That part at the end when Costa says that "his head has been querying itself for the past hour, like he's trying to debug his own brain," suggests to me that Ford is still in there, which then suggests that during "analysis mode" Ford is in control of what info Bernard reveals.

I completely agree, that's why Bernard (or should we say Ford) said that location "Sector 16 - Zone 4", the Valley Beyond. Ford wants everybody to go there. That's why Ford said to William via one of the hosts "I'll see you in the Valley Beyond, William".

I imagine if Ford is in Bernards mind while Charlotte has him he is keeping quiet till necessary so as not to tip his hand. When we see Charlotte get an answer from Bernard we can't hear it. Then Charlotte calls the others into the room and says, Bernard, tell the others what you just told me"..I think she told Bernard to say something other than where the information was with Dolores on purpose so she could get it first. Besides, she could have found Dolores herself since she was already told about using the network.

"The maze itself is the sum of a man's life. The choices he makes, the dreams he hangs onto. And there at the centre there's a legendary man who'd been killed over and over again countless times. He always clawed his way back to life. The man returned for the last time and vanquished all his oppressors in a tireless fury. Built a house, and around that house he built a maze so complicated only he could navigate through it. I reckon he'd seen enough of fighting". Maybe this is a metaphor for arnold, who built his walled house in the cradle and was trying to turing test his son charlie. perhaps his oppressors and his fights were his failed attempts to give consciousness to his 'son', a failure to achieve fidelity - each failure causing him to 'die' inside as he relived the traumatic realisation that his son was beyond his grasp. this could explain why he would commit death by delores, because at the edge of his sanity, a man of science moved toward religious belief as the only means he saw as being possible of ever seeing his son again. perhaps arnold had even been experimenting with simulating dying, to see if consciousness carried over to any other place, to see if he could reach charlie, ultimately being inconclusive leading to his fatal gamble with his real suicide. this may also explain the dying countless times. bit of a stretch, but poetic nonetheless.

Everyone talks about how the Angela scene being odd, but she was literally designed to give you your greatest desire. She's the first host you would see before really entering the park. Next to Dolores, Angela probably has some of the most sophisticated programming of any host. The data used to build her was taken from politicians, the richest of the rich, or as Macho Man would say, the cream of the crop. She also never makes an aggressive gesture to the soldier, until she pulls the pin.

With you 100%, unless a host's control unit is destroyed they're not out of the game yet, that's why I think the only host who isn't coming back after this episode is Angela. I also see Maeve being the one to awaken Clementine, I just don't see the writers passing up a reunion between them, especially with them both at the Mesa now.

theory: William died at the end of season one and William in season 2 is a host/human hybrid who needs to go thru this journey for the process to be successful unlike the failure with James Delos. That is why his arm is not hindering him even though he was shot at the end of season 1.

The Valley Beyond is definitely at that body of water where they found all the hosts, in episode one when Costa locates the hosts there on his data pad thing, it reads "sector 16, zone 4" as the precise location, no doubt about it.

The Ford and Bernard dialogue in this episode was amazing, best part imo. When Ford says to Bernard something to the effect of "you dont actually see what this place really is" to me Westworld is heaven, or the afterlife. The drive for immortality and the constant mention of God, Ford is playing God, literately now.

@jd57876 жыл бұрын
Nobody is speaking about Ford building a new host during S1. The episode where Theresa is killed by Bernard. I suspect Ford has cracked how to transfer a human mind into a host and is doing it to William who could be a hybrid since S2E1. The Door is his Maze, his path to his awakening.
@KabbalahSherry6 жыл бұрын
flying frenchman - I keep wondering about that myself! 🤔 It's like everyone has collectively forgotten that Ford was creating a mysterious extra Host body that we STILL have yet to find out who it was intended for!
@terrrrrrrrrrrrrrry6 жыл бұрын
nothing you said make sense, Ford didn't crack anything he said it him self, William is not in a host body there's no meaning for that, apart a twist we already seen before, and he is more useful as a human, the door is not the maze, the maze is how Arnold designed consciousness in the hosts not humans, even if William was in a host he would be already awake no need for no maze
@jd57876 жыл бұрын
chams eddine himeur good to see you have so much clarity and certainty when talking about a show that sends curve balls every few weeks. Ford tells what he wants you/people to know, not the truth. He is the puppet master, substituting himself to Bernard when needed etc...
@terrrrrrrrrrrrrrry6 жыл бұрын
here is the thing, the technology presented on the show, can be used to make two great achievements, creating consciousness, or making humans immortal, but you can't use it both ways at once, if you are creating consciousness and a new form of life that means you can't use them as spare parts, and if you intend to go the other way then they can't be conscious, that's why it is very important for Dolores to stop delos from achieving immortality, that's why ford destroyed the park before they succeed, he can't just make William a host it defeats the point, don't forget William is the owner, and if he is convinced that the hosts need a chance he can protect them, unless you think Dolores can defeat 7+ billion people with tanks and drones and all that, what do you think makes more sense, William going out and saying "hey we created consciousness", or "hey I am now immortal"
@tembelg.gr.44866 жыл бұрын
Creators said in s1 that he build not one specific important body but a dozens of non mesh network hosts. So my guess it was ghost nation's hosts.

