My Junior High School Band performed this complete with cannon fire provided by members of the American Legion firing blanks in their Garand Rifles into 52 gallon drums to simulate cannon fire. That was around 1973. It was brilliant! I still have one of the empty .30-06 cartridges I picked up off the state after the concert. I don't think it would be possible to have Garand Rifles on a school stage in this day and age...
