it somewhere in the aquarium while your sorting out the overflow issue..
@rebeccaloutfi1936
@rebeccaloutfi1936 Жыл бұрын
@@WesleyAllenNCoh I added extra matrix like the rocks (I’m new at this) so I got new matrix for each filter and divided it up and put them in each filter. It’s like a dam is the best way to describe it when it comes out. It actually comes out the filtration over the rocks (most of it) and not through it. I then put filter floss on top of those rocks to catch the excess. I feel honestly it’s too much and I probably overdid it but I don’t understand where my Beneficial bacteria is being held, is it just in that little sponge that’s it’s being held in. If so… I am definitely overdoing it. Like it’s packed.
@WesleyAllenNC
@WesleyAllenNC Жыл бұрын
@@rebeccaloutfi1936 that’s what it is, just a little too much matrix.. it’s actually a porous stone that provides a good home for beneficial bacteria.. you should have a coarse sponge on bottom, a mesh bag of bio media (seachems version is called matrix), and then filter floss OR some sort of fine filter pad or at the top (but it’s not required)

I just bought a Tidal 35 for my new 20 gallon tall, but I can’t say just yet what’s the better option (I haven’t set it up yet). I've had a fluval c3 for 3 months now and it's annoying. The plastic handle for the bio media chamber has snapped on me. More importantly, every time I turn off the filter to feed brine shrimp or fry food, it doesn't want to turn back on. Sometimes, even when I fill it with water, it doesn't want to work until I tap or fiddle with it. Looking forward to trying the tidal for the auto priming feature alone.

@Tai Nguyen well I tried the tidal 35 before the fluval C, and the tidal would get backed up, clogged, and start to create bypass. For what reason I'm not sure, because the media was pretty clean. I'm talking just after 3 days. It was a constant problem.
@1LifeAdvs
@1LifeAdvs Жыл бұрын
@@jmsadms the 55 and up is really good. And all brands have their little issues. For the tidals I use some electrical tape to seal the surface skimmer so it doesn't suck in debris and gets clogged up. As for media space it is so spacious you can use whatever combination you want. Tidals are really great for sub 100 gl tanks
