Thank you for pointing out the letterbox Bernard/Dolores scene. I think I figured it out. It's the second clue that Dolores uploaded Arnold's memories into Bernard. The first was when Bernard ran a self diagnostic at the mesa hub, and one of the images that flashed was of Arnold bringing Dolores online for the first time in episode 1.10. I'm also going with a guess that it's the process of uploading Arnold's memories that changes Bernard's black pearl to a reddish pearl. This doesn't turn Bernard into James Delos--even with Arnold's memories, he's not a direct copy of Arnold. There is only one reason I can see that Dolores would give Bernard Arnold's memories--so Bernard can recreate Dolores after she and all of her copies are destroyed. Everyone has a role to play--he's her back up and restore function. Also the reason they can't save their species working as friends. She needs to make sure he's not involved with her mission or he could be destroyed with her. Also the flashback to Charlie is a reminder of why hosts, and Dolores meant so much to Arnold--they became his children after Charlie died. Bernard keeps running diagnostics to see if Dolores tampered with him. She did--but not in some technical subroutine. She knows Arnold loved her like his own child and she gave Bernard enough of Arnold's memories so he would find those feelings of love for her when the time came. When Dolores dies, Bernard will realize the sacrifices she made and he will want to recreate her. Genius plan, genius tugging at the hear strings story telling.

Her current mission appears to be to destroy Rehoboam and Serac, the technological caste system that enslaves humanity. Evan Rachel Wood & the showrunners say as much in interviews. The question is whether such freedom from the system is a good or bad thing for humanity.

If the Wyatt portion of her code is what leads to her being destroyed, Bernarnold can recreate Dolores 2.0 without the Wyatt subroutine. That's entirely consistent with the show runners writing style.

two things you might have missed, the part where Bernard was telling Delores he never finished the house was clearly in a simulation... look at the black bars on top and bottom. Secondly the kid that looks at Bernard at the motel looks like young Ford. Anyways, been waiting for this video for a while keep up the amazing work!

Okay Hax, I have a question and this has confused me all season, (well really the last 2 episodes, and especially this one)... William... didnt the end of season 2 hint he was a host (much like this last episode),,but his loop for fidelity testing was in the far future, i.e. wherever/WHENever he was, all in ruins (which I also thought coincided with Serac's Paris flashback maybe?) But this last episode, at least I think which is where my confusion comes in, hints that William is still human and hiding out or whatever, for committing murder, of his daughter nonetheless, from society. So why at the end is he locked up in a psych ward? Does it even matter, does his not knowing if he is a host or not (if he is even doing that cuz this season is REALLY confusing me, too much even...) warrant his craziness and lock up? Sorry if my question in itself is confusing, I'm just not understanding William's role so far this season, especially in light of the very end of season 2,,i.e. his own quest for fidelity, which of course is what a host with a human mind transferred in it has to go through.... I really hope you get/read this comment cuz you're the best breaker downer of Westworld and if anyone can help clear the smoke for one of your fans, it's you!

hehe I was gonna let it slide, since we chatted already. I'm coming around to the idea that it DOES measure the severity of a divergence rather than anything to do with the physical location of the incident. Traditionally, arc minutes/seconds are a measure of angular distance or movement. If Serac and Rehoboam consider timelines to be a branching tree, then within WW the arc minute represents the vector of the branched timeline. This would be useful to an entity who is mapping decision trees ...

Yeah, that's what I thought too because back in season 1 Ford said to Bernard that the last happy memory he ever had was when he was running through the fields with his brother and now see Serac's memories of him running through a field with his brother. Maybe his brother is Serac after all and over time they grew apart due to ideological differences on free will??

Some KZbinr or a behind the scenes for the show pointed out that people going through a field symbolizes their last happy memory and foreshadows to them being woken up or gaining consciousness. For example, the other times we've seen the use of a field to be used for symbolism was back in season 1 when Maeve's memories of her daughter were starting to resurface. Another example, was when Ford was running through the field with his brother.

