I participated in a trip across Idaho to validate a new route that is due to be published by next year. After a four day drive, I would spend a night in the Alvord Desert in Oregon, then meet up with the rest of the crew in Jordan Valley, Oregon. From there we'd drive eight days across Idaho to Alpine, Wyoming. It was nearly 600 miles and about 95% on dirt and gravel roads. During the drive we’d see pioneer homesteads and geological wonders, and experience challenging travel and weather conditions. As is usual for my overlanding trips, I would make the drive out a small part of the adventure by taking secondary highways … “Blue Highways” as William Least Heat Moon would call them in his book of the same name. A book that every overlander would do well to read. During my travel out, I’d spend one night with my friends Mike and Pattie in Centennial, Colorado. Day 3 of the trip begins at a campsite near Buncel Place homestead and continues to one within the Snake River Canyon near Bliss.
