Summer’s never over when we watch our favorite summer camp comedy - Wet Hot American Summer!
Not only does this movie have an absolutely incredible cast (Janeane Garofalo, Amy Poehler, David Hyde Pierce, Paul Rudd, the list goes on!) but it also has some of our favorite cinematic moments. It’s a must watch!

YESSSS! So excited for this, I feel like I requested this for a retro review like a year ago! Fun fact- Bradley Coopers gay sex scene was shot the day he was meant to have attended his graduation, and the crew made it a closed set for extra intimacy and awkwardness. Arguably, a more enlightening experience than picking up his diploma would've ever been.

Love this movie so much! I worked at the summer camp where they filmed this (it's in the Poconos). The shack where Bradley Cooper and Michael Ian Black have their sex scene was still there, but it was basically condemned. It was heavily rumored that the owners of the camp were not happy with the content in the movie (I can't imagine why)! Their son is the broom balancer in the talent show!

We cannot fail to mention H. Jon Benjamin being the notorious voice over actor that he is as the can of mixed vegetables!!! This movie is sensational!!! And WHAS: 10 Years Later is hilariously as well, it misses the mark just slightly with Pierces role but it still makes me lol

Such a fabulous review---it's so important to expose people to this gem! Would LOVE it if you could review "They Came Together," which is basically just a reunion of "Wet Hot" cast/writers doing the same absurd, farcical fuckery with the rom-com genre

Like, I chuckled and smiled at the movie but at your review I laughed so hard I had an asthma attack (seriously). I actually think you two should have starred in this film. I'm not even joking.

I'm trying to remember if it was David Wain or Michael Showalter who had a side-gig teaching semiotics and is really into deconstructionism. (Okay, they obviously both really love deconstructionism, but only one of them taught it at a college level.) I think that was the instinct behind really focusing on the artificiality of things you normally wouldn't even consider (JJ just straight-up walking off the pier, the van crash edit, the single bale of hay in the road, etc). I'd say that a better sequel to Wet Hot American Summer than the actual sequels is They Came Together, where Wain and Showalter did the same kind of deconstructionist parody to romcoms.

Going off the HOME MOVIES reference - which btw made me like Avaryl even more - there is an episode called "Camp" where the gang goes to a performing arts camp which has all the movie camp cliches you can think off. Im sorry, what about the appearance of the kenyan runner? Completely emotionless, grabs the flag, no one can catch up to him, never appears again. Enjoyed the movie regardless, you guys make any film so much funnier. Also, if you havent seen it, I am begging you to watch Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat with Donny Osmond, its honestly fantastic, pure camp. My mum loved the musical when she was younger so i suggested we watch it because none of us had seen it. She hated it. I was the only one left watching it because i was that fascinated. Please please watch it.

You should check out the movie the Final Girls.... It’s a horror/comedy that is a send up of camp movies like Friday the 13th. It’s not scary at all but it’s a modern classic. It has really great actors in it as well. My best friends are not horror fans AT ALL & they loved it! It’s just such a great movie OMG. Another great comedy that is one of my favs of all time is What We Do In the Shadows. A vampire parody created by the genius behind Thor Ragnarok

This film reminded me of comedies like "Meatball (1979)" with Bill Murray ("Caddyshack," "Ghostbusters") & "Meatballs 2 (1984)." Molly Shannon was so good on SNL, just like a Cheri O'Teri, Nora Dunn, Victoria Jackson, Melanie Hutsell, Amy Poehler (with the multi-talented Tina Fey) or Julia Sweeney. "It just doesn't matter !" - Bill Murray in "Meatball" 1. Macrame screams the 1970's. "The China Syndrome (1979)" was the disaster film starring: Jane Fonda, Jack Lemmon and Michael Douglas. "Sleepaway Camp (1983)" looks cool; I didn't knew that it had two more sequels: 2 - Unhappy Campers (1988) and 3 - Teenage Wasteland (1989)." Showrunners Brad Falchuk and Ryan Murphy's "American Horror Story anthology series: 1984 (2019)" also came to mind. Ruth Buzzi was the gal on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In (aka Laugh-In); it had featured a young Goldie Hawn ("Private Benjamin (1980)," "Seems Like Old Times (1980)"), Gary Owens, or Lily Tomlin ("9 To 5 (1980)"). This was like the "Scary Movie (2000)" film, which spoofed "Scream (1996)"; "Scream" had fun of 80's horror movie premises; kinda like "The Final Girls (2015)." "Not Another Teen Movie (2001)" = high school movie cliques (like "Clueless (1995)" or "Mean Girls (2004: written by Tina Fey).") "Bad News Bears (1976)": the one with Walter Matthau as the coach; 2005, there was filmmaker Richard Linklater's remake with Billy Bob Thornton as "Morris Buttermaker." (credit: IMDB)
