WestJet passengers react to strike, cancelled flights

I’ve been in the industry for 26 years, I have seen many airlines come and go. Westjet was a great airline, 8 years ago their philosophy & work ethic started to change which led to them being sold to Onex Corporation in 2019. If ownership & staff don’t change they’ll end up like Canada 3000, Royal, Canjet, JetsGo and others.

Worstjet was out even before this strike. Their exit began when they began to screw travelers with charging for carry ons. Bye bye Worstjet 😂😂😂😂

AMEs have for many years just sucked it up on their individual own to keep the operation working. No unions . So we have had no voice. Yet we have just took whatever the company offered . Less then inflation most of the time so we have been going backwards. Aircraft maintenance Is a highly specialized and regulated industry. People barely even know we exist because we are so quite . So as of late we make as much as a car mechanic even though we work on a flying 100-500 million dollar life support machines and doing it safely always as we always think of first . Yet we get paid car mechanic wages and lack respect and Pilot union wages have increased for their recognition of the importance of what they do. USA aircraft maintenance is +40% more then what we make for the responsibility which we take on . A lot of general labour trades make more then us, our Wages need to increase. I thank WJ AMEs for what they are doing for all the rest of us Ames in Canada. WJ Management and now the public are seeing us with what you are . And I'm very sorry for those stranded or unable to make their special events. People take for granted flying across a large distance in a matter of hours safely and that comes at a cost of high stress to keep the operation on time and safe.

Poor management and sleezy union. Millions lost by hotels, tour operators, family vacations ruined. Westjet now another AC. And that not good.

I don't see any Foreign workers or immigrants in that picket line up. haven't seen a single Pilipino or Indian on strike in my life, even though they work at McDonalds and hotels doing harder work

@@Homegrown_Values Spoiled whiners is all I am saying. Did you realize that there are 1000 other airlines in other countries with highly qualified mechanics. You must be a racist if you assumed that foreign workers don't have qualifications. All you see is uber and taxi drivers. dude I am trolling you. I have the same home grown values as you. Actually the Employer and employees should not be fighting each other as they both need each other to survive. The problem is the Liberal and NDP that handed out money for 2 yrs during Covid shut down which should not have lasted more than 3 months, except for a choice by weak politicans. NOW we have inflation 30 - 100% since 2020 and people wages thus are worth way less, even 30% less depending on how you spend money. The Unions should be boycotting the Gov't leaders and they are the ones that can change policy so that inflation goes down. Getting a pay raise is a band-aid cure....we are just in the beginning stages of almost every worker demanding a raise as wages are worthless now than in 2020....inflation is about to spiral like it did in Argentina. who is flying airplanes is the least of the problems.