Great analysis! But why is nobody talking about Bernard's different clothes inside the Cradle (8:40 --> 9:40)? It must mean something...
@christianking74356 жыл бұрын
Theory: I think just as Wyat is the antithesis of Dolores, and giving birth to a truly conscious being deciding between two opposing schools of thought at all times, so too will Ford be to Bernard. This would probably solve the cognitive plato issue nicely. Because neither will exist as we see them now. But merge into one mind. It’s poetic as well, because Ford would have truly never died. Instead becoming the very music he composed for so long.
@christianking74356 жыл бұрын
I haven’t heard anyone else push for this theory. But it makes total sense, imo.
@christianking74356 жыл бұрын
Think about it. When Bernard and Arnold acted in one being for the first ever actual time, Beethoven was playing in the background. That can’t be coincidental.
@christianking74356 жыл бұрын
Also, it seems as though Bernard’s personality has shifted dramatically somehow in the flash forward scenes.
@christianking74356 жыл бұрын
He’s more...composed in certain scenes where he otherwise wouldn’t be. And he’s still withholding some information. Even when he was being tortured. His robot self didn’t just happen to start ratting out to Delos where the key is. He has a plan of his own. This is building to his own truly conscious self. Just as it did with Deloris in season one.

The fact William is still alive confirms to me that he plays an important role at the Valley Beyond. Ford tells William that the maze was not made for him, and that the 2nd part of the game is for him. We know they can’t create a host from a persons own memories. Yet, Ford was able to create Bernard from a combination of his and Dolores memories of Arnold. Imagine how exact of a copy they could create using the memories from all the hosts from the past 30 years from his time spent at the park. “You only live as long as the last person to remember you.” Enter Grace/Emily, she maybe the last person William has in his life that knows the human side of him. We should assume we have not seen the last of her, I predict we will soon see her running fidelity tests on her father.

Regarding the grenade tease, I think that's maybe not as "out there" as it seems on the surface. It's pretty clear the calibre of mercs is not particularly high given that they basically strolled right into an obvious trap with the body pile. At the very least, there's some sense of "we're human so we're better" arrogance in play. Combine that with her just standing in the middle of the room looking vulnerable, it's not completely inconceivable he could be caught out. After all, people often do not act rationally, even when they have enough information.
@Frostliche6 жыл бұрын
I disagree. He witnessed Clementine kill like five of his guys a couple of minutes earlier, and basically his whole squad was eliminated by the hosts. I mean, his surprise at the destructive capacity of a frail looking female host was emphasized clearly, yet he doesn't recognize this other host with a gun as dangerous? On the other hand, it does kind of make sense that he would be careful to shoot in the Cradle if he knew about the explosive gas in the room.

So are we to think the control units have such a vast amount of empty space in them and to fit every single host personality profile "back up" on one control unit? I just don't buy that that is what is on there, hosts or "guests". Also Maeve is the only host who doesn't have the explosive in her spine that keeps them pinned to the park. It seems Delos could remotely trigger them if they gain full access to the network again, even if the signal that keeps them on the island is disrupted somehow. Is that why all the bodies were in the valley beyond, now a lake? I thought maybe William had a bullet proof vest in that cabin he had other stuff stashed but you can clearly see blood from his chest when he is shot. I have a feeling his daughter Emily is going to be his salvation, but it seems he would bleed out pretty quickly. Still not sold he might not be a host, I think that is the way they (show runners) like it though, LOL.

