We not only redo the original stitching we also like to stitch around the patch. That works well for us. Also in a pinch we use waxed dental floss for thread. The wax goes easily though the existing holes.

Venison > originally meant the meat of a game animal but now refers primarily to the meat of deer. 🦌 It's funny how a (mobile) boat can become your home, I guess it comes down to the amount of time you spend on her (in your case, full time). Thanks for the vid 😊

Shame you're having such crappy weather around the UK, the West Coast of Scotland and Southwest of England are truly wonderful places to sail in the Summer! The HIDB moorings are usually well maintained and reliable - no need to anchor if you can get one.

17:50 “This is great, this a better anchorage than I thought.” It’s Acairsaid Mohr, the best anchorage in the world! Absolutely gorgeous. Of course it helped that it was July that we were there and warm and sunny. We bought a feed of langoustine prawns off a local fisherman and steamed them in Talisker. C’est magnifique! Certainly added to the whole mystique of the place.

Thank you for being honest about your seasick situation. Whilst it is uncomfortable, as a fellow seasick boat owner, I feel useless too when I am ill. And it validates my anxiety about going out in tricky sailing conditions. All the best.
@Neilhuny Жыл бұрын
The seasick thing confuses me! I *think* that many/most people feel seasick at first but they acclimatise after some hours or days - very tentative, weak opinion. I was extremely surprised to see some KZbin sailors (should I name them?) say that they never drink coffee on passage because it makes them seasick! Blimey. The inference was that most people were similarly affected so don't drink coffee at sea. But stopping drinking it gives everyone (?) withdrawal symptoms and severe headaches anyway ...doesn't it? Lose lose situation

Yep, moorings? some people drop the mooring for the winter. taking the large buoy off and letting the riser chain etc sink to the sea bed saving wear over the winter . They mark the position of said mooring tackle with a rope and small buoy ready to pull it to the surface in the spring. Nice of someone to inform you though. just my first viewing , have subscribed and liked

What a great sailing day! This reminds me of a passage completed in June, cruising aboard SV Pellew, a replica of the biggest pilot cutter built by Luke Powell. I was priveliged to be given the helm for the passage down from the Shiant Islands to the very same anchorage on Rona. That was an exciting narrow entrance to make in the 80 ton cutter with neglible wind, and Luke refuses to use the motor for manouvering. Next challenge was to put her alongside in Mallaig in similar conditions but with a CalMac ferry hard on my stern.

The remedy against seasickness: mix water with real Coca Cola, 50/50, and drink quite a bit of it before leaving/setting sail. Personally I do not get seasick, touch wood. However, it worked for over 50% of the people that sailed with me. No pharmacy needed and one will not get groggy.

I saw you picking up something. Ah, flying fish. No, a clam shell What? How does a clam shell jump up and land on your boat....? Oh, yeah. duh. The thing about sun damage to fabric or thread is that where it breaks is not where it's damaged. The damage is everywhere, that's just the first place it breaks. On my Hunter I was pulling (yanking with the power winch) the fussy in mast furled main sail when the clew exploded. A few days later I left for journey and spent four months feeling like a complete moron who broke the clew. Back I took it in, got it resewn. Second sail out the jib clew popped. I was reefed, the winds weren't even 18 knots. Sun damage? Looks like it. On my old Honda a hose failed. I refilled the radiator three times to get to the shop. They replaced the hose. Almost immediately a second hose broke. I googled. Yeah, when one hose goes always replace them all because they're done too. So your sail? Probably be easy enough to get a nice Scottish sailmaker to run fresh stitches on all the seams.
