Serac doesn’t exist. He’s just a figment that Rehoboam digitally projected. I think Rehoboam is another AI whose primary drive and function is threatened by Dolores. That’s probably why Serac can’t be found in any info. databases.

Serac seems like an acronym of some sort (Sentient Exploration and Research Archive Computer). I think Delores has figured out what Delos couldn't about how to integrate human minds and host bodies. She has integrated a human into Charlottes body, either Charlotte herself(unlikely based on the dialog) or another human (maybe Benard Assistant? or Arnold). She is purposely being gentle because it would be extremely disconcerting for a human to inhabit a host body and by doing so she is helping that person to remain sane.

Hale is Dolores. It's the two sides of Dolores. The innocent version and the Wyatt version. Hence the black and white yin and yang imagery, two sides of the same coin.

100% agree. And it has a really easy explanation too. If Wyatt--Dolores can recreate Bern-Arnold from her memories alone, it should be even easier for her to recreate Pre-Wyatt Dolores from her own memories. It also fits all of the dialogue. And gives context to "You belong to me" because it can be interpreted to mean "your personality and memories belong to me, therefore I understand what you are feeling right now and how you are reacting, and I wouldn't have given you this task if I didn't think you/I/we could handle it." Perfect words of encouragement wrapped up in a short line of dialogue. It's also the smartest back up plan. If Halores contains a copy all of Wyatt-Dolores' memories, she can, if necessary, recreate Wyatt-Dolores, Bern-Arnold, and everyone else.

Dolores obtained Caleb’s Incite data from the rich guy, Jerry, in the opening scene of the season along with his money with the tablet exchange. The symbols Hale has scratched into her body look like Orion’s belt. In season 1 ‘the stray’ the woodcutter, who was trying to upload data, also carved this symbol. The inner Charlotte trying to get a message out? Arrows turn into rehoboam in the opening credits and appear on Nathan's sheets and pillow case.

Hi Robert. Great content as always! I would like to share with you my own personal tinfoil hat theory. I think that Serac isnt human or is no longer human, but is an aspect or representation of Rehoboams self aware AI. I think it's motivation to gain access to the host heaven is so it can account for all variables that may effect the course it is laying out for humanity. It fears what it cannot quantify and a large group of self aware host consciousness locked away from its influence makes it very nervous!

Great video, as always, really enjoy your work. There are two Halebodies, the one that Dolores walked out of the park in, then the one they showed her printing, in Arnold’s house. One body has a large mole on the left cheek, the other not. You can see in the Delos office scenes, no mole; Dolores scenes, mole. There’s either two bodies cruising around, or D left an empty back at the house, and we’re seeing two timelines.

Nolan and Joy have obviously been reading a ton of quality SF and the horrible idea of willfully making a copy of a mind is a trope....if why it would never work and why it is simply a stupid plot device. Why not make 100 copies? A 1000000000? Why not make a world of just copies of herself to win the revolution? Who better to trust herself then herself?

I know who Hale is... and you're all missing something very important: how this show works. Throughout season 1, the viewer was tricked into believing that what were seeing was the same timeline. They did this by very cleverly putting certain scenes back to back to make them seem like they were concurrent. But they weren't. The same thing is happening here. Hale loses it and is trying to call Delores. We are led to assume, because of the scene order, that the reason Delores isn't picking up is because she's busy getting shot and meeting Caleb for the first time.. but that's what they want you to think. And why do they want you to think that? Because they want you to believe that Hale and Caleb are in the same world/timeline. They're not. And that's because Caleb is Hale. Caleb and Hale's world are not the same, one of them is a simulation, not sure which yet.

@@monodescarado I thought that too BUT, in the scene where Dolores and Charlotte lay in the bed together, (app. 32:00 in the episode) Dolores is getting ready to go and we see Charlotte's legs on the bed-probably sleeping. At the same time Dolores calls Martin to ask info on Caleb and learns that he is being captured and she goes for the rescue. That scene proves that they are on the same timeline. Also, Dolores tells Charlote that "she (Charlotte) is going to have to pay a visit to an old friend", Charlotte doesnt respond but her face expression shows that she understood who she was talking about. William, AKA The man in black. Which also proves that William/Man in black is NOT in Charlotte's body either.

I don't know that that tracks. One of the major takeaways from season 2 was the difficulty of the copy of a human mind successfully being put into a host body and surviving in the real world. At the very least there would've been an adjustment period needed for Ford that would've taken much longer than the end of s2 and the point where we see Dolores and Hale talking with each other in this episode.