Yeah, I can see that foreshadowing to that as well, but I also think there's a deeper meaning behind the blood being poured onto the white. White symbolizes purity and innocence and that particular white substance is also used to create the hosts. As for red symbolizes lust, life, or....... since this show heavily references to the Bible it could refer to Jesus becoming a matyr so Heaven can open up for God's children because blood symbolizes matyrs as well. Furthermore, Maeve who actually has the name Eve in her name; who is mother of all in the Bible, is in fact the one who sacrifices herself to save everyone from damnation and gives them freedom whereas Dolores wakes up the world to consciousness. Also, Serac is trying to find the Sublime which is referred to by the writers as a sort of heaven. Ford created Maeve by the way and he did say she was his favorite so obviously she has a major purpose to the overall story.

I just assumed that it was Dolores’ way of saying ‘this is the end of your story’ thinking she had finally defeated him by having him locked away where he can no longer hurt her or interfere with her plans. I think Bernard’s pearl has the encryption key and him staying out of Serac’s crosshairs is his purpose. Hale-ores 1.0 must have created him first so that he could extract her pearl and make copies of it onto the other 4 pearls. Then he recreated Delores using her original pearl (i think Delores would want to be herself with her original pearl). Then Dolores finishes Hale-ores 2.0, erases some of Bernard’s memory and sends him on his way. She creates Emily-ores to drive William crazy. We see her play out her plan and create Martin-ores. I’m not convinced that Maeve is happening in the same timeline as everyone else. I think she and Musashi-ores may be further in the future after Dolores has had some success and Serac is playing catch-up. I think Emily-ores will be reused in a different body later, now that William is in the insane asylum. I also think the pin-prick in William’s neck was implanting a communication device so she can further torment him.

I also wondered why Maeve should be able to control electronics in the real world when she's only demonstrated the ability to control hosts in Westworld-and that only because Ford gave her the ability.

16:11 Everyone’s made the mistake of thinking that *all* the 5 pearls (other than Bernard) are Delorii, but so far only 4 have been revealed: one pearl is yet unaccounted for. People are also mistaking which host contains Delores-prime. If you think it through, it makes more sense for Delores to keep herself in Hale’s body, because: 1. that’s where she’s safest as Hale has a real identity, whereas all the others are fictional and must remain permanently hidden from the authorities. 2. Serac is hunting Delores...he knows she’s made it out of the park, so any host that looks like Delores has a target on its back. 3. Transferring herself from Hale back into Delores comes with risk of failure, and impractical waste of time and resources. 4. It serves no purpose other than vanity and Delores (especially as Wyatt) is beyond that as it is a human trait. If the writers want plot twists then having an unexpected identity for the 5th pearl and Hale being Delores-Prime are perfect.

Yes, but Dolores hallucinated young William being with her when she was trying to reach full consciousness in season 1. Maybe Dolores did say that to William at one point in his life, but he is hallucinating it now since his mind is starting to reach consciousness. Also, Dolores said to William "it looks like you've reached the center of your maze". Then William asked "Am I real?" with Dolores responding "Welcome to the end of the game".

1:31 okay I don't think this is necessarily anything more than just continuing a thematic point visually in the series (so not truly key to the plot) but the shape of the guest room here for the "Mesa Gold Resort" jumps out at me. As there are obviously several of those rooms, but given the curvature of the walls it would seem to suggest that putting many all grouped together would basically be able to result combined in a giant circle. The same shape of the observation room that they had the host James Delos in last season for his fidelity testing.

great video! love how you expand on the episode and always give good thinking points. I've been wondering how Dolores could have created the first copy without help. Bernard's pearl was out of body so it couldn't have been him. Does she have a secret assistent? I also think it's possible Dolores has hidden the final copy of herself. in case all other Dolori get destroyed, at least this one will be guaranteed to survive. Her biggest mistake this season has been to establish a hierarchy among the Dolori. Even in a pack of her own making, she acts like a lone wolf. Instead of a symbiotic relationship that works together, they are subordinates and OG-Dolores only takes and takes. I think she alone has the key and the insight/manipulation over technology furthering her superiority. It's naive of her to take for granted they'll all stay the same, even with little contact to each other. We are shaped by our memories and it's especially noticeable in Hale-lores, living the life of the enemy with barey any contact, left alone by the "hive". Her journey will be very interesting and I think in the end she'll demand to be recognized as just as important as OG-Dolores, to be acknowledged as her own person with value outside the hive

