It’s really interesting that this was developed purely as a defensive mechanism against predators. When hunting prey they keep these rattles silent. They only deploy the rattle when afraid.
@Howlingburd19 Жыл бұрын
You’ll learn that almost every snake on the planet has some sort of defense mechanism before deciding to strike/bite. Biting a threat is the last thing a snake wants to do. In the end, they just want to be left alone. Always respect potentially dangerous animals.

I love snakes and loved catching small snakes in my backyard since I was a young kid. I've owned multiple snakes, mostly non-venomous and a few mildly venomous. My gf screams anytime she sees a little garter snake crossing the pavement and I always find it amusing. But I'm telling you, if I ever saw this thing out in the wild, I'm running to my mommy and never letting go.

I give props to all rattlesnakes bc they literally give you a warning to back away. Although some rattlesnakes either have short rattles and can barely make a sound or they strike on sight. Even though, watch your step around bushed, shrubbed or rocky areas and listen out because the venom is volatile.
@chrismartindale7840 Жыл бұрын
I learned (not the hard way fortunately) in snake prone areas you should kick a log before you step over it. If a rattlesnake is under that log he will immediately start rattling.

I read that the rattle is used to warn any predators by saying "Stay back, I'm dangerous and I will strike." Rattlesnakes are ambush predators and when a human or large predators come along, it's their way of saying "You just scared off my dinner, thanks bud!"

They are magnificent. I can across a 3 year old on my MTB ride yesterday. Second time in a month I’ve encountered one. I just hung out about 8 feet away, watched it and shot some short videos and pictures. It went into a defensive posture like this one. If I stayed still the rattle would slow down and stop but the second I moved it sped up again. They look so bad-ass when they are in that posture, just pure muscle.