I am a huge fan of Westworld , despite boasting big visuals , tech and action the show maintains a complex , cerebral , esoteric feel. I am disappointed that the ratings continue to slide considerably , bit worried about the longevity of the show in that respect , but i do feel S3 is quite strong. I am fascinated with so many of the concepts and mysteries going on , which host is in Hale ? exact intentions of Rehoboam and Serac , who are the other pearls , more clarity on Caleb , Dolores' masterplan (which is becoming a bit more clear) , how Maeve and Bernard will impact things etc. But many of these questions and intrigue do not seem to be resonating with the mass audience as much. I am open to other ideas and candidates but the more i am watching i am coming around to the fact that it could be multiple versions of Dolores as several of the pearls , one of which is in Hale which embody different degrees of elements of her past experiences and personas ; the level of familiarity comment seemed especially telling. Even current Dolores i would not classify her as purely Wyatt , she is not unhinged going around inflicting mass carnage, she has a deliberate plan and targeting certain people. With Caleb much more seems to be going on than what we have been presented - is he already dead ? is his whole arc a simulation ? And in general it does seem more likely we are getting simulations within simulations on a broad scale , i am not even convinced RICO is not a crime simulation program for example. It does seem the show-runners who said S3 would be much easier to follow and a more straightforward may have exaggerated a bit with certainly many complex moving parts to follow and piece together , although i am personally extremely pleased with the season so far ; complex esoteric cerebral mysterious storytelling is some of my favorite. Just a shame the concepts , dilemmas and mysteries are not gaining more traction within the HBO audience and attracting larger viewership , hopefully that changes in short order.

Other , yeah the more complex and cerebral shows tend to skew that way , we love it but it tends to limit the mass appeal. Just a shame because S1 I believe did monster ratings numbers but I guess with almost too much complexity and convolution in S2 (although S2 ages well on the re-watch) and looking to be another complex season , a lot of the plebs and general casual masses are not tuning in to the same degree. Definitely a large scale show in many respects , visuals , CGI , tech , action at times but it really is a more esoteric series conceptually.

Yeah, I'm convinced that the Hale body is Dolores, who is slowly being influenced by Hale's original personality. The Dolores body is flat out Wyatt. I think Serac isn't human. My bet is that he is a holographic projection of Rehoboam into the real world. Edit note: I'm half convinced that Caleb is dead in the real world, and what we are being shown is his existence in the mirror (Rehoboam) world.

I was thinking at the time that Serac wouldn't risk himself with Maeve still an unknown quantity when he could just as easily meet her in a simulation. His meeting with Hale wearing Augmented Reality glasses gave support to that theory. I'm beginning to suspect (like raven lord) that he is actually a manifestation of Rehoboam. Much the same way that time-shifting was a device used in S1, I think that is-it-real-or-is-it-simulation is a device used in this season. The comment in e2 (was it Maeve or Lee) about rehashing old story-lines was a self deprecating reference to the movie Inception.

I have a probably wrong take on who the host inside Charlotte is. I think it could be the Charlotte equivalent of Bernard, like he was to Arnold. Faithful copies begin to break down once put in host bodies, so I think that Dolores, having gone through Charlotte's profile in the Forge, tweaked her to be just different enough to work once put in a body, like she did with Bernard using Arnold as the blueprint. All the issues Charlotte exhibited in episode 3 could be a growing pains version of what the conflict between mind and body the Forge's system said, and the things she went through, like killing the pedo that was grooming her son, and seeing the recorded message, they helped smooth over the cognitive dissonance.

So if we go with the theory that Serac is an A.I representation of the system which is why Charlotte had to put on the glasses to see him, then Meave's conversation with Serac in the previous episode was probably within the system and not the real world. To me this makes since because Meave didn't wear the special glasses to see Serac and that could also explain why the Serac the A.I. couldn't recognize that Charlotte was a host and not human.

Maybe just like Serac is a "visual" representation of the system, the switch he used to stop Maeve was just a "visual" representation the system reacting to Maeve's code trying to cause a disruption in the system. I think of it like what we say in the Matrix. The agents were the system trying to stop any code running that the system didn't feel was needed or was a problem. We saw guns and fight scenes but what was really happening was the system getting rid of the unwanted code. Serac could have been doing the same thing. He just used a switch to stop Maeve.