Season 1 opening credits show us machines building hosts and animals, a host hand playing a piano n then piano plays itself, it also shows us Wyatt riding a horse n shooting something ... more like events which we are discovering in season 2. What effect does the 'lobotomy' procedure have on the control unit? It doesn't make any sense to me how Abernathy and Clementine were zombified.
@haxDOGMA6 жыл бұрын
You know... I’m not sure, I mean logically the idea is they are destroying the center control unit with that drill, so I have no clue how it’s able to operate/process anything. But it’s science fiction so it could just be described as what we’re seeing. Damaged enough to not hold data/persona ever again but can walk and follow certain commands? It’s an oddity though!
@HoleDweller6 жыл бұрын
I think the lobotomy simply severs the connections between the body and the control unit. The body has a bios system, think brain stem, that maintains motor functions and network connections and can be given commands. Repairing those connections would be as simple as any other flesh wound inflicted on the hosts.

How do you figure Emily is going to rescue her father who was shot four times? Unless the MIB is a host, it would require hours of surgery and recuperation for a human to recover from four gun shots. I believe the MIB is a host but does not know he is one, just like Bernard who though he was a human. It would never work to place a human mind into a full mechanical body because the mind can't connect to the full body of a host. It is like a false arm or leg attached to a living body, the mind tries to connect to a limb that is not real.
@danwachler54806 жыл бұрын
When Ford left the cradle through Bernard, didn’t the “debugging” stop? Therefore, when Bernard is seen as “debugging” his own mind, couldn’t that be Ford’s influence?
@haxDOGMA6 жыл бұрын
The park system wasn’t debugging itself. Delos was trying to get in and Goldberg said it was like it debugged itself when Ford left the Cradle. However Ford is now inside Bernard’s mind, if Bernard has to overcome Fords control and fragments his mind to avoid Ford taking over again, than the debugging/querying itself may be Ford locked out trying to get back in, at least that’s the theory. More likely this is just caused by Fords mind degrading and causing the reported issues.
@danwachler54806 жыл бұрын
HaxDogma I was interpreting it as the cradle was being protected by Ford from hacking attempts by Delos. When Ford exited through Bernard, the protection stopped. Now Ford is protecting data from Charlotte as she interrogates him. I probably used the word debugging wrong xD Anyways, I really enjoy the smart “stepping into analysis mode” you do with these vids!

I set out to build a swarm of farming robots. Good luck only had me choose robot brains that communicate over a radio mesh network. The main advantage of mesh networks is that any pair of nodes out of range of each other are still able to communicate. How? Every message transmitted from a node contains the intended target's name within it. When a node receives a message it compares the embedded name to its own and if they are not the same then the node rebroadcasts the message. Thus the nodes may be distributed far and wide and communication will succeed so long as a target node is in radio range of any node in the network. Now, one of the nodes is connected to my PC where I develop and maintain the mind code of my robots. From my PC I am able to both download and upload the minds of the robots and anything and everything they 'experience'. So this puts me in mind of the possibility that the code in the Cradle and in the Forge (if there were also copies there) could easily be updated in real time (or close to it) so there would be no memory loss in resurrected hosts. How does that possibility affect our take on the situation? (p.s. Another advantage of mesh networks is that special purpose range extending relay stations need not be erected).

@JenniferFuss6 жыл бұрын
As a side note, as "Angela" clearly has "Angel" in its name "Engels" has Engel in its name which is German for "Angel". Maybe an explanation why he falls for her next to the power of boners XD Could as well be totally coincidence..
@haxDOGMA6 жыл бұрын
So they discuss not shooting in the Cradle because it would blow it up so the grenade was just a nice added bonus! She just needed to get some ignition to the containers and the whole place would go up! Good note on the Angel thing also, didn’t even come to mind!!

Hax Dogma, do you think that Bernard will deliver ford to the cradle at the valley beyond if indeed there it exsists?

It’s possible, but that apparently also gets destroyed so I wouldn’t count on it too heavily. No real plot progression if that was the case!

Wow excellent review! From what I gather Elsie may live, as a symbol of Bernard/Arnold's fight against Ford in his mind?!?! Thoughts? Any movement on your Elsie will die for sure theaory?
@haxDOGMA6 жыл бұрын
I’m torn on this one! I think her not being in the present with Stubbs and Bernard is really odd but if the order to kill is given to Bernard by Ford, I think he may fight it off. But at the same time, the foreshadowing from before may be showing us exactly that, Ford giving the command to kill and he does once again. 50/50!
@Skipahhhh6 жыл бұрын
HaxDogma I was convinced she was dead, seeing no two weeks ahead scenes with her (though I hoped not). I would agree Elsie's life is a toss up now... think the show planned that confusion.... Maybe killing Elsie will be the last Ford order Bernard takes, or the first he denies... Either way, weird Ford let her escape in the first place.. Thought he would kill her there.

