Many Moons ago I used to hand around there the Flats were badly design the Living Room was down stairs bedroom were upstairs a few of my friends lived there there are a tiny park back of the flats the boxing club near by. The Library was a mobile van you bring the memories back buddy. Your are right about your Nan's home those flats are brilliant some really nice people live in them and loads of Secuirty There been many murders on that estate many to say the least. I can't even walk up it or down it as my health knackered now., having Electric cars in flats they mention charging area which the Council will install and have to pay. Maybe some of use could do a very Tiny walk with you I know we all have knowledge.

It was Marshall House that got demolished not Kennedy House (Kennedy is now Camberley). In the trees behind those flats in Daisy Drive in the 60s/early 70s there was an alleyway connecting Charlemont Avenue to Beaconview Road and a tennis courts right behind those flats, the alleyway is no longer there but those old tennis courts are actually still there complete with the original chain link fencing round them all really overgrown now but otherwise just as they were. The road to the right of Beaconview where the railway bridge is was once a continuation of Bustleholme Lane which led to the old Bustleholme Mill next to the canal and those mill buildings were knocked down about 1970 to make way for the building of the motorway, i watched the motorway being built at the time. By the Navigation pub there was also a little wooden shed like shop. I could go on but will leave it there for now.

Thanks for the correction CH i was aware that it was Marshall that was demolished but for some odd reason I got them mixed up and failed to spot the error. Thanks for the other info, much appreciated

Just to add, at the top of Beaconview Road actually right on the corner of Charlemont Road/Hollyhedge Road near the church there was a corner shop in the 60s, the shop was a bungalow owned by a MR. Hill.

Hi Phil enjoyed the walk down Beacon view Road I loved drinking in the Spinney in the early seventys. When you was at the cannal bridge on the old Walsall Road if you walked up the road towards Stone Cross I remember Sandhills Garage and the sand and gravel pit on the left hand side of the Walsall Road all the best Paul

I think you may have your bearings wrong Phil re the Navigation pub. I remember it in the early 60s from my teenage years and I thought it was about 100 yards on the right of the road as you pass under the canal aqueduct, looking towards Walsall. This seems to be borne out by the photographs on the West Bromwich Memories KZbin pages. Also, I thought the tanker explosion happened in Roberts Road.
@awalkwithphil
@awalkwithphil 14 күн бұрын
Roberts Road definitely extended much further than it did now so the explosion would have been almost on the corner of Roberts Road, I do find it rather difficult to pinpoint exactly these days Geoff, mostly I give an approximation

My boyhood estate is a complete mess (like all the others). Oh Phil by the way, it was Marshall house and the library that were demolished to make way for more landlord accommodation. I know Marshall, Kennedy and Roosevelt were ugly but they housed hundreds of Council tenants. Just like the maisonettes used to which have been replaced by those beech huts.
