My bro. Nice to see a high dollar rod with an affordable but quality reel. See most people with a $400 reel on an $80 rod. The rod is the main ingredient always.

I use a Lamiglas 8’6” 6-12# spinning rod. Typically used for light steelhead fishing. It works great.

nice. I think it's called a "duncan knot". Try 20 # dacron fly backing for your stopper knot.

I caught my biggest bass on a float and fly it was a 12 pounder and it came on rise bite and I thought it was a catfish and then I saw it and it was a behemoth and landed it on 6 pound test and 10 pound braid

@@BassUnion that’s why I use it all the time it is so effective like a jigging rap for spots that are stuck to the bottom and won’t eat it is perfect I almost won a tournament with one but the guy who won caught a 7.3 on a glide bait and he actually snagged it on the head but I will say that roping a jigging rap will get you throttled and hard

Only problem i have is sizing bobber to fly using trial and error. Is there a way to size your bobber to your fly without guessing?

Thanks for the Nice video! I’m down here in San Diego I don’t know if the water gets cold enough here in winter for the original purpose of the float and fly, yet I’ve been checking out the float and fly some years ago the old school way with the long rods, three-way swivels and all that stuff but you’re technique makes a whole lot of sense, then the traditional float n fly method. Do you think this would be good for even warmer waters like suspending the jig right above the grass? I could see this as a killer rig for spotted bay bass just keeping that jig suspended right over the top of the eelgrass in the bay.

Thanks for your video. What’s the name of the white fly that you use? Do you tie them yourself. If so would you describe the materials?
@Unwrenched3 жыл бұрын
Joe, could you substitute the nylon knot for a bobber stopper? Also, when you tie that Alberto knot, when you get to the end and run the line back through the loop go through an additional two times.
@BassUnion3 жыл бұрын
You could but you’ll be limited to the depth you can run it. Getting that rubber bobber stop in your bail can be troublesome.

What weight are the flies? I tried this setup with a 1/16 oz fly and windy conditions and couldn’t get it to work hardly at all. Was thinking a heavier fly would solve my problem but 1/16 was all I had.

West coast float n fly???????? Wasn't float n fly born on Dale hollow lake in kentucky????? Lost on that 1 bro! And the float knot is surgeons knot. Thanks though bro for showing the "Kentucky float n fly"!!!!!

They use fixed bobbers with 9-12 foot rods and a set depth. We use slip bobbers and short 7.5-8 foot rods and fish any depth 👍 The knot I use is the uni to uni look it up 👍
