This is exactly what I needed. I have the tri-fuel version. I haven't looked yet, but suspect it has the same sensor. I built an elaborate sound reduction enclosure atconsiderable expense and effort. Even though I have 4 intake and 2 outlet fans, the sensor still cuts off the generator in about 30 seconds. There is no safety issue, as nobody can get into the enclosure with the generator. It's 11PM as I watch this. I will try your solution in the morning, and report back. Thanks so much for your help!

Field report: Taping the sensor worked! It's been running 45 minutes fully enclosed with no issues! Thanks again! [Editorial rant: It's ridiculous that customers have to jury-rig a productto work in a situation which offers NO risk to humans. If Mommy State feels it must treat us like irresponsible kids, it should require generator manifacturers include a wall-mount CO monitor to place in living areas.]

A friend had problems with a CO sensor and said it was because they also fail in direct sunlight????? I just bought a Wgen 14500tfc and I’m going to tape my sensor before I even start it and also put a box fan blowing on it when I first use it. I don’t want the sensor to trip even once in case that’s an issue too. And …I won’t get rid of my other generators - the ones that don’t have a CO sensor. We’re really on our own these days. No one is coming to save us. Be prepared. The walls in front of us. We’re gonna hit.

Short and sweet and a piece of tape! I didn't have the correct bit to remove the screws. I was able to slide a piece of tape behind and around the sensor which solved the problem! Thank you!!!

I should’ve read all the comments first. I just bought the same model and after 3 1/2 minutes it shut down putting it in my 8 x 10 shed with ventilation. I saw this video before purchasing the generator, but I didn’t read all the comments and now I’ve put electrical tape on mine lol. We’ll see how long it last and if this works and next time I’ll put on the aluminum tape , thanks for the video!

@@MyStoneFX did this work for you? It didn’t work for me in a closed shed, but it worked with the doors open as far as I can tell. I shut it down after 20 minutes of it working in the shed with the doors open.

Thank you. I put a new exhaust silencer and it started to trip the sensor. So to test to see if this was the issue I tried your fix. It worked.

After I I tested with the electrical tape, I put aluminum tape on it to “test”. The aluminum tape sticks better and longer.

I have a similar model and use a box fan to vent air away from the sensor side. You can also put an extension on the exhaust to take the exhuast away from the sensor area. If you have propane or Natural gas, the chances of a sensor shutdown are less. Confined space will increase the chances of shut off. Restricting ventilation to the sensor can reduce the chance of shut down. Paper tape will reduce but not totally block the sensor. It is the gasoline that has that extra CO 2 to trip that sensor. Covered (box) must be vented on top and sides. Keep the box vented.

@@SSpees 1 piece of aluminum tape will take care of it, and way less work.

Did you tape over the original sensor or is that a new replacement sensor? If it’s the original sensor, how did you reset the generator to run again. Mine will not reset once the sensor has been tripped.
@grumpysdiy6 ай бұрын
Original sensor. Disconnect the battery, then disconnect the sensor. Put back together with taped sensor.

I have this same problem with the Westinghouse iGen5000DFC. This video is for an open air style generator. Does anyone know where this sensor is hiding inside my fully enclosed plastic housing?

Just lost power in a hurricane and have this generator to run the walk-in at a restaurant. I only operate it on propane and have this problem in an outdoor area with what I would say has 8/10 ventilation; the walk-in is surrounded by a wood fence, but I’m leaving the gate wide open to try to give it plenty of air. Problem for me is that it doesn’t shut off right away - just shuts off randomly due to this issue so I have to keep checking it - not so much fun in the middle of the night.

I have this same issue. Brand new out of the box. This design is ridiculous. It trips constantly in open free air. This is what you get from our illustrious federal government. This government interference is unsafe. If I needed this generator to run something important like my wife's oxygen generator that she needs because she has heart failure, she would have died. Stay out of our lives feds.
