How do you know what is on A or B phases?

It's going to be a chore to find out. I would have to do a current check on each incoming phase at the breaker panel. Then turn on various things to figure out which phase shows an increase in current. Even then you have to worry about fridges/freezers cycling while you're doing that.

Also, some breaker panels it is easy to see if you remove the cover panel. Others, not so much.

@@FlashinthePan82 ah okay, im down here in FL and by the grace of god we didnt flood, but i do need to work on figuring out how to get my gen connected to the house. I didnt know you could just.. plug it into a socket and back feed it like that! LOL

It's a little on the sketchy side but, as long as you're smart about it. It should be fine. Just remember to shut off your main, lol.
