His story is simple i guess , he was one of the outliers who was corrected or edited in the white facility and now has been picked up by dolores because of his military background so that he will be of use in fighting and shooting and since he was edited or corrected once it would be good a showcase in the story to show that humans are no greater than the hosts of the westworld...

@@Phyde4ux I actually thought Delores may have set up the attack to solidify her position as a protector or at least someone with his best interest at heart that he should trust. Just like she might have done later after everything was in chaos. She might have even sent that missile to Halores to clean up the emotional distraction of Charlotte's family. So, I'm not sure who's truly doing what, but I just don't see Serac trying to kill his brother. The brother who was the genius creator of "God" he greatly admired, his last real connection to humanity he wanted desperately to save from himself? It just doesn't fit for me. If Serac is trying to kill his brother, it actually might be further proof that Serac is not actually alive, and it's Rohoboam using Serac's avatar to get things done. After all, this entire season could just be sim after sim after sim. We won't know till the end if anything is real. Then again, with this show, probably not even then. lol

The scene where Caleb’s Mom tells Caleb “your are not my son” reminds me of the scene when Charlotte’s son, Nathan, tells Charlotte “you are not my mother”. I believe they found a way to put Serac’s brother in Caleb. Similar to the way Dolores is in multiple hosts. The main characters in Westworld and the real world have one family member that helps the character understand their world and gives them a sense of purpose. That’s why Dolores had a father, Bernard had a son named Charlie in his programming, Maeve wants to exist for her daughter, The love the characters have for their family is used to anchor them. I think Serac found a way to make his brother a hybrid, using Caleb’s body, without completely getting rid of Caleb or his memories. Caleb doesn’t know who he is. Neither does Serac. My guess is, something is hidden in Caleb.

disagree. Right up until that point, Dempsey was praising and preserving the system. Why would he say Caleb is the worst for making it? Caleb was the worst because he destroyed it or was an extream outlier. Liam jr wasnt against outlier program, his dad was. Dempsey actually saw his own death, if you look back he stops just short of saying it. He stops short and starts getting angry at the guy who was about to shoot him. Then the dude shoots him and says "I guess I do have a choice" (cept he doesnt because the system predicted it). I think the reason Dempsey is pissed with Caleb is because Caleb is the one who brought it down and ruined Liams life.
He says “you’re the worst of THEM” aka the outliers. It’s more indication that he’s “Jean Mi.”

This was my first though when Serac revealed he had a bother, but none of it make any sense, why would Serac be trying to buy Delos if Serac has mastered fidelity, surely it would be the other way?
@martinhall85314 жыл бұрын
James Delos and William were searching for immortality through fidelity. Serac is after the four million profiles of human visitors to Westworld, and for the human algorithm which has thus far eluded him, given rise to divergent behaviour being a ‘random’ element in the other wise flawless logic based upon environmental variables and data, which it uses to ‘guess’ very accurately. This algorithm would allow flawless replication of all human behavioural traits

somaiat this is entirely possible given the fact that what we see so far is through how Caleb perceives himself.
@michaeldbouck4 жыл бұрын
Agree. The "re-education" essentially re-programs the person's personality and view of themselves. If Serac's brother was re-educated to assume the role of Caleb (the real Caleb is likely dead) then that is the way he sees himself. That would explain the obvious counter to this theory which is that Caleb appears to be no more than 40 (Aaron Paul is 40). We know that Serac's brother is older than Serac and Serac is a man in his mid fifties which means the "real" Caleb is a man pushing 60. However if we, the viewer, have always been viewing "Caleb" the way Caleb views himself this whole time we have not seen the "real" Caleb yet a.k.a. Serac's brother. That would be a brilliant reveal. Now I want to re-watch episodes 1-5 and pay attention to the way other characters interact with "Caleb" - presumably they see Caleb as he really is - a man in his late fifties. Maybe Chuckles calls Caleb "old man" or something...

It does look like Serac's Editing process is a bit like the reprogramming of the hosts. It's possible that Caleb's mother really isn't his mother. She is, however, his cornerstone given to him after the editing. Very much like Bernard's son. His real mother may be dead. From a writing perspective, the fact that she insists he's not her son suggests this is key clue in the story which will have consequences later when the truth is know. Otherwise, it's just a wasted line, and West World has not had a history of wasting lines.

