I stayed at the Milarrochy Bay Campsite in Oct 2017 and it was great. The ground is also really hard and rocky but the facilities and staff are great. It's a welcome site after a 21 mile day with Conic Hill near the end. I camped on the small grass patch near the inversnaid Hotel which wasn't too bad but if you head about a mile past the Inversnaid Hotel there is a great looking clearing for a wild camp.

You sir are absolutely the man. I was considering buying the Enan because I didn't trust any dyneema single wall will survive Scotland but then I started finding people using it. Now I'm considering it. It's very expensive and not without shortcomings but damnit that weight is tasty. Cheers.

Thanks bud! Oh yeah, for sure! I hiked the length of Scotland and used DCF the whole way. The last part was in winter too! Have you seen my Zpacks Duplex wind and rain test vid? kzbin.info/www/bejne/gX7GXmOgpdiXqJo I used my Zpacks Duplex for everything but winter where I used my MLD Duomid. I done a side by side review of both here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gX7GXmOgpdiXqJo Hope that helps! 🐾👍

Sallochy camp site was decent but the wind off the loch was horrendous, could hear it moving across the loch before it got to you, also make sure your phone is not in your back pocket if you use the toilet facilities, it’s a hole in the ground and they don’t appreciate having to go underground to retrieve it for you if you drop it in there

I'm considering doing the whw in September. Do you think it's an ok time? I was watching someone else's videos and he kept saying there aren't many decent wild camping spots along the way but watching your videos it seems like there's enough. Any idea where I can find people's grid references or markings of good pitching areas?

Aye, Septemeber is fine. Less midges too. The weather might be a bit bleak with more rain, the temperatures starting to lower, shorter days but nothing crazy. Just keep your eye on the weather trends approaching your planned dates and you'll be fine. Worst you'll get maybe is rain and wind. The snow doesn't come until later in the year. But then it's Scotland: you might have a full week of great weather too! I think there's enough. Was he perhaps hammock camping or something like that? If you get a bit creative I would say there are plenty of places to wild camp personally. Are you on walkhighlands.com? It's a brilliant resources site. The have every walk you could imagine in Scotland in detail with pictures and downloadable GPS files etc. Absolutely great stuff. During your planning stage you'll probably have a rough idea of where you want to be each night. Watch folks youtube stuff and read walk reports on walkhighlands. If you have any specific questions then you can post on walkhighlands forum and start a chat with people on there about it. And of course you can ask me. 🙂🐾👍

@@HoundsofHowgate I do have a question. Something you might be able to help me with because I'm colour blind so I don't trust myself. I'm not sure whether to get the Camo or Spruce. I'd prefer something that blends in more because wild camping isn't legal in most places (outside of Scotland) but for 30g more the spruce is actually significantly better: Camo = .67 oz/sqyd Dyneema Composite Fabric, Puncture Strength: 1.9 lb, Water Resistance: 15,000HH. Spruce = .74 oz/sqyd Dyneema Composite Fabric, Puncture Strength: 3.1 lb, Water Resistance: 20,000HH. If I was sure about the spruce being a good camo colour I wouldn't ask but my wife says that the Camo one doesn't look natural either. Any thoughts or suggestions?
@HoundsofHowgate5 жыл бұрын
@@BravingTheOutDoors the spruce stands out heavy style. The camo when you get it kinda looks shiny and green but after a while it goes more like a dull fabric and brown with green. For sure the camo is best for blending into the environment. And privacy as you can't see through it as well as the patterns are broken. No doubt that at all. Plus the camo I have in both my Duplex and Duomid stood up to all the seasons in Scotland so it is more than good enough. 🙂🐾👍

@@BravingTheOutDoors check out that Zpacks Duplex vs. MLD Duomid vid for an example. You can see how much more natural my more used Duplex in camo looks vs. my newer MLD Duomid in Camo looks.

We stayed in the camping and caravan club site. Then to the Bunkhouse near Inversnaid. The bunk house was a rip off, the food was expensive for what you got. I wouldn't return there. Thanks Steve.

Was that the food at the hotel at Inversnaid or does the bunkhouse have a place that sells food too?
@stevesdaysoff27596 жыл бұрын
Hounds of Howgate Yes the bunk house has its own restaurant. very expensive.
@mylesmcs03096 жыл бұрын
The Inversnaid Hotel has a nice bar and the restaurant isn't bad, prices are really not that bad. The bunk house has a 'restaurant' room where the serve a limited menu in the evening and breakfast in the mornings.
