I'm an event shooter. I got a pair of V1s (Flashpoint Zoom Li-on X), and the thing I'm really loving - something I never imagined or heard mentioned - is the ability to spin the bounce card around the round head, such that it's bouncing light forward, left, right, or rearward. When I've got the white dome on, the bounce card can also serve to block light from going forward (handy when there's a shiny surface behind my subject).

I liked it but I didn't see the V860-3 mentioned. I presume menus are the same but the square vs round head must have some differences surely?
@WesPerry6 ай бұрын
Yeah the interface is exactly the same. It was sitting on the floor beside me and I just never picked it up 😂 And the square vs round head and location of the LED light are the only significant differences between it and the V1

Excellent video. Just about to try some flash shoots. Not used a flash for 20 years so this was super educational. I just hope the V1 Pro works well with my A7rv.

Im debating what to get between the V1 and the V860iii. My main use for this is for event decor photography, corporiate headshots, and event photography. So far, I know the major difference between the 2 is the shape of the head and the zoom range. Between these 2, if you had to start over with flash photography, knowing what you know now, which would you pick and why?

Great video! Thank you! I tried to trigger the flash offcamera but the small flash, even though it's activated, doesn't fire. It only fires when it's on camera... Do you have the same problem?

Hi, thank you fot the walkthrough, extremaly helpful. The other day I was watching one of your videos and you were recommending your favourite mount for these flashes on a lightstand (+ with an umbrela hole). I cannot find what specific mount/arm was that. could you point me in the right direction?

Can you do a follow up on the godox v1 vs westcott fj 80

Thinking about it. The FJ80ii is $540 where I live, though, so it’s unlikely to return my investment lol

No one seems to know the answer to this critical question I have, as no one has covered it on any Google or KZbin search, and as such, you’re the only one I’ve seen who’s actually covered both flashes in the same video, and so, I ask: If both flashes were free of charge (money/price not being a factor in the equation), which is better - the V860 III or the V1 Pro (and if I’m being particularly ambitious in my line of questioning, why - is it better, that is)? The V1 Pro doesn’t seem to have a built-in diffuser like the V860 III (that configurable glass panel at the top of the flash that redirects light), and also isn’t as piercingly bright which can help cover longer distances, but has a more evenly spread out end result, in its defence, for example. I would forever be indebted to you if you could help me out with your sagely pearls of wisdom, friend.

They have different ups and downs. I would say the ups of the V1 don’t really justify its price increase, though. I very regularly use the magnetic modifiers on my V1: barn doors, colour gels, etc I used to do such things with the V860ii/iii as well! But it’s so much easier on the V1. I will also often (using these modifiers) use it as a spot for dramatic shots, which is very difficult to achieve a good shape with the classic square head design. I do miss the size of the V860iii in my bag, though. That round head does take up a lot more space.

@@WesPerry: Words don’t even come close to articulating my appreciation and high praise for your impossibly prompt and comprehensive response! I truly cannot thank you nearly enough! I suppose the accidental oversight of my question was, brushing all accessories and modifiers by the wayside and just taking the products at face value, which would you say is objectively better? Again, I cannot thank you emphatically enough for being so unthinkably genuine and professional about this, right from the get-go, as it goes an insurmountably long way! You’ve just gained a new subscriber!
@WesPerry5 ай бұрын
@foolofaguyinlove I wouldn’t say either is “better”, they’re basically the same flash with varying bells and whistles (many don’t like the led placement on the V860iii, while others prefer it, etc). And without the additional attachments the V1 loses much of its character.
@foolofaguyinlove5 ай бұрын
@@WesPerry: Duly noted! Finally, just to be clear, you ARE referring to the V1 Pro when you say “V1”, yes? Sorry - just making sure I’m not reading your responses inaccurately is all. The V1 Pro seems to be substantially more expensive than the V860 III, and so, I was looking for a method to the madness/rhyme and/or reason for that absurd leap in cost, if all else, specification-wise, was otherwise nearly the same, I suppose.
@WesPerry5 ай бұрын
@foolofaguyinlove nope, I was only referring to the V1 Pro has entirely different internal components that result in it having much greater resistance to overheating, better ttl, and better HSS. It Looks very similar to the V1 on the outside, but it’s rather different on the inside. As such it Is a better flash than both the V1 and the V860iii

I have the V1 pro, but my menu has one more section called zoom, and I have not been able to figure out what the labels on it mean, but it seems to limit the zoom to very wide-angles or to allow it to zoom to very narrow angles. I have never seen this mentioned or even show up in the videos on this. What I do not understand is that since there has never been a firmware update to this flash, why do I have an extra menu section?
@WesPerry3 ай бұрын
is this in the main options menu?

Great video Wes. Can you please tell me if, when the back screen is locked, it is possible to switch between TTL & manual on the new side switch. I have several of the original V1 and find the lock is essential to stop my fat head switching modes accidentally but is a nuisance when I quickly want to switch between the two main modes (does anyone actually use the bloody repeat mode - wish they would remove it ha ha).
@WesPerry6 ай бұрын
I had to pull one out to check: the lock mode doesn’t affect the function of the hard TTL/M switch

Pretty much never haha But it depends on one’s style and circumstance. Doesn’t really suit my personal style, but direct flash is now back in style so can be useful for many.
