Lyrics:
I don't need to fall at your feet
Just 'cause you cut me to the bone
And I won't miss the way that you kiss me
We were never carved in stone
If I don't listen to the talk of the town
Then maybe I can fool myself
I'll get over you I know I will
I'll pretend my ship's not sinking
And I'll tell myself I'm over you
'Cause I'm the king of wishful thinking
I am the king of wishful thinking
I refuse to give in to my blues
That's not how it's going to be
And I deny the tears in my eyes
'Cause I don't want to let you see no
That you have made a hole in my heart
And now I've got to fool myself
I'll get over you I know I will
I'll pretend my ship's not sinking
And I'll tell myself I'm over you
'Cause I'm the king of wishful thinking (I'll get over you I know I will)
I'll pretend my ship's not sinking
And I'll tell myself I'm over you
'Cause I'm the king of wishful thinking (king of wishful thinking)
I will never, never shed a tear for you
I'll get over you (I know I will)
If I don't listen to the talk of the town
Then maybe I can fool myself
I'll get over you I know I will
I'll pretend my ship's not sinking
And I'll tell myself I'm over you
'Cause I'm the king of wishful thinking
I'm the king of wishful thinking
I'll get over you I know I will
You made a hole in my heart
But I won't shed a tear for you
I'll be the king of wishful thinking
I'll get over you (I know I will)
I'll pretend my heart's still beating
'Cause I've got no more tears for you
I'm the king of wishful thinking
I'll get over you (I know I will)
You made a hole in my heart
And I'll tell myself I'm over you
'Cause I'm the king of wishful thinking

It's true of every generation. My father restored jukeboxes, so I heard everything from the 1940s and up as a kid. Now that my mother is in a nursing home with dementia and I know so many of those "golden oldies" by heart, I can sing them with her and she still remembers the lyrics. I'm so glad my father made me appreciate all the songs from his life; it feels like a bridge for me now.

I can't define this song as having an 80's or 90's sound. it has elements of both. I kinda group the very late eighties and the very early 90's as it's own era..i kinda think the 90's didn't really start until Bill Clinton and the whole gangsta rap /grunge thing took off. When big 80's artists like Huey Lewis and even acts like Hall and Oates could no longer break into the top 10--we knew the 80's were over

Being born in 1976, I have a special place in my heart for Go West's 'King of Wishful Thinking'. It takes me back to a memorable trip to NYC in 1992 when I was a teenager. I remember visiting the observation deck at the World Trade Center and being amazed by the bustling traffic of NYC, with land yacht like the Lincoln Town car dominating the streets. Those were simpler times, and I miss them dearly. Sadly, the Twin Towers are now gone, just like the classic cars that have been replaced by SUVs. It's bittersweet to watch the music video and reminisce about that era 😢

@@hcaballero57 There's always crossover when it comes to the late 80's and early 90's. I mean it's the same when you look at cartoons. This song reminds me of my late uncle Joe Palladino..... The things he taught me made me realize that there are going to be hard times but to run into it not against it. Two wolves on a ranch.... I will never believe em' when they say I can't. He lives on through all of us. Love WIllow---TYbay ONT

I always admired the way that the singer, Wayne, shamelessly tucked his t shirts into his jeans. Truly, his maleness was engorged.

lol same here....got it in college....to be rebellious.....just wore the stud.....then realized all it did was bring attention to my already large ears....and let it heal up....although the indentation is still visible lol.

I completely forgot about that, I remember my dad paying close attention to which ear a man wore his earring.

There was a lot of gay men who wore their earring in the supposedly "non-gay" ear.