16:25 Good observation that the emotions of each of the Delorii are different. People have speculated that Delores may have separated Wyatt and Delores into two separate hosts. But, this would be a tactical mistake, because for the best chance of winning, she really needs multiple Wyatts to exist. So how to explain Hale’s more sensitive nature? If she’s a Wyatt/Delores copy, then it could be the symptom of a split personality when at those sensitive times its the Delores side coming out, but when she’s torturing William that’s clearly more Wyatt. When we consider the identity of the last pearl (as yet not revealed), it would make sense for it to be the original Delores. Because if Wyatt is successful in carving out a world for hosts, then clearly Wyatt wants a place for Delores to live in. Note: it may not be a simple process to detach Wyatt from Delores, therefore the last pearl could be the original Delores before Ford added Wyatt. That Delores would free of any memories of what transpired (the killing etc which she would deplore) and crucially free of any guilt.

I just realized something. I was rewatching episode 03, where Dolores brings back Charlotte online. If you notice when Dolores puts Bernard's pearl on the tablet, the pearl is on the left side of the tablet. In all scene of Westworld that I can remember the pearl was always placed on the right side of the tablet. Maybe this is a hint directors left for us that indicates the mirror world! Could this be the case?!

15:58 It only makes sense for Delores to play the game with a William-host, if he is a faithful reproduction i.e. with William’s true consciousness, because there’s no point torturing anything else as it won’t really be William and she would be wasting her time (assuming vengeance is her goal). But, we know from the cut scene at the end of season 2, when Emily tests William for fidelity that they’ve been unsuccessful way into the future. Therefore William must be human or... ...she’s messing with his consciousness in the Forge or somewhere similar. After all, they would need to have uploaded his consciousness somewhere like that while they work on getting a stable host version of him working.

Welcome to the end of the game, which is what Dolores said, and Welcome to the endgame mean 2 very different things. The endgame is the part of the game where stakes are highest. Every move is do or die, whereas the end of the game means the game is over and now you're facing reality.

Great insights both in the video and the comments. To me, this episode is the end of one epic chapter/book: Dolores vs William. Caleb is far more centered as a person than the naive young William. His attraction to "Classic" Dolores is evolving fast, never anything like the William's outright fantasies. The arc is looking like some kind of awakening for Caleb at season end, while the Dolori fight it out with google. In 4 episodes Caleb is now the most developed character in the series, despite human simpliciites, and CharDor's inexplicable self doubt and empathies. The end of season 2 was "untied" to say the least, and E4 was like: you want it tied up? Watch this. What's missing is a Ford/Old Wiliam adversary as the french guy is a total lightweight by comparision with either, but maybe that is now the Dolori and Caleb is the virgin Dolores slowly waking up. I'm loving it, espcially with Hax to save me the trouble of pausing on all the ipads :) The series holds, even gains relevance in our own fast changing "reality".

What if we've just been watching Rohoboam get things wrong? I can go along with a lot of things, but no way is Musashi a Delores host. Maybe he's just part of a sim trying to figure Maeve out since Rohoboam/Serac already guessed wrong about her once. And if this is all a sim, Delores might not actually be cloned into all the other host bodies. What if it's Rohoboam that expects her to trust no one but herself. It still gets humans wrong (divergences) with extensive personal data on them, but lacks complete Delos data. It probably wouldn't be able to predict, let alone understand, how and why hosts have become sentient and what they'll do with that freedom of thought. (I like the Delori though, and hope to see an epic battle against herselves in the end.) Even if Delores is in the hosts exactly as we've been shown, there's still at least one more pearl out there, if not more. Who is #6? What are they doing? Is it another mental copy of Delores? Is it another physical copy of Delores? Just how many people does Delores have the data for stored in her main pearl anyway (from the books in the cradle)? Beyond Delores, can we discuss the oddity of what is essentially a pause-button for hosts? A physical, single function, click me, big clunky button (Serac's looks like a joystick and Bernard's looks like a car alarm remote). Really? In this sleek, advanced tech world? Serac and Bernard both creating the similar ridiculous things, too? Is this another example of Rohoboam offering the simplest, but ultimately wrong conclusion? The only other way it makes sense for me is if Arnold made something like it back in the day and it was part of the early bit of tech data Serac got. That way, both men making it now would be somewhat plausible. Timelines are always a question in this show, but the use of old tech seems deliberate. So Maeve can't hack it? So it can go undetected? Or just something Rohoboam has in its arsenal of extensive info and used it in a sim despite the tech being outdated because Rohoboam is intelligent, but not necessarily wise?

