Westmoreland Mall is my childhood mall, and it's great to see that the 1993 interior is, for the most part, still intact. I've had the fear at the back of my head for years now that a new renovation was quietly being planned, or at least that the fountains would be removed. But earlier this year, both the Macy's court fountain and the center court fountain (which gets turned off and covered for the holiday season) underwent extensive repairs including re-tiling in areas where tiles were starting to come loose and a new underground pipe for the Macy's fountain. With that work taken care of, I imagine the fountains are here to stay for the foreseeable future

Yeah, I was wondering if this mall had a Center Court fountain man I would love to see that I’m gonna have to return after the holiday season

The Kaufmann's there became Macy's around 2005 or 06. I was a teenager at the time, and this was my mall. In fact, that Christmas train is the same exact one I rode as a baby in the late 90s. That entire Christmas display is at least that old. The bubble tea place you pass at 8:22 used to be Orange Julius. So many good memories there. I can't believe the Suncoast logo is still on the storefront floor! My mom always went to the Phillip Pelusi (near Kauf/Macy's) to get her hair done. I can still smell those fountains. I'll never forget my friend and I sharing an extremely chocolate-y sundae from Dairy Queen in the food court, and I couldn't take 2 bites because it was so rich lol. We always sat in that cool raised center area. It's actually nice to see that the mall hasn't changed much at all (and still going strong it seems), but little ever changes in small areas like Greensburg (I grew up in a much more rural town 20 minutes away) Sorry for the novel, but I've missed this mall, so thank you for making this video on it! Westmoreland Mall needs more love from mall enthusiasts.

I enjoyed visiting this mall. It had an amazing blend of retro 80s nostalgia while not looking tired old and neglected. I could see this mall being the new stranger things starcourt mall.

@@TiltedTripodMedia When it's not Christmas, you can go to Google and search for Westmoreland mall to see the fountain and what the mall looked liked before the idiots took out the palm trees, they had been there since I can remember. If it's the same images on everybody's thing it's the first picture actually in images

Nice video! Cool to see a video about my local mall. The casino actually opened in November of 2020. I’m pretty sure the capacity was limited so it probably didn’t fully open until later. But I definitely visited the casino in 2021.

I’m 51, been going to that mall for 44 years, haven’t been there in awhile, I’m local. I’m guessing you filmed on a Sunday during Christmas season cuz chic fila is closed? Maybe they werent open yet? I can’t believe how empty that place is during Xmas season, used to be wall to wall people and cars. Traffic jams everywhere near the mall and the satellite stores close by. The Xmas displays can’t compare to when I was a kid, the train ride is weak LOL. There used to be a piano store at the top of the one escalator and the employees would often play the instruments. I remember all of the renovations in the 90s cuz they added the food court. You used to be able to smoke in that mall, garbage cans used to have ashtrays on the top. Radio shack, electronics boutique and many of the stores I remember are gone. It’s a shame. Edit: 7:54 SHOCKED to see tobacco village is still there!!!! I won’t spend one dollar at that stupid casino Edit 2: 9:05 to ur right used to be an arcade and next to the glass doors across from macys used to be the movie theatre I think was carmike cinemas

Thanks for all the cool info. For modern times I would consider this mall doing well now comparing it to the 80’s no. Little to no malls are thriving like in the 80’s. I guess we should be lucky we even have any malls left.

Last time I was here, there was also still a working fountain in the main area where the elevator is. It seemed like it was just temp covered for the Christmas stuff.

Honestly, the mall is not looking dead versus it’s status about 5 years ago. I was in Pittsburgh for a decade and would visit this mall usually once a month. I am not a big fan of casinos as they run a life cycle and die off into a undesired customer base after the glitz and glam has worn away. So… anyway… this mall has benefitted from major population shift and development around the Greensburg area. People that don’t need to live downtown or near the airport like this area because it’s not too far away, the schools were decent and new developments were popping up with attractive pricing versus Murrysville. The mall also benefits from there not really being much to do around that area unless you want to shop at a big box in the Greengate part of route 30. I think this mall has actually gotten better based upon your video. Other than low traffic in the video, I assume you filmed on a Sunday and you have to factor in that many folks might have been at church or it was a “STILLERS” weekend for the yinzers. Sundays are very unique in western PA and retail traffic always takes a major dive when pro or high school sports are in action. Thanks for posting!
