State Bicycle Co. out of Tempe, Arizona makes affordable, functional, stylish bicycles. Western Bikeworks is proud to be a State Bicycle Co. dealer. When you receive your new bike, it will require some assembly.
We highly recommend you take your new bike a shop to have it professionally assembled. However, if you don't have a shop in your area, this video will walk you through the process step-by step.
Make sure you read the owner's manual completely, and always use a torque wrench on critical fasteners.

Great video. I am building a custom fixed gear bike with a State Bicycle Black Label v2 6061 frame and the Essor carbon fork that comes with it. All of the other components are personal choice upgrades.

Do you also have to tighten freewheel side?

Thank you for the informative video. I learned a lot within this 19mins. I do need to point out that if I was to buy this bike and do the assembly myself I would miss out on three important things; one, the back break and two, the lockring and three, the handlebar alignment. IMO this video would then be complete and could be dont in 25 minutes.

Ted Brooks Thanks for watching, Ted. We made the decision to skip the rear brake setup since it is essentially the same as the front. In the interest of keeping the video somewhat short, the lockring removal/installation and handlebar alignment was glossed over. Since State Bicycles (and most other manufacturer's) either recommend or require that the bicycle be professionally assembled, we opted not to be exhaustive in this case. Let us know if you have additional questions.

I watched this whole video to see how to remove the chain ring and tighten the cog and you skipped it... lol
@Westernbikeworks
@Westernbikeworks 8 жыл бұрын
+One-Punch Mcgee Sorry about that. In the interest of time we had to cut some stuff out. You'll need a lock ring spanner and a chain whip. The lockring is a left-hand thread, meaning you turn it clockwise to loosen it. The cog itself is a right-hand thread, meaning you turn it counter-clockwise to loosen it. Hope this helps.

My fork squeeks when I turn it. When I loosen it, the handlebars don't turn with the fork. What do I do?

Is the torque wrench absolutely necessary? Would it be dangerous if I just went by my own common sense, like tighten it hard but loose enough were I can still unscrew it, but it is in snug.
@Westernbikeworks
@Westernbikeworks 9 жыл бұрын
***** Thanks for watching, Paul. Unfortunately, the days of "snug enough" by feel have gone the way of the dodo. Critical fasteners, such as those securing the handlebar and stem, really should be tightened using a torque wrench. Ultimately, the price of a torque wrench will be much less than facial reconstruction surgery. There are some inexpensive options out there, such as this one: www.westernbikeworks.com/product/park-tool-tw-1-torque-wrench . If most of your fasteners specify 5Nm, this option from Ritchey is super convenient: www.westernbikeworks.com/product/ritchey-6-bit-torque-key

hey i was wondering what size torque wrench you were using?
@Westernbikeworks
@Westernbikeworks 9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. The torque wrench I was using in this video is the Park Tool TW-5 (www.westernbikeworks.com/product/park-tool-tw-5-ratcheting-torque-wrench-3-15-nm). It has a range of 3-15 Nm, which makes it suitable for just about every fastener on the bicycle, with the exception of pedals, bottom bracket cups, and cassette lockrings. Shimano's PRO torque wrench (www.westernbikeworks.com/product/pro-torque-wrench) is also a great option.

I just brought this bike! Im a little bummed because you didn't put the back brake in that was the part I was confused about. My brake seemed to fit wrong like it was too close the frame. Also it felt like I had too much cable. What do you think the issue could be/ how do I fix this besides just taking it to a bike shop lol?
@Westernbikeworks
@Westernbikeworks 9 жыл бұрын
Ryan, Thanks for watching. The rear brake installation is identical to the front, with the exception of the placement. The rear brake should face the back of the bicycle, mounted to the back of the brake bridge that connects the seatstays. If by "too much cable" you mean too much cable tension, I would check to make sure the little lever on the brake where the cable is connected is in the down position. That lever is a quick-release that opens up the brake caliper to allow the tire to clear the pads when removing and installing it. Hope this helps.

Hey I was wondering on why it was import to remove the lock ring from the bike? Because I left mine on my state and it seems to ride fine but good video anyways very straight forward
@Westernbikeworks

Oscar Salazar Thanks for watching, Oscar. Because an improperly tightened lockring and cog can be a significant safety issue on fixed-gear bikes, it's important to remove them, ensure that the threads are properly greased, and re-install it to the correct torque/tightness. The factories in which the bikes are built generally do a good job, but it's always a good idea to make sure it was installed correctly.

How would you rate state bicycle's ride comfortability and stability?
@Westernbikeworks
@Westernbikeworks 9 жыл бұрын
Allen Wee Allen, the State bikes are all steel and that means they will flex for you when you need them to or are otherwise extremely stable (hence why steel is still such a popular element to build bikes with). The comfortablity you are asking of all comes from proper sizing and adjusting the bike to your body. Any bike can be comfortable, and State Bikes are a brand we stand by in terms of incredible performance for the price.