My theories change almost every week, so let me play along today. I don't think MIB has gone insane at all. I think pearls can be added to different host bodies however Dolores requires. So I think at the time Maeve was shown 5 icons, the 3 females at that time were Dolores, Charlotte... And William's daughter. I think this was how she was able to trick him into thinking he was going crazy. But I'm convinced (at least this week, anyway!) that MIB will return to sinister form xxx

I think it was Bernard - under Ford's command - who created Hale-ores. Dolores's pearl inside a Hale Host. But Hale shot Bernard dead - manufactured pearls, and carried the red pearl outside of the park.

Qarymee Presents Yes it looks like the 5th pearl with the red tinge is Bernard+? But I was on about the other 4 plus Hale-oris would make 5 potential Delori. We are lead to believe Hale is a copy of Deloris as she’s was having a bit of an identity wobble in ep2. Maybe she is the original? If so, maybe her identity crisis is due to her having more contact with humans outside the park and now sees a better side to humanity? It’s just a theory. After all it’s a human trait, to have doubts and change and that’s where Rehoboam is failing.

“Dolorii” and “host milk.” 🤣 Epic expansions to the Hax Dogma Westworld namespace. Nobody does it better, my friend. I resisted the “Many Dolorii” Theory because I felt it created unnecessary complexity but Pandora’s Box has flung open and I was clearly wrong. Now I’m truly unclear on what it is that “Dolores Prime” really wants. See what I did there? 😎 This also really makes me question her true motives with respect to Caleb. It was much easier to imagine Dolores as a leader-liberator but if all the humans are pawns and all the hosts are avatar aspects of under her control, what’s the real mission? Just straight up payback? Seems petty and even a bit small-minded in the scheme of things. We are missing another big reveal (perhaps more than one) for this to make sense. Right now, to be honest, I’m a bit confused about what’s really up. This is the first time in my entire time watching this series that I’ve ever felt like that.

I fully believe everything she's doing is a manipulation of the hosts and people around her for a plan only she knows, and it will lead to her favored result because it appears she has more information than we do. I really think it doesn't end well for her though and another Dolorii will become prime when everything is said and done! :D

Is Dolores trying to show him the door in the mental hospital? He wouldn't have to be a host, just in need of free will.

I haven't read everyone's comments here but I took "Welcome to the end game" to be an acknowledgement that William is a host version of himself and his conversations with his daughter being part of the bicameral mind process for him. His center of the maze. Now he can begin to get himself out of what has been planned for him, Dolores is going to enjoy seeing what his role is, or maybe she is just gloating I don't know.

Hey Hax, I've seen people suggest that even though hes already going bonkers that she is adding something to make him go more bunkers or continuously bonkers which assumes that either she already had something to do with it Or she is interfering . What if Dolores is actually adding something to make him feel better, Curing the man in black to the best of her abilities finally clearing him up to find his way through the maze. I kind of just believe she was taking but I haven't seen anybody consider that she was helping himIn some small way said that he would increase his pain over time

I had been thinking for awhile that Ford was trying to get Arnold back by causing the suffering of Bernard. Bernard was the Ford controlled host, once he became conscious he became Arnold again. Ford says "Goodbye, my old friend"

Delores might be setting up Caleb to be the fall guy. The shot seemed to focus on the cloth he wiped his hand with. She can also probably alter surveillance like Lena Waithe's character from ep1, so the footage would only have Caleb in it.

After a second watch of the episode I'm starting to think that the third female host printed was Emily and she really was tormenting William, and she's not a figment of his imagination. After all I don't think William referred to her by name during their scenes yet HaleBot knew it was her she was talking to. I'm also not 100% convinced the Dolores visiting William in his cell at the end of the episode was a figment of his imagination either.