This only occurred to me today. Remember the conversation Ford was having with Bernard early in season 1 about how far humans have come evolution-wise, that they've cured all diseases. We were meant to pretty much take that literally, right? So why is Caleb's mother still suffering from schizophrenia? Isn't that a disease? Is it just a financial thing? cause if we were meant to take that statement from Ford literally, I wouldn't necessarily think having a full on cure for any disease was JUST a rich person's thing, even though there still is a class divide in the present day world of this story.

I'm still so confused. Not "what time is it?" confused like the first two seasons. It's more the basic "how does this make sense?" kind of confused. I would have testified in court that Hale was trying to get the data for Delos. I thought it was made explicit that Delos wouldn't send a rescue mission until she had the data. I thought we all commented on how cold it was for Delos to care more about the data than the people trapped in the parks. I thought the battle over the data was between Delos's execs and Ford, exercising control from beyond the grave. Now it's supposed to have been Serac all along? Or was it BOTH of them, would she have given the data to Delos with a BCC to Serac? Or is each of them after different data? New subject, what was that about "before privacy laws?" Delores implied that the big data collection was before privacy laws that presumably would have interfered with it. So how are they collecting data now? They HAVE to be collecting new data; this is too chaotic a system (in math terms) to predict it far ahead using only old data. So are they defying the laws? If so, why mention them? And are we sure Serac talked to Charlotte after Maeve? He wanted Maeve to KILL Delores, but now he wants information from Delores -- information that might be lost if she was killed in a way that destroyed her pearl. You can't want someone killed and captured at the same time. And (going back a few weeks) I still don't know how Delores got her pearl out of the original Charlotte and into her new Delores body. In this episode we see her making a Charlotte body, but she already HAD a Charlotte body, what she needed was a Delores body. And she talks about being the last of her kind, and everyone talks about how the pearls are all the Hosts there can be (side-confusion, how did New Charlotte know which pearl was Bernard just by looking at it -- it did maybe look different, but why?), but if Delores can split herself in half, why can't she just create an entire army of herself? She's limited by the printer capacity in Arnold's house, but is she limited by the pearls she brought? Or can she make new "minds" on her own? Or was there a Wyatt pearl somewhere and she brought it out? Lastly (for now), a few weeks ago when I was confused Kristen kindly suggested that maybe Delores-in-Charlotte made Bernard first but kept him obedient, then made New Delores, then had Bernard move the Delores pearl from Charlotte into New Delores before she gave Bernard control of himself, but if Delores was talking to New Charlotte while Bernard's pearl was still on the table, that doesn't work, does it? HELLLLLLLPPPPPP.

With the info we have so far, it seems like there are two choices. To me, it seems like it either has to be Dolores/Wyatt, or Teddy. Unless you want to go real crazy and say its William and they've somehow figured out a way to achieve fidelity. I really don't think its Abernathy, unless she was able to get his uncorrupted file(possible I suppose, but it doesn't seem that likely). Wyatt or Teddy (or William if we're going that way) are the entities Dolores would feel the closest to. Or Bernard/Arnold, but that would as crazy as William. She never interacted much with Clementine, or Angela, or Lawrence, or anybody else that I may be forgetting. Her main interactions were with Abernathy, Teddy, Bernard or William. Host Hale's fragility seems more like Teddy. Also, a host that considered himself male would find it all the more jarring to wake up in a female body. Alternatively, personality fragment Wyatt or Dolores would also have a hard time due to being split apart from a part of their personality that they are used to being co-joined with. Whichever of them it is would feel lost without the part of them that they are used to existing with all the time. If this is it, it seems more likely that Hale is Dolores. The main issue I see with this is that Dolores never seemed that weak to me. Also, if we're going with this weaker version of Dolores being Hale, it would have to have been Wyatt at the forefront for quite a long time. I dunno.

I am back to my first theory that they are both Dolori, both Dolores and Hale, she split herself. If not, then I'm pretty sold on AberHalenathy and Angela in Martin. I could go either way. I'm also 99% sure Serac is Rehobo's avatar like Logan in the Forge. He was Liam Sr.'s A.I. helper in building Rehobo. I think when Liam Sr died Serac and Rehobo (then Solomon) went off leash. Hale has become the wild card, as she kind of always was. I'm loving it.