It makes sense. I think Dolores also knew who she was looking for when she pretended to be dying from her wounds the night Caleb found her. In episode 5 she fully blocks bullets from hitting Caleb with out a flinch and their eyes meet after. It's not clear if he had an epiphany in witnessing this. But I mean that is a pretty big twist, she proved that her dying in the earlier episode was probably a complete act. She can withstand bullets without losing any consciousness.

Yeah I preferred that theory before E5. At the same time, I'm still not convinced that Serac is real and not just a personification of Rehoboam. In E1, Liam said that Dempsey Sr built and optimized Solomon and Rehoboam. Serac has only appeared infront of anyone in the real world as a hologram. Even could have been a hologram projection from the jet in front of the Brazilian president. Maeve was likely in a simulation when she met Serac.

not discounting any ‘theories’ at this point - Nolan & Joy have done a great job of staying way ahead of audience’s expectations & hypotheses this season. and, frankly, i’m glad for that. a ‘Caleb/Jean Mi’ amalgamation is an interesting thought, but there are a few obvious problems with it: 1) if we accept that at least most of what we’ve been seeing this season is grounded in a ‘real’, tangible, physical reality (one where the chaotic laws of the Universe rule the day rather than the algorithmic trajectories of Rehoboam), then we’ve been watching (largely) the ‘real’, ‘reality-impacting’, physical actions of a ‘real’ Delores Prime, a ‘real’ Caleb, a ‘real’ Serac, a ‘real’ Hale/Delores 2.0, a ‘real’ Jimmy/Man In Black, and on and on. the world in chaos IS the ‘real’ world in chaos; 2) with that in mind, the characters of Jean Mi and Caleb simply do not fit one atop the other very easily (if i remember correctly, Jean Mi is Egerand’s OLDER brother and Aaron Paul is just not a fit as Sam Cassell’s ‘older’ brother [barring awesome physical and anatomical surgical advances]); 3) a lot of the audience has forgotten the VERY significant brutal, savage ‘Wyatt’ construct that Arnold specifically programmed into the demure, compliant Delores unit so as to prompt her path toward ‘true’ consciousness and choice; the ‘Delores Prime’ we’re seeing in this season is nothing at all like the demure Delores of Season 1 or the cold-hearted, brutal Delores/Wyatt of Season 2; ‘Delores Prime’ seems to be a very different highly balanced, combination of those two personalities - capable of extraordinary acts of tactical brutality as well as acts of deep compassion for both ‘Hosts’ (‘Hale/Delores 1.0’, Bernard) and ‘humans’ (‘Delores Prime’ most obviously with Caleb, ‘Hale/Delores 1.0’ with her ‘new’ son); 3) when Serac mentions two very important things in Episode 5 that i think are going way undervalued: The First being that “human beings can be edited” - with that ‘editing’ referring to his brother’s analogous mental/emotional tendencies (ie, editing at the synaptic, epi-genetic level), and The Second being that even Rehoboam is not powerful enough to precisely predict every nano-second of a ‘real’ future - that there were pockets of time where real randomness or ‘choice’ could play themselves out and still not upset the larger algorithmic trajectory (eg, Liam Sr.’s murder). it makes perfect sense that an AI like Rehoboam would have to account for the deterministic macro features of human existence (and spot human ‘anomalies’) while also calculating and inputting the chaos and randomness that sometimes naturally springs forth from a Universe/Natural Environment that - by all indicators - seems to be well above the restrictions of classical determinism (ie, thesis, antithesis, synthesis: Wyatt/Delores, Arnold/Bernard, Maeve/Post-Maeve [the ‘machine’ Neo]). the ‘Host’ characters we see this season are very different (synthesis) from their characters in Seasons 1 & 2. and tying Caleb to intimately & neatly into the narrative arc of the season just reads as kind of ... lazy. it keeps the ‘story’ too contained when it’s literally supposed to be “going off its loop”, expanding randomly & chaotically - showing the implications of ‘real’ choice. i think Caleb’s got layers to him that even he’s unaware of. i just don’t think one of those layers is ‘Jean Mi’. and i’d much rather take the ride and be surprised. that said, Jean Mi displayed sociopathic tendencies PRIOR to ending up in the ‘Re-Education Facility’. and his younger brother, Engerand, uncharacteristically fulfills Jean Mi’s wishes (murder of Liam Sr.) pretty dispassionately. perhaps Jean Mi was intelligent and shrewd enough to ‘edit’ himself into a layer of Engerand. and that ‘Jean Mi’ layer is growing more and more prominent? who knows? i’m more than happy to stay guessing at this point!
@johnespino8864 жыл бұрын
Now we would just need to have a scene where Caleb looks at his own reflection and that would clarify a lot of things. But my own take: If he as really Serac’s brother, I would think that he’s a host, and that the ‘mind’ belongs to Serac’s brother. They keep testing for fidelity for a mind being in a body copy, but maybe it’s easier for someone to assimilate into a body that isn’t theirs, as they could just assume into the ‘role’ of that body. This ties in with how Hale-lores originally rejected her new body, even feeling as if the real Hale is crawling from the inside. Maybe there was indeed a Caleb, and he killed himself. I’d think the memories were real and all-it’s just that who’s in the ‘mind’ isn’t Caleb at all-and he had to be re-educated for to ease back into that. It also ties in nicely when talking about what’s real-the body and memories are real, but the real Caleb is dead. Serac’s brother’s ‘mind’ lives on, but his real body is dead. You get this Caleb who we meet this season, who while is Caleb, is not of his mind, and who can be Serac’s brother, but not of his body. Dolores might be the only real thing for him because well, that’s the first genuine thing he encounters as that ‘new’ person. It also ties into the over-arching theme of Westworld about love-it can make you seek immortality, it can make it difficult for you to let go of people you once loved, or it can move you to make the sacrifice of dying for your loved ones. It’s cheesy! I know.
@harvestturkey13394 жыл бұрын
I’ve always kind of wondered if Caleb is a host. I feel like for some reason serac’s brother was turned into a host because if you look at the shot of serac and his brother his brother is his younger self not the older version we saw going mad. What if serac tried to fix him by making him a host but he couldn’t comprehend like Dolores’ Hale copy is freaking out. He may have put his brother in a new copy person ‘caleb’ and when he still couldn’t handle himself he whiped his memory and set him on a coarse for dying by combat, but his brother has always been an outlier and went into crime. (He seems to have a penchant for murder while alive probably a serial killer) and ends up killing his partner, but his reprogram is meant for remorse to not become a killer like his brother and therefore likely die in war, but ends up going mental and hooking up with Dolores instead cause his friend was an outlier too and put motivational seeds in his head. But idk that could all be bullshit I started with one sentence and ended up in a rabbit hole lol.

