My mum was friends with the mum of the bass player in the Wets. He lived next door to my aunt and my cousin and as a teenager, I used to babysit the boys and play football with them! Shocked in the 80s, when my mum told me about the band! They all went to the same high school as me, but I was about 8 years older. Bought and loved their first album, which featured this track! Fond memories! 💖🎶

I was lucky enough to be listening to this music at the time it first came out, although I was pretty young at the time. In 1987 I was 8 years old for example, but I was a big follower of the charts from about 1983 onwards (which was unlucky in a way because 1981 and 1982 were great years for music as well). I'll be honest, I wasn't into Wet Wet Wet, but this debut single held my attention more than anything else they did. What an amazing debut it was too! I love the video, Marti's infectious smile and the twinkle in his eye. A bunch of young dudes at the start of a big rollercoaster adventure. To me this is perfect pop music, for all the reasons other people have mentioned. I've returned to it again this week during early September 2022, I'm reminded that great music is timeless.

Story about Marti Pellow.. my mate was in the gym/leisure area of the Copthorne Hotel, Newcastle a few yrs ago, he was in the jacuzzi, when a fella joined him.. started chatting, my mate was waxing lyrical about the famous Newcastle nightlife and how this bloke should get himself out that night, after a while the fella said that he was working that night and would next time he was in the area, the fella was Marti Pellow My stupid mate didn't know who he was, and that Wet Wet Wet were playing that night to a sell out Newcastle Arena... he never lived it down.