Nice vid Hax! Really think Hale is working for a third party. Don't see William being a host (though tbh it would be cool). There's still a flicker of something between Delores and William. When old man Delos tells her to play anything but chopin, she plays The Man I love and you can make out an almost imperceptible frown on her face. Only thing I'm wondering about is why Bernard is left behind at the lake and How's China going to come in to play going forward. Really think (tin foil area) that Delos is cloning important human/Hosts and the "Key" controls these important people. Which means will get more characters going forward. Instead of Human hybrids they've put hosts within cloned bodies. perhaps its a list of hosts with their controls? Anyways (remove hats) Delores is the host/answer William has been waiting for. He hates what society is and Delores does as well. Biggest question I think that will come in to play is Williams wife's suicide and what made her do it and how it affected William. Was it Logan maybe? Was she pissed at him for dethroning him? or did she blame him for his suicide? time will tell. sorry for the long post.

I think that Bernard is the answer to the fidelity/instability issues with the human/host hybrids. I think that's what Ford is using him for.

@flying frenchman Lol, sure. I'm glad you took that as a joke, it was my intent and made me hesitate in posting it but then I thought, 'Ah well, he is a frog, after all, no one likes them anyway.' JK, again. I noticed out of all languages when using French, we end up adopting the accent too quite unlike most of the others do. There was a Dutchman I knew once, he spoke 5 different languages and yet when he used English, he did it with a French accent and said to me that even when talking Dutch, his accent appears to be French to other Dutch. "Talking in French steals your accent." He said. I believe he was correct.

Hmm… I have a question HaxDogma… Did anything in this episode advance or detract from your theory that Charlotte Hale is working for a 3rd party company? Got that body Ink done yet? LOL... I think this episode proved that she is a loyal Delos employee. One last thing. Please do a breakdown of the final episodes trailer “I Want Their World”.
@barbarajohnson14976 жыл бұрын
What do you think about Charlotte proved she is a loyal Delos employee-- please tell.
@mikebanks89006 жыл бұрын
If Charlotte was not a loyal Delos employee, she would never have divulged to Strand (via the private interrogation she had with Arnold), the exact location of where Dolores had taken Abernathy's (her Dad’s) mind control unit. But the plot theme’s of Westworld are deep waters and Reddit theorists (like HaxDogma) tend to read too much into non-sensible things.
@haxDOGMA6 жыл бұрын
I think it’s still pretty up in the air honestly! I was a little put back by how much Strand knew of the plan but she could still be manipulating him as well!

Rhee here.. I had to jack my husband's phone for this 😂 Bernard is resisting killing Charlotte. He keeps flashing on Charlotte and Charlie he is struggling. To truly be alive first you must truly suffer right? What better way for Bernard than to kill the child he thinks is already dead. That's his cornerstone for a reason.

First.....Angela ain't dead. IMDB says actor Talulah Riley is in all ten episodes this season, so expect a rebirth into a fresh, hot body. Second.....Sadly Lawrence is toast. Same for Clementine. Third......hopefully Maeve either saves her "daughter" or just gives up cuz boring and she's getting hosts killed needlessly in her quest. Her super-intelligence should have made this an easy task.
@haxDOGMA6 жыл бұрын
First, wait how would Angela come back though? Control unit is done for physically and she ensured no more backups with her sacrifice. Second, how can you say the two people who didn’t suffer physical damage to their control unit are gone? I think they could both come back, but more likely Clem than Lawrence because he’s out in the middle of nowhere. Unless Emily rolls up with a tech tablet I don’t see it haha Third, agreed. I am not invested in the daughter at all, which is why I think it will be Clem.

Angela was in an explosion though. Her sphere likely destroyed. The cradle was bombed so there’s no copy of Angela as far as we know. Clem and Lawrence’s IP is still intact because they never received a blow to the head so rebirth is more likely.

Clem is shown in a trailer for future episodes, riding a horse with Delos QA driving behind her. So she comes back, in some form, for at least that scene.