Caleb is William undergoing psychotherapy. Hearing from Liam, we know that the 'new' Caleb is vicious, the worst of humankind, did loads of nasty things. However, 'new' Caleb, with his real memories wiped out, appears to be benevolent. Doesn't that sound like the William in season one? In Episode 3, Caleb has a strangely strong bond to Dolores, willing to do anything for her without question. He even says that she is the realest thing he has ever met, which is coincidentally similar to William's pursuit of real thing. 'New" Caleb is always asking about 'who he really is', which is the same as William's pursuit of real self. In episode 1, we know that Caleb is undergoing psychotherapy. Everything suggests that 'new' Caleb is William. If Caleb is William, then season 3 is not totally chronological. The storyline of William in episode 4 actually happens right after Dolores' escape from Westworld. Hale in William's storyline is the original Dolores. After putting William into the asylum, she then makes more copies of her, including the frustrated Hale in episode 3.

The true problem with Serac's vision is that he is also an anomaly, an outlier that Rohoboam is unable to predict, and he is also pulling all the strings. Allowing the machine to think will help it account for these outliers and complete the puzzle. I like to think that he will be convinced to allow Bernard, perhaps in emotionless mode, to be hooked into the supercomputer to be the true operator. With the data from the park and the number crunching and analysis that Rohoboam and Bernard are capable of, Bernard will effectively become a super consciousness. Now whether this is truly Bernard inside his diagnostics mode or if Robert has been lying in wait for a second chance to play god outside of the park remain to be seen.

I was watching season 3 ep 3 and i noticed something. Calebs mom is a schizophrenic as was said Seracs brother. As it runs in the family it could be that the schizophrenic brother is her son. When he said “it’s me mom, Caleb” she says “i want my son back, Cal.” as in she wants Cal back. Cal is a french surname from the name Cauvin, no coincidence that there’s a french relation between the two characters. to me it seems that Caleb is Seracs brother that and he tried to erase Serac but instead Serac turned it on him and successfully erased Caleb (as told in EP 7). Serac instead switched names with his brother and so Caleb is Serac and Serac is Caleb, that’s why his mom said she wanted Cal back. What do y’all think?

