Lovely sounding 0.600 Leyland engine, the design od which was sold to DAF. All these engines had an odd induction "wheeze" Tiger PS2, were a lovely vehicle to drive even had synchromesh gear boxes.

Great diesel sound, funny though, danish built (by DAB in Silkeborg, Jutland, in the 60ies) leyland buses sound just like this rare and fine piece!

The uneven idling (if that's what you're referring to by funny sound) is common in old commercial diesels. could be anything from low compression on a cylinder to general tiredness

The uneven idling is due to two factors,(a) cold engine &(b)possibly a pneumatic governor fiteed to the injector pump. Halifax PD 2 's had CAV injector pump's with a hydraulic governor fitted which gave a much smoother idling. I enjoyed my days with them.

Hi Leyland's can be pigs to start when they are cold. You could try the easy start, but it is not best recomended as you could blow your head gaskets, and continious use could get your engine adicted to the stuff. Paul

'Hunting', the name for uneven tickover, was a characteristic of post-war Leyland engines, virtually uniquely. It was not a fault.