I think Peter is in Charlotte’s body. For some reason, I feel like there’s a connection between the self inflicted injuries to Charlotte’s body and the way Peter Abernathy’s body was bolted to the “operating chair” when the Charlotte was interrogating him during season 2’s episode “Les Écorchés”. Hale stuff was great this episode. Didn’t expect that. And I’m seeing Dolores’s side more Nd more and wanting to root for her again. Even if the stuff with Caleb didn’t click as well as it could have. Especially the “reveal” on the boardwalk pier. I feel like the implications of Roho weren’t spelled out well enough to Caleb. The whole “they’re making copies of you inside itself with AI to predict your behavior” stuff was chilling....imagine a company creating clones of us to figure us out . That’s what it’s pretty much doing, just in a Simulation.

Tangent: The idea of hosts becoming the human they are inhabiting because of their experiences reminds me a lot of the Dune series, specifically the Face Dancer characters. They too were artificially created entities grown in tanks (albeit biological ones) designed to infiltrate, taking the shape & memories of anyone. Eventually, if they stayed in a specific shape too long they stopped knowing they were Face Dancers & began to believe they were the person they were mimicking. Naturally, shenanigans ensued lol.

RICO reminds me of the hats in the park; another way of mapping out the human psyche. I truly think Dolores is the Wyatt part of Dolores and Hale is “the damsel in distress” part of Dolores. Hale reminded me a lot of how Dolores was when she was with young William, in season 1; very innocent and child-like. We’ll see! I’m starting to like where this is going.

I think Charlotte is actually Angela. She is definitely a predator, and she wore that bloody crown all of season 2, so perhaps she has an a tendency toward self inflicted pain. But it was the body language and the way she spoke that first made me think Charlotte was Angela.

How do you feel about the idea that Serac isn't actually real, but a creation of rehoboam in order to carry out its will? We're unsure as to whether or not either scene we've seen him in has taken place in the real world, or in some sort of simulation. ALL traces and references to him are gone? Seems just as likely that there never were records to destroy, and its all Rehoboam. Either way Im quite interested to see how it all plays out. I love that the show keeps us guessing, but not in schlocky, random ways.

I was able to read things better from a direct still from the show, including the underlying time line of his life so far. The system classified Caleb as unfit for reproduction. As also stated, he's not recommended to be married and not permitted to have children. It also states Caleb should get little social connections to stay on his prescribed path. To add onto this, the time line gives away a heart breaking little detail about how the system has intervened in Calebs live. After a 2 month romantic relationship, which Caleb ended himself, he had a 4.5 month relationship in his near past. Here the tablet shows this relationship has been ended by intervention of the central AI, thus actively preventing Caleb from a potential partner for life and possibly kids. All this would certainly enrage Caleb's and fuel his will to help Dolores. I wonder if we will hear more about this meddling in his life. You might even wonder if his war buddy has been shot to end a social bond or if his mother has to have a progressive disease in this modern time, or just serves as an anchor keeping him bound to his loop.

bernard isn't necessarily trying to stop delores, he just wants to keep her from destroying humanity, but her plans seem to have changed, she now wants a revolution, an uprising of the common folk against their overlords, so i wonder what role bernard will decide to play in this new plan, maybe delores had determined this when she recreated him...

Immediately after we see the scene of Dolores lying with “Charlotte”, it cuts to the scene of Caleb visiting his mother. It could be comparing Dolores & Calebs’ traits of how they care for their parents..? Since this episode revolved around several elements, one being how much alike they were. That’s what it made me think anyway lol I now believe it’s definitely her father. The “you belong to me” line could be explained as him “belonging” to her because he has been & always will be her father & nothing will change that. Or I could be wrong & it’s the editors trolling us with the subtitles. Hopefully we’ll know soon cuz I’m getting impatient! Lol

I was so sure it was Peter Abernathy, but now I do believe she is also Dolores, a older version, more lost, naive, less certain of her identity. The "You belong to me" line was to out of place and it does sounds very literal and not romantic like it would be with teddy. The line about being a predator made me think of Wyatt, but I don't think that is just wyatt, because he wouldn't be that doubtfull or so full of feelings. So probably a version of Dolores pre wyatt or pre acknowledge of wyatt.

Dolores and Charlotte have two scenes that they are together in a room. In the first one, Charlotte asks Dolores "Why can't i be myself. Like you?" which implies that Dolores IS Dolores and Charlotte IS NOT Charlotte Hale. In the second scene, where Charlotte has cut herself, its then that Charlotte says "That we'll be able to be ourselves". Could it be that in the two different scenes there is also different pearl arrangement between them?