Beautiful!!! I loved Episode 7. Yet, I believe, in so many ways, that it highlights my notion that all of WW is actually a gigantic VR simulation. The "Cradle" is the key to the simulation. Yes, you see androids... who may or may not be in actual reality. You also see images of the "Cradle" computer, which may also not be in actual reality.... Again, and this amazing show would have followed logic: ANY sentient android is an existential threat against the Human species, and the entire island would have been turned to radioactive dust. What you are seeing... MiB being shot, Maeve and the others, Dolores on a rampage... all VR. Elise and Bernard, that I believe is in actual reality. :/

The interrogation of Bernard made no sense. Delores had already implied she was going to the valley beyond. Why didn't they just head there instead of tall the chit chat with Bernard ?
@overlycaffeinatedsquirrel7796 жыл бұрын
Because he didn't want to force him. Thinking Bernard would follow the plan he is given.That's frustration finally just said to give him free will he would have to take it away. Muddying water further of the what is even free will question. Since he had to force himself into Bernards head likely ends with slowly dying in a way almost akin to dementia. Instead quick death if Bernard had done what he wanted. He wanted to avoid such a fate surely, Also staying could mean hiding his mind somewhere else outside the cradle. With the system down he can't be downloaded back into the system there.

I believe one of the timelines is decades, maybe even hundreds of years in the future. I think that this accounts for the discrepancy of the Ford/Dolores timeline with Bernard. I think Bernards recollections are a loop he is running over and over again in order to come to terms with the past and set a course for the future. I don't think the select group of hosts left the island at all. I think they have been in a long and dreamless sleep in a bunker in 16/4. I'm not sure what happens to make the island uninhabitable, or to keep it quarantined from human contact in the insuing years. But this 'feels' like the only explaination for Bernard's recollections. Perhaps the line "All I know is I slept for a long time, and they I awoke" could be said hundreds of years from now? That what we are seeing in Bernard's timeline is a memory of what happened long ago and he will awaken to a brave new world with such people in it?
@haxDOGMA6 жыл бұрын
Oh! That’s pretty interesting indeed!!
@ravenlord46 жыл бұрын
If "hosts can't be killed" then why was Scarnard in such distress? Clearly he was dying, and even after being patched up he still wasn't right in the head, suffering an array of mental damage. His pearl was never physically damaged, but the hardware supporting it was. Much like a bullet riddled host body. I doubt you can just indiscriminately swap pearls with bodies. You would need an intermediate device (like the now destroyed cradle) to extract the memories from the pearl and then transfer that to a pearl that was mapped to a particular body (for motor function. Imagine a pearl of a 6 foot man placed in the host body of a 4'10' women. Talk about cognitive dissonance!) Without a cradle, I think pearls are pretty much worthless now except to be able to extract whatever basic information is stored on there, assuming it doesn't degrade over time.
@haxDOGMA6 жыл бұрын
The bullet wound punctured the thing cooling that control unit, causing all of his issues. He was dying, surely, because lack of cooling was causing real issues for the control unit. As for swapping bodies it’s unclear if it’s possible, all we have to go off of is the issues with human-mapped minds have had when transferring to a new body. I don’t think we can rule out that possibility as of yet but I do agree the shock of holy shit I’m not in my body anymore, would be a lot to handle, but never ruled as impossible (for hosts), yet. The point of the death variable is explaining how a host shot in the shoulder can “die” (defined by laying still and not moving after being shot). This isn’t a death because someone can come by and remove that variable and bring him back online, however if he was shot in the CPU, game over man.
@ravenlord46 жыл бұрын
So it looks like it depends on how badly the host is damaged if they can be resurrected without a cradle. I guess much like a human, they would have to retrieve the body and patch it back up before permanent "brain" damage starts to occur. A shoulder wound which results in a software shutdown probably gives a host a lot more time that a host which suffers a hardware compromise to pearl support. Which makes me wonder about Sakura. She did take a sword to the gut, but it didn't look much worse than what Dolores did to the Confederados before she revived them. Yet Maeve seemed to just accept that Sakura was permanently gone. If Sakura could be revived, then I'm surprised Maeve didn't offer to take the body with them to the Snow Lake bunker for a fix.
@rob-v1y6 жыл бұрын
Because Bernard shot himself in the control module. They can be killed and or permanently damaged that way. The versions of the host's in the cradle are "clean" versions. If a host is shot in the head or control unit, they can (or could) be recreated using the versions from the cradle. But those versions do not have any of the memories of the hosts many iterations.
@chachaslid36 жыл бұрын
raven lord I second your perspective on Sakura’s storyline. Maybe they felt Sakura did not have the potential to awaken or survive the coming onslaught but it was not explicitly stated and that left a lot of questions unanswered
