Just caught a big ol black rockfish off the jetty in Westport. I've had the best luck using "the general" (green 5 inch) Berkley Powerbait, but this video is correct that the fish aren't that picky. I know some guys swear by the all white ones. I think I'll go for some surf perch again on the crescent beach right next to it, had some luck a few years ago and can't wait to try again. A tip for when you get snagged (because you will, many times), give the line some slack then pull it with your hand instead of yanking on the rod. I unsnagged about 20:1 pulling the line with my hand, had to re-rig twice fishing for about 3-4 hours. Often times you're really just snagged on kelp/seaweed which eventually will come loose.

Wow so detailed. I subbed. I never knew about the sand shrimp in tokeland.

If you're fishing from the jetty you'll want smaller jigs and curly tail plastics, 1/2 -2 oz should be plenty heavy. Get the cheap stuff cause you'll loss gear and the fish aren't that picky. The bottom is super grabby so you need to be constantly paying attention or you'll loss stuff. Another option would be a float and suspended bait like herring and let the rig drift with the tide/wide. Don't use your nice steelhead floats, go cheap until you get the hang of it.

Very helpful information at the gear part of the video! I'm going Black Sea Bass fishing tomorrow and it helped me find the gear and things I needed to do it! Thank you for the help!

I almost went there last week for some fishing, but plans changed. Can't wait to try it this summer. Awesome Vid

I've never been up there then, I think it's good year round. Winter brings on storms making the jetty even more dangerous to walk it.

Really....I'll have to give that a try. We have a cabin on the Sound. What do you use to get at them? Is it any different than what these guys are doing?

Hooks can be big, what ever comes on the jigs. For the tube bait again, I used a large bass hook, 1/0, match to the hook. Lings and rockfish have big mouths, you don't have to go small gear on them. The comment about fishing about the weight refers to a drop shot type presentation. Hook is suspended 1-2 feet above the weight which bounces the bottom.

Have you ever tried your luck at the North Jetty on the Ocean Shores side of the harbor entrance? Seems like it ought to produce about the same....

I'm thinking about hitting up the Jetty again in October for Black Rockfish. Do you know if October is still a good month to land a couple? I'm a bit new to fishing off the Jetty. Any advice would help a ton! :) I'll be fishing off the rocks.

Will those Rockfish hit bait cast from the jetty? Or do they require movement?

I have the same boat. How do you like yours with the 120HP Johnson? Mine has the 150HP V6 and is kind of on its last legs. I may eventually re-power with a smaller motor (save some money and hopefully fuel as well). I go about 42-45 MPH on the top end, but cruise usually in the low 30's.
@NorthwestFishingTV9 жыл бұрын
+srfkach I have had so many great adventures with my boat. I do a lot of overnights and a lot of fishing in it. The 120 pushes it along at around 28-30mph. But the motor is old an maybe isn't putting out all it used to. I seem to remember it cruised 33-35 when I first got it.
@srfkach9 жыл бұрын
+Northwest Fishing Reports - Just curious, are those your top speeds or cruising speed? I've been considering a repower eventually and thinking about going with a lower HP motor and wondering how you do with the 120. Going 45 is kind of fun, but you can watch the fuel guage go down! Some of the 115 HP 4 strokes don't weigh too much, just wondering if it would be enough power. Thanks for the good videos!
@NorthwestFishingTV9 жыл бұрын
+srfkach sorry for the late reply. My boat won't win any races, but it moves 2-4 people along just fine. Re-power is the way I would go for my boat for sure. I wouldn't change my HP much in either direction.

Are you able to fish off the jetty? standing near the beach area of the jetty?
@NorthwestFishingTV8 жыл бұрын
yes, you can walk out on to it, as far as you feel comfortable. It gets pretty treacherous with the slippery rocks.