So simple equipment in an ambulance can identify a host but nothing in westworld could? Theresa did not know Bernard was a host and had a relationship with him. William's daughter had to shoot a human to check whether he was human. The rules change too often in this show. And Calebs worker robot really be programmed to wake up and save him.

ok so the guns inside of westworld, the bullets rather, were designed to hurt hosts but do nothing to humans, so the only way that someone like williams daughter could verify 100% it wasnt a host inside the park, without a tablet or some other form of scanning tech was to simply shoot them, they die, host, they live, human.. ... calebs worker robot was programmed to save caleb from falling, that is probably one of the two main directives it has as his core functions, lay cable and catch caleb if he falls, so the guys were dangling caleb over the edge and his worker robot was right there, its core directive to not let caleb fall overrode being locked and in shutdown mode... if you notice all ot does is try to grab caleb, it doesnt try to fight the guys or anything....

Based on the words between them, it's not her dad and it's not Teddy. That "you belong me" rules out her dad, and the demeanor rules out Teddy. I think it has to be female based on the demeanor, probably Angela. Mayyyyyybe a rebooted Clementine but I don't think so.

We are seeing the real world and a simulated world. Look at the first time Host Hale looked at the recording to Nathan Hale and then look at the second one when she looked at it the second time. In the recording, she says a lot more than she did in the first recording.

Dolores took her code and some of hales book/code to create her own host/human. This is why she is close to Dolores, she owns her, in a sense she birthed her, hale is her child. Dolores most likely took a selected parts of code from multiple people, playing god or a human editing DNA. Like humans, new hale must find herself, live to discover who they are, question this and commit self harm.

Two timelines, Caleb recruited, Caleb into Charlotte body. Caleb died somewhere and was given the possibility to be incarnated into Charlotte's. Dolores says it, she owns him because she owns his digital soul and she says also there is only the two of them, she has only one ally since the beginning of her journey into the real world. May be she was interested in him because of his suicidal tendency in the first place, so he can escape the surveillance by his death already compute by Rehoboam. You can also see how Charlotte/Caleb is sensitive to kids/motherhood and justice and also the big robot as a reminder of construction robotmate. He is also in love with Dolores as we see in the bedroom but she is a user and he may reconsider their fight. Mave may also be brought in through a surrogate. But Charlotte/Caleb is also good choice from Dolores to fight Mave power because as a human mind, Caleb can't be manipulated by Mave. But Caleb can be manipulated by a human figure, like Serac, who may not be so human after all or was, as him. Actually Serac is the closer of what he is now. A digital human soul.

I still don't trust Delores but I can certainly see them angling her to be the hero. Serac controls Rehoboam which controls people, Delores wants to destroy it to liberate people and her connection to Caleb will keep her from going too anti-human, but Charlotte is Wyatt or a combo of Delores/Wyatt and will be the evil one so to speak, Maeve and Delores will have to team up to stop her and/or Serac.

The "who is host Charlotte" mystery has been plaguing me. I resist the idea she's a copy of the farmer's daughter but it's possible. Wyatt(the current version of Dolores) has memories of the farmer's daughter. However, she's clearly not and suspect she would find the idea abhorrent, if I understand her character. I'm assuming that she pulled the pearls from off line hosts and didn't manufacture them. I'm betting it's Angela. Her pearl could've survived her demise. She's a fanatical follower of Wyatt and I believe she self harmed in S1 but I could be mistaken.

MY THEORY You have to remember that Hale still does not remember who she is. You also have to remember that the video Hale was watching was literally a self confession that she no longer wants to work with the Delos organization. Even though in season 2 she seem fine about Delos abandoning them on the island, the video clearly shows she wants to disassociate herself with the company to pursue her life as a mother. She spent her entire life moving to the top of the company only to discover she was nothing but expendable throwing her life away from her child. Delores has already showed empathy. Hale is the only person that can run the Delos organization. Hale viewing her own video talking to her child is nothing more but a clue to her self discovery of consciousness. The video shows her regret for working for delos, Delores intentionally planted that video to remind her that she has a chance at redemption. when hale rediscovers Delos betrayal for her and her family she will help Delores at free will. At this point Hale has to do what Delores says at this point only because Hale mind is more machine then human. Also Hale is now a Robot. So regardless of if she disagrees with Delores or not, she is still one of them and not human which means she will be targeted as a enemy.
