For 300 Norma Magnum would you get ELR or Magnum Ti?

The 7 SAUM is a great round, but if you need to send a round thru an engine block at 800 yards because someone is trespassing on your property in a blue Dodge with a flat black drivers side front fender, a 6” lift sitting on 33”X12.5” mismatched brand tires, a dent in the rear passenger bedside and tailgate, a large rust/burn spot on the hood where more than likely the engine was on fire once, with gray interior and poaching deer out of season then the land owner should probably go with the 338… just my opinion!

Have you tried the 195gr bullets in the Saum, and if so how did it do? 338lm with 285 would do very well .

I’ve stuck with 180s for the extra velocity. In a Lapua I think 300g is the way to go
@mr.rem26094 жыл бұрын
@@WestDesertShooter I think 300 is to heavy, u are sacrificing velocity. I prefer the 285 in mine. The technology in bullets like the .264 and .277 (6.5mm/7mm) have really made the smaller cartridges shine. I punch in data and look at time of flight also. Less time in the air less time for ouside influences to act apon. I enjoyed your video, that was some great shooting!!! Thank you.

That is why I sold my 338 is the expense of all that powder brass and bullets. Loved the 338 Lapua but just to costly for shooting to me. I have a 300 WSM and a 6.5 creedmoor that I shoot now Also a 223 26" 1:7 twist but have shot them yet. Both the 300 WSM and 223 rem are in a Oryx chassis. My Tikka T3x CTR haven't shot either this darn COVID stuff has me inside to much. I have a inside 100 yd range available but rather go to the range soon I hope. Trying to make up my mind to sell the Tikka it is brand new and pickup a left hand TIKKA 3x Tac A1. The 300wSM and 223 are Savage Model 12 heavy fluted barrels all RH as are most of my rifles. You either learn to shoot RH or spend more money with fewer rifles to choose from. Love your site always watching for new you tube videos.

OSS only makes sense to me on finnicky guns like the scar and tavor who normally can't suppress well. OSS cans in my experience are super loud even on subs and bolt guns which is why I've never considered them.

That's great velocity on your 7mm saum. What barrel twist is it? My 1in8 won't let me get over 2750fps, twist is driving up pressure. I get sticky bolt and loose primers if I push the 180's much over 2800, and my accuracy drops off.

Interesting. I thought you get tighter groups with a brake over a can.
@mediumugly43224 жыл бұрын
Like everything, it depends. I’ve personally seen guys get tighter groups with a can and folks get tights groups without a can. Same with brake or bare muzzle, really just depends on the gun
@CJ-ty8sv4 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of variables that come into play when you swap between a Can and a Brake. I've found that when I swap between a can and brake on all my large fast calibers that I have to change my load or my seating depth to get the same groups with both devices. Although the change isn't significant, I still see a group change for the same loads with vs. without the can.

“Comment” => Everyone needs to own a Remington 700 338 Lapua Mag. Being able to shoot mine gives complete respect as to what is possible in long range shooting. I love how it gives a nice push and it’s total capability down range. Pure pleasure with a Jewl 6 oz trigger.
@machinist72304 жыл бұрын
The 338 Lapua is marginal in the 700, the bolt really isn't large enough. There's a reason all the aftermarket actions tend to be .750 bolt diameter, and 1.470 receiver diameter..
@johnblythe82294 жыл бұрын
@@machinist7230 I can respect your build references, but “to me” that doesn’t take away from the sheer pleasure of what the 338 in my particular brand and model does for me. I have multi custom builds used in PRS, F-Class Open and Bench-rest but over all I enjoy the .338 Lapua the best. I also have a .375 H&H but with handloads with a 285 gr bullet and H1000 at .3 groups, my children have been instructed to bury the rifle with me when I pass. Considering I’m 55 yrs of age, I most likely will top out with no more than 20 more years and love my little magnum. God bless

I wonder who thinks that. Maybe like 2k yards. But yeah .338 lm gonna be my next build because terminal ballistics are crazy
@machinist72304 жыл бұрын
You might want to consider something like a 300 Norma or similar seriously overbore 30 caliber cartridge, as the new Berger 245 grn is within .02 G1 bc of the 300 grainers, and would almost certainly send them at a higher velocity.
@lloydcastleton4 жыл бұрын
Not really worried about that with .338. But as is with 6.5 grendel vs 6 arc smaller faster cartridges doesn't mean better performance on target
@paulwatterson59924 жыл бұрын
I would measure kinetic energy not foot pounds of energy. A bullet which can unload all of its kinetic energy inside the target would be the most lethal.