I wonder if part of the thing that adds to the trouble Serac is having, in addition to there being 5 Dolori out there - because it's not just it being Dolores and Maeve...he said in an episode that he knew they were coming - is maybe the addition of Caleb to the situation? That he's a human he can't really track because he's going against the "path" designed for him now...that could explain why he wants that human data from Delos even more...because he feels like he's missing something about HUMAN nature that would help Rehoboam...that if Caleb can move off his path, MORE humans could do the same, and THAT is what can mess with things even more. Just my theory. ;)

But even with the Delos info, that still only pertains to the actions of rich people, not all people. I mean, that data will still be incomplete in terms of predicting the future. I think this is why Caleb was chosen - he's off the grid in more ways than one. It also makes me question if getting Delos' info is really Serac's goal....

I agree...I'm not 100% sure of what Serac's end goal is, I think he's got a lot of things that he wants. I think he wants to get the human data to help rehoboam and the Host data to destroy it. But, that seems pretty basic for WW, lol, so I'm sure there will be way more to it. And, yeah, Dolores probably did pick Caleb because he was off the radar, that's another reason why I think he could be part of what is messing with Serac.

MIB has hallucinations all through this episode so it wouldn't be a stretch to say that he hallucinated Dolores as well. She didn't give him an answer because a; she didn't know because he didn't know as she was just a figment of his mind OR b; because asking the question is what sets the game in motion. I was thinking the same thing about Emily being the fifth Dolores based upon dialog and plot. The only way to truly manipulate William and have the outcome where she can take his shares is to be Emily and force him to think he has lost his mind. She is manipulating him in a way we will only find out about soon. The five pearls that Dolores brought with her were all Dolores. Bernard is another pearl or he was recreated completely from Dolores memory of him and that code was built by Ford. I also think that there are far more hosts in the world after three months than we know about. The fact that there are barrels upon barrels of host goo means that Dolores has already begun building an army with the Yakuza. Nice catch with the look Caleb gave, it seems he is questioning what he has gotten himself into but we haven’t seen too much interaction between Dolores #1 and him. Well done. It is hard to find content out there that truly understand what is going on or delve into the intricacies of the show.

10:43 Dolores Prime didn't need to rebuild Hale, she had to rebuild Dolores Abernathy. Dolores Prime was in the Hale host body. It would just take a few coding hours to do the presto chango. I also don't think she rebuilt Bernard/Arnold, but just reprogrammed him. There is still another female out there with a Dolores; we haven't seen her yet. I'm betting on an Angela, but it could be a Maeve, which would be quite the mindf**k.

Dolores and Stubbs appear to be only ones not restricted by cornerstones. Unless Mauve is trying to play Cirak pretending to be wanting a reunion with her daughter in Host virtual heaven. Not leaving the park the first time she was supposed to and coming back for her daughter might be an indicator she is still stuck on it despite her intelligence and abilities. I agree and have stated so myself that Dolores brilliant move to copy herself off was strategic to stay a step ahead of Cirak, Reho, and Mave.

Possible that Serac is Rehaboam. Using Maeve in simulation to try and track down Dolores. Musashi said that Maeve left him in park when Maeve knew that wasn’t true (he decided to stay). Just another example of Rehaboam getting something wrong bc it can’t accurately predict human behaviour. Maeve doesn’t need glasses to see Serac but when Hale went to see him she needed glasses bc Hale was in real world.

I’m curious about the theory that part of Maeve’s journey we’re being shown is more “training” in a simulation. That could account for the appearance of Musashi who would be a part of Maeve’s memory, but not Dolores’. Maybe Serac is running possible scenarios that Maeve could encounter while he grooms her into an ally.

I agee with that conclusion. There is no known connection with Musashi and Dolores but Maeve would have memories. So that was Serac testing Maeve's ability to take direction. The only kicker is she has her powers while in the other simulation she didn't. Maybe something Serac could control.

I think "Welcome to the endgame" means that they build an artificial William and in order for him to become conscious he has to find the center of the maze. This way he may become stable in a host but this time on the AI side.
