In this video I paint a wet street scene of a live band and spectators dancing in the rain. Painted in Krita, with Digital Atelier pastels

Hi Steve, you are a constant inspiration. Whittling down details to the bare essence and then transforming it with your great sense of color is always an amazing process to watch.

Very useful tutorial. If I hadn't seen it created before my own eyes I would have assumed it was real pastels. An organic rendering to fool the non digital audiences? Krita showing off its hidden powers.

@@SteveElliottArt Hi Steve, I just watched something that made me wonder if it was at all possible to try and emulate digitally. The KZbin channel was ' My Fantastical Imaginarium' and the video' 'Granulation 101'. A beautiful effect that would be great for rocks, old buildings and parts of a landscape maybe? Anyway, best wishes, David

This painting... i like it a lot. For the emotion, the mood, the idea behind. Really emotive. by the way you can color pick from references in Krita. Also if you go to the part near the brush editor icon, you can see the FG and BG color squares. If you press in fg color a window appears. there you select the color picker and all your screen is available, not only Krita, so you can color pick from Pure ref too ;) . Again a good pastel artwork. My fav part is the band and how you remove details. See you

Impressive! I suppose you are using Digital Atelier’s brushes for this one? Just another question, which pen digitizer tablet do you use?

Hi Staffan, I pretty much use Digital Atelier brushes exclusively when painting in Krita. I’m using a Wacom 16” Cintiq

Hi Steve, How long did it take you altogether to do the painting, and how many separate sessions? It's interesting to know so that I don't get to thinking I should be able to do something similar in an hour and ten minutes. It would probably take me three or four sessions at a couple hours each. And secondly, is Krita you favourite painting app for everything or just for pastels?

hi, I'm not steve but I can tell you that about your question, timing varies every individual and every artist but in general when we talk about digital painting typically an hour or two for the experienced artists and as for amateur it'll be like 2 or 3 hours in total. people make this time in few or couple sessions depending on their schedule and time. so as an artist you don't have to worry about how long it takes for you to paint something you like as long as you have time and passion to do it. just enjoy the painting and eventually you'll close up the time as you wish. all the best.

Hi Mousyfox, this painting took just over two hours. I usually finish a piece on one sitting. It’s very rare I go back to it once I’ve finished. I love Krita for pastels and pencil work, for other mediums I prefer Rebelle. This is just for PC of course. I use many more apps on my iPad Pro.
