I know its so weird to fish the river without crowds. Thats one huge drawback in the peak season. I mean its a big river and even when crowded you can find water, but mentally nice to have some solitude. I usually fish above there up to deposit.

Man , I’m so happy for you that you got into some nice fish ! I know the effort and commitment it takes to get on the water in the dead of winter! Good job grinding it out !! I too am a big follower of Scott , and have learned so much by just following his videos!! Nice browns. I catch browns just like that one on a tributary to the main stem of the Delaware a ways downstream from here. Not a heavily fished stream. Tough wading, lot of hiking, steep embankments and water releases. But it’s infested with wild monster browns, rainbows and Brookies.

It's amazing Jon, you fished the same exact spots my brother, my buddy and I fished last Halloween weekend. The CFM was 2100 then, not 900 so we had a more difficult time here. My Buddy caught one brown on a streamer and lost a Tank same place you caught your big Brown! He waded to the Island. Great Video. Nice reference to PA Woods and water that I follow too!

Wow!!! What an awesome outing, from the big browns to the snow on the ground, absolutely phenomenal video! what custom rod is that? great vid man! Also, where, approximately, were you fishing? I have been trying to find spots on the river but I have no clue in what area to start
@deaddriftoutdoors29404 жыл бұрын
So I was fishing on the West Branch at the "upper game lands". Its right where the river begins as border between NY and PA. South of Deposit and north of Hancock. Hope that helps I built rod from a blank about 20+ yrs ago and don't actually remember the make. Its a slow full flex rod which I tend to prefer. Thanks for watching glad you enjoyed!

Nice video but that first fish you had his gills out of the water for a full 45 seconds. Hard to watch him suffocate like that.
@deaddriftoutdoors29402 жыл бұрын
Yes I probably had him out a little long you're right. But honestly I worked for Fish and Wildlife in VT for several years and DEC in NY in the Fisheries dept and have done countless electrofishing/netting studies where we would have fish out for far longer for weight/length/scale analysis/Pit tagging and mortality was virtually zero (evidenced with recovery of pit tagged/tracked fish). In the winter dissolved oxygen levels are very high and although this fish was likely stressed from the fight I can say with nearly 100% confidence that he did fine. You would be surprised at how tough trout are. I do appreciate your comment though and I will honestly try harder in the future to handle fish with care!
@deaddriftoutdoors29402 жыл бұрын
I did some quick research and found one study that looked at the effects of simulated C and R on cutthroat and the paper concluded "No effect of angling itself or of angling and air exposure was observed on short-term (≤60 d posttreatment) or long-term (>1 year posttreatment) survival of adults with one exception " This was evaluated with 0/30s/60s air exposure over several years. One year there was slight increased mortality for fish exposed for 60s but other years no difference noted.
