You can always ignore the product advice that Al gives in these vids and go and do your own thing, but not everybody has the knowledge/experience of camping products and the best types to use in certain weather conditions. He’s been there, seen it and done it. Not sure you would find a better camping enthusiast than Al who could give you frank and honest advice about what to use. Sure, he might get benefits from advertising them, but so what! He deserves it. He’s the one who is putting up with the crap weather conditions to entertain us all when all said and done. And of course, there Blue as well. The vids would never the same without him would they!

Great walk, pretty waterfall, awesome pitch location with stunning view. Nice. Spacious storm proof tent with the double vestibule, plenty of room for a dog-bedroom and a kitchen indeed. Regarding temps of 5°C, perhaps a decent silk liner for the sleeping bag would suffice. Adds about 5°C and weighs about 130 grams (I'm 1.88m.) It doesn't allow you to walk around camp comfy easily though. It's pretty hard actually. 😉. But it's a great option to increase the comfort rating of your available sleeping bag.

@BUSHMANandBLUE11 ай бұрын
We can all manage with cheaper kit for wild camping and it doesn’t take away at all from the experience. I guess the more expensive kit is honed towards safety and speed in the extreme expedition or multi day events where warmth to weight ratio really counts. Given the choice we’d all pack lighter but for the cost, in less challenging situations, it’s not always worth it when the outcome is still the same. Cheers Steve👍

I didn't blink, not once. Thoroughly enjoyed every second. I admit that I've NOT looked to see how much any pieces of your kit cost. The drone footage of the waterfall was the crowning touch. I was somewhat surprised, considering the windy conditions that you didn't feel the need to put any big heavy rocks atop any tent stake. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada U.S.A.

No, wild camping can be achieved with a very small budget especially if you choose the right weather. But as the challenge increases and the weather is harsher then most cheap kit just won’t be safe enough. A lot of the PHD kit is designed for high altitude peaks and arctic expeditions where it’s not about the money but more about completing the challenge and staying alive. The lighter weight gear like this is aimed at ultra endurance athletes where gram counting matters to be able to complete the event or to win and not be 2nd. No doubt though the lighter the kit the more enjoyable the adventure though regardless 👍👍👍

I know what it feels like to go sprawling in a freezing 😢stream. On one occasion heading up to Thornthwaite Crag in -3C and just 100yds from the car I stepped on a grassy tussock in the middle of a stream which proved to have nothing but water beneath it and ended up just like you, saturated down one sude. I debated, should I just change into my over trousers, chilly, or go back. In the event I continued up and within half an hour was dry and warm. At the top we had sandwiches laced with flying ice crystals. Did you try the pub with no beer at the start of the path, the Cross Keys Temperence pub? Superb food - and coffee and cake!

This is not a grumble but it would be good to know if gear is a) bought by you, b) given by the manufacture, but not a sponsorship, or c) fully sponsored.