I dont know, I believe Serac's brothers is actually Serac. The mastermind who created this God kind of 'gaslightened' his own brother in order to have more control and less divergence. Just the fact that he 'was plotting to kill Dempsey' isn't enough for me to buy it. We only saw Serac's point of view about the facts...
@AlastorMordrek4 жыл бұрын
Serac's brother would have privileged knowledge of rehoboams workings. Therefore getting that information stored inside his head would be a priority for Dolores. Think about it... Serac wants to open Dolores' head to get the key to his victory, while Dolores is trying to do the same, except she is trying to open Serac's brother's head to find a way to control or destroy rehoboam.
@deenz81644 жыл бұрын
I'm super loving your theory of Caleb being Serac's brother, and it fits a whole lot more than the theory floating about that Caleb is another version of Dolores. On that topic.... can I suggest another wild theory? In an upcoming episode, Dolores v2 is killed by Maeve, has her pearl stolen and she's uploaded into the machine that Maeve was originally connected to (most likely uploaded by Maeve herself, given the female hand connecting the pearl in the final episodes' trailer). And the reason we haven't seen a fifth pearl at play yet is because that's Dolores' backup should something go to shit... and the earlier season three trailers were snippets of original!body Dolores having been rescued and restarted by Caleb with the fifth pearl (and I suspect Dolores!Hale helps with this, based on the culmination of all the unaired Dolores!Hale clips along with the ones of exoskeleton!Dolores pulling up her arm skin sleeve). Also consider that the first remade version of Dolores in this world took a whumping earlier on and fell into Caleb's arms from the bloodloss, which runs counter to what Dolores was like in the second season. Then, last episode we saw Dolores take three (?) bullets for Caleb like it was nothing. Could the latter be a different point in time, and it's the original (exoskeleton) Dolores doing her thing? She feels different, and I don't know if it's just the hair style (whumped Dolores had her hair loose, while bullet-proof Dolores has her hair tied back) or her general personality that seems different between the episodes.

I know this is all fun but let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. From how Westworld is structured now how would this benefit Sirach in the end having his brother somewhere else? And what would his brother goal be in here? It’s too stretched. There’s an anomaly in the system that’s growing. Sirach wants to save it, his brother had no desire to destroy in the beginning. Dolores wants to break it, Caleb wants to prove the system is wrong but is haunted by his pass. We don’t know yet how his partner died, for all we know liam saw it from his data. And the data could’ve been tampered by rehoboam to lead him to depression. This is the kind of control Dolores is talking about.
@artillerycamel16854 жыл бұрын
This is a good theory but I'm not quite on board. I think that when Liam said "It was you" he meant that Caleb was the one to kill someone (His friend?) and that was a memory that was rewritten. No matter what theory is true though, I don't think it will fit together perfectly because if Caleb killed his friend, then the government can just kill/sentence him. He is divergent so why go through the trouble of re-educating him?

I like this theory as there are so few cast members this season and I don't know what other character we've seen already for a Caleb reveal. My only thought is that Dolores must have hacked the Rico app in such a way that Caleb would choose the correct job to intentially try to meet him. However, how would she know that he would break off his therapy with AI Francis and then go back to the Rico medicine drop site where Dolores faked her abdominal pain (in S2, E10, Dolores kept walking as William shot her multiple times). I just wonder if what we have all been seeing all this time has been Dolores operating within Rehoboam a la the Matrix

I believe this could be highly possible! After learning what Serac does with the outliers (putting them into re-education facilities), why would Caleb’s mom be in a hospital? Her mental illness definitely makes her unpredictable to the system, and therefore need to be kept in one of those facilities. Whoever Caleb really is serac is going against his own ideals to make sure caleb believes it

Interesting! There’s another point in this theory’s favor - so much of this season ha been mirroring S1, and particularly Dolores & Bernarnold from s1. If this theory pans out, Caleb would be a mirror image of Bernarnold - one of the architects married to one of the victims/tools of the system - who is unaware that he is either. So is she setting Caleb & Bernard against each other or maybe using Bernard to help Caleb discover how to meld the two aspects of himself? Is that why Bernard is valuable?

My crazy theory is that Caleb is a host created by Ford secretly with the purpose of being first in the real world before Dolores arrived and somehow he replaces the real Caleb, just like Bernard replaced Arnold and this can be a big plot twist and a way to bring Ford's flasbacks again to the series. His name(Caleb) means dog in greek idiom so he can play Stubbs's role with Bernard but in this case with Dolores. Maybe this can explain why he was going to appear since Season 1, Ford creating him.

