Hi there, there is three official languages, Flemish, French and German, since there's a small part of belgium that does speak German near aachen, Germany, from past recollection.

Nice one, but you kinda got scammed for your jouney to Charleroi: there are direct hourly Intercity trains between Brussels Airport and Charleroi Central station, now sure they charge you a supplement fee from Brussels Airport but it's still cheaper. Hope this helps for your return journey if you're still there, or for your next trip to Belgium ^^
