wtf. i really dont think it was. i mean the storylines were great and so on but only the detail to that. technically and IT-related the attention to detail was really.. sloppy?! i mean srsly. just watch the way bernard uses the tablets.. u can clearly see its just shopped into the video, its like he is hovering his finger just in the air. and when he looks for something on the map the fingerposition isnt even matching the movement.. not that i wanna talk bad about the series, it was pretty amazing but the ONLY part i didnt like was the lack of attention to detail lol great story but so many little things dont quite fit..

Another parallel was in the first and tenth episode. The Man In Black says to Teddy "I'll let you get the first shot." William tells the soldier "I'll let you get the first shot."

It is true that can be "funny" the fact that young William and old William say sometimes the same things, but... I honestly think that in true life is actually really difficult that a person repeat to much the same sentences... I mean, I don't think I say exactly the same sentences that a few years ago I said or whatever I'm going to say in the future...

Two light/dark W’s intertwined. Representing (take your pick): the “bicameral mind,” or “good self vs evil self,” or “who you are in the park vs who you are in reality,” etc. The dichotomies are endless.

Ford and Arnold were both incredibly smart people. Capable of creating human like robots and later upgrading to organic based. Not only did they design the robots but they wrote the code which would require some serious skills. If they live in a digital society I wouldn't put it past Ford hacking his way to delete any data on him, including photos. I'd have to go back and re-watch but I believe there was a comment earlier in the season about there being no information about Arnold.

Paolo Rotarr Ill admit the show looks good. But it was very "meh" to me. Intellectually and in terms of the story and characters. And I don't find the ideas in the show new or compelling. Maybe this is nitpicky, and I don't suppose at this point the timelines matter ALL that much anyway, but two things: The MiB's return to the park when he "kills" Maeve and her daughter seems to have been a year before the "present", so 2051 if we're saying present is 2052. And Dolores's walk into the church and down the elevator is not all in 2052/present. It flashes between 2052 and scenes from 2015-18, when she's wearing the blue dress, the church is full of the malfunctioning hosts, young Ford is arguing with Arnold, etc. The one aspect of this scene we haven't had answered yet is why, in the present iteration of her walking down the underground hallway beneath the church, there are all those dead bodies strewn about the hall. Any thoughts, anyone?

Karl D I'm confused by the timing of Maeve's alternative storyline as well. When she first woke in the lab, wasn't she told she'd been at the saloon for a couple years? When she shot MIB/William in her other storyline it'd have to have been on a separate visit, or he's been in the park nonstop for years since his wife's death. And What are they eating while they're in there? I don't think I've seen anyone eat a thing, surely the guests need to get fed.
@karlthefirst8690
@karlthefirst8690 7 жыл бұрын
Joanie Boucher Haha good point about the food. As for the Maeve timelines, I'm pretty sure Felix says to her early in their sequence of lab visits that she'd only been the brothel madam for a year or so. Forget the exact wording, but it does scan for me with the timeline the MiB shares with Angela and Teddy before Wyatt's men arrive in the woods. He says he had been coming to the park all along, but that he basically didn't start doing this apparently evil stuff to the hosts until his wife died a year ago. Since he also suggests that Maeve and her daughter were his first stop in the park after his wife's death, I think the timeline Felix gives Maeve for her madame character does work out ok logically.

Except that she got off the train in the end to look for her daughter, while she was programmed to use the train to infiltrate the mainland (see screenshots of the tablet). That might have been the first conscious decision she made.
@jeremymather613
@jeremymather613 7 жыл бұрын
True, but notice also the slightly-obscured next line in the script on the tablet: Just below "Mainland Infiltration" the next line of code says "OVERRIDE FUNCTION if..." and we can't see the rest. This could imply that the Mainland part could be overridden if she were to, say, receive info about her daughter? Total speculation. I also do believe that she's making her first "choice" as a conscious being, but now that I analyze that tablet script, I thought of this possibility. Just sayin!

Chadwick Jones Maeve is open for interpretation. I personally think by caving into her "Cornerstone" (her daughter) she may have been abandoning her narrative but technically she is still ruled by her programming. In the face of a successful escape she was still persuaded to return to the park, albeit being tricked to think this was her own initiative. I hope that makes sense? If the writers wanted this to be Maeve demonstrating a conscious decision to abandon her own narrative, they didn't execute it very well. Or maybe it was construed on purpose for future seasons.

Great analysis and great piece. When a TV version of Westworld was first announced, it sounded like a cool idea, but they really took it to another level, sort of how SyFy's Battlestar Galactica upped the ante when they remade the earlier NBC series. Expanding on an interesting and fun sci-fi premise and taking it to far more ambitious levels is what makes for compelling television, which the sci-fi, horror and fantasy genres allow more than any others. I believe the next Jurassic movie is looking to do the same, which just reinforces the talent and mind of creator Michael Crichton that his work still resonates and inspires today.

I thought exactly the same, the originals are great, but they topped them very well. But I never liked the first episode of WW, if you never watched the original movie, it would be very hard to recognize what its about and whats going on. So I like the movie a bit more as a first episode, to get into the story.

It's 2017 and people still use AK47 and M16 which are really old guns (40-68 years old)

+ 007cro Good point, but a rich organisation like that would be using modern weapons. Doesn't low tech Arab nations use AK47s?

At first I was wondering why would William want the hosts to fight back, but then I remembered myself playing GTA and getting bored punching old ladies and not seeing them draw a missile launcher in my face for a change.

Quick note, William did not shoot Maeve in the present timeframe. It would have been (from memory) 1-2 years earlier.

it disappointed me that the timeline started in 2015. I thought that it started on 2060s or those times. The series implied that by 2016 we already had Androids capable of passing the Turing test, which is very far from the truth.

The only part I don't understand is that when older William and Maeve cross paths she is as the mother character, but the rest of Maeve's breakout storyline is while she is the brothel madam.

siddus19 Older William explains this in episode 8 when he tells Theodore about that incident, saying it happened about 1 year ago. The techs who worked with Maeve confirmed this when they told her that she's only been at the brothel for 1 year, rather than 10 years which she was programmed to think.

There will never be such thing as a mega-huge theme park as "Westworld" in real life. Why? The world is ruined, totally overpopulated and bankrupt for such uber mega projects. If they had started planning for this 20 years ago, it would have been possible.... But not now at all.

True. So is the entirety of Westworld. What was it, something like $40,000 just for one visit to the park? No hope for us peons - or the only hope lies with the peons who might escape this brand of a robot apocalypse :-/