The theory that Caleb was “reprogrammed” or “brained washed” and then reintroduced to the society kinda resembles the the opening plot of the 1970s British SciFi series “Blake’s 7”. Even the flash of Caleb being treated kinda looks like the opening scene from that series?!
@hihelloitsme4 жыл бұрын
I like the wildness of this theory but i just find it weird that Serac wouldn’t keep a closer eye at his brother if he is indeed Caleb. Plus those assassins that was sent after Dolores and Caleb would’ve seen Caleb already thus alerting Serac. The one thing that’s for sure though is that Caleb is a much more complex character that has a bigger role to play in the series than we originally thought before. Great video on this one tho!

At some point Serac's brother knew of Serac's plan(maybe when looking at ways to kill Demsey) and probably set this up and that's why his mouthpiece is turned off. Serac knows Caleb exists but the system said made it so he's irrelevant. He was waiting for Delores as much as she was looking for him to take the system down.
@FedorKai4 жыл бұрын
This may sound far fetched because why Caleb of all people, Serac could've given his brother any identity he wanted, but Dolores is not human, she is a host and AI, she is always 10 steps ahead, having calculated and predicated her human opponents every move, for example the bike with the c4 charge on it that was programmed to intercept her attackers, it was there 2 days before the gun fights started, so if she is so meticulous why would she just chose a random loser as her primary companion and leave things to fate and serendipity, so yes I think you are right Caleb is either Serac's brother or he is another very important dude.

I love the theory...but there is one other theory I like. That Caleb is the creator of rehoboam, and there was no older brother at all. Sometime after coming online, Rehoboam achieved sentience, and realised that the greatest threat to it’s existence, after a humanity left unchecked, was in actual fact it’s creator, Caleb, himself. Should he grown fearful and pull the plug. It had access to Delos tech and created a body for itself, Engerraund Serac, the God Machine was now made flesh. This would explain its total invisibility and no digital presence in the real world...which others believe to be a consequence of its ability to rewrite history through riches and power but which is actually a consequence of it not deeming this either necessary, or maybe even a nod to ‘who can know the nature of God’, and thus its own ego mixed with self interest (you cannot fight an enemy you do not believe exists) reminds me of the old adage that the greatest trick the Devil ever played, was to convince humanity he did not exist. It’s treatment of Caleb can be explained by either,’ a degree of loyalty/gratitude to its creator, Caleb, and as such, it simply takes him into a Re-education centre and creates a corner stone, back story and loop for his behaviours. Rehoboam prefers life in the mirror world, as in there he is genuinely all powerful, adopting a host body, only when expressly required, hence the holographic interaction b3ing its preferred method of communication, its ability to control Maeve’s code, in the world it built, a la Ford in Westworld...and its comment to Maeve that the war is already lost.

Just want to throw something out into the ether. I've been hung up on the age difference being a point against the brother thing. Serac and his brother just appear to be much older than Caleb. But now I'm thinking about a Robert Ford quote from way back, "We’ve managed to slip evolution’s leash now, haven’t we? We can cure any disease, keep even the weakest of us alive, and one fine day perhaps we shall even resurrect the dead, call forth Lazarus from his cave. Do you know what that means? That means we are done, that this is as good as we're going to get." "Keeping the weakest of us alive" would explain how two children close enough to the Paris event to suffer from the fallout led productive lives, instead of dying of radiation poisoning, cancer, or whatever. That got me thinking about the distinct lack of older people in the "real" world. Considering how easy it is in our world to change our appearance, in this fictional world of superior med tech... yeah, Caleb could be anyone of any age. Also, if humans truly are "as good as we're going to get," maybe that has more to do with the impending doom of humanity Rohoboam predicted than anything else. Humans reached a peak and tech takes over? Or humans become tech? Might not be the end of the world Serac worries over, but rather a shift to something new he can't comprehend just yet. Anyway, enough rambling. Just thought that quote deserved some rehashing now that we're a couple seasons further in and have so much more to think about. :)

Did anyone else notice the woman in the camp that was crying with a baby blanket? Timeline-wise, could that be the woman Caleb knows as his mother and her real son died (possibly her fault in some way). Insert the terrible memory with the strawberry milkshake. It seems so odd and abrupt that she would just leave. So, what I’m saying is that they both went to the camps, possibly at different times, but we’re pair off making them easier to watch and control.
