Kids born from 90 to 95 got to experience the real golden era of cartoons

@@PonchoLopez-bf5ri Sorry they did not, Saturday morning cartoons were the Golden era that had declined rapidly from late 80's and barely clinging on by the mid 90's. Still some good shows no doubt but by 95 it was already over. Sad too as Saturday mornings was for kids and really was such a great time.

Used to start out my day with Ray Raynor in the morning while getting ready for school, then run home at lunchtime to catch Bozo and then rush home again after school to catch the Cubs game or if the Cubs weren't on, then the Andy Starr Theater! Life in Chicago was pretty good if you were a kid in the 60's!

If you were living in Chicago back in the sixties & WGN was the network to watch, you didn’t miss Bozo, Ray Rayner, cartoons, or anything else for that matter, I can remember coming home for lunch and watching Bozo at noon, Let’s Make A Deal at 12:30 then back to school at 1, so Bozo was a part of my life , in the early sixties my sister was on Bozos Circus courtesy of my late aunt, just don’t ask me what she won or anything else, that’s all I know!! But it’s nice to know that two people helped make many kids very happy on a children’s show during the week

The chemistry between Bob Bell and Ned were such , that Bob would work at getting Ned to Skip his line and loose his place. The ultimate in Improvisation. I Also remember in the 60's it ran in the evening too.

When you were a kid in the 60's in Chicago area, if there was a snow day, it was 'Yay, we get to watch Bozo's Circus!' If you were home sick from school the first thing was 'I get watch Bozo!' It was the biggest part of a surprise weekday off of school.

This show was so popular because they also made it funny for the parents. Lots of what they ad-libbed would never be allowed today, like Bozo telling Cookie to take a pair of scissors someplace and fall on them... or upon seeing Wizzo has a 'Purse... of Arobia!'... Bozo turns and in an aside to the camera, says 'Now I KNOW what I always SUSPECTED...'. Or Ringmaster Ned yelling 'Bozo, the elephants are loose!' and Bozo called back "Give 'em some Kaopectate!"

Growing up in Chicago's South suburbs, I used to watch Bozo every day with my little sister while sitting on the floor in front of our black-and-white TV. I was 5 years old in 1963 and there was one Bozo show I would never forget, it was a fall day, and my sister and I were sitting on the floor watching Bozo, my Mom was standing behind us doing her weekly ironing of clothes when the show suddenly went off the air with the words - "We interrupt this program to bring you an important news announcement", it was November 22nd and we found out that our president, John F Kennedy had just been shot in Dallas TX.

Saw the bozo show in either 84 or 85. Bob bell had just left and the new bozo was just starting. I can remember it vividly despite only being like 3 or 4 at the time. I remember cookie not being there but whizzo took his place. Went with my aunt and her friend and daughter. The daughter got picked for one of the games and busted her ass after slipping in water. I remember they stopped the game. I still have the vhs tape. I also remember them showing a gi Joe cartoon which ended on a cliffhanger and it taking me like 3 or 4 years to see the second half lol. Ahhhhh, memories.

I remember waking up early in the morning, in my PJs, quietly dragging down my big soft blanket down the stairs to sit in front of the TV, Farm Report with Orion Samuelson started the day on WGN, I would eat my bowl of cereal then go wash, brush my teeth, and get dressed for school, then Ray Raynor came on at what ever time that was, before that was over my buddy Johnny from across the street would yell out from the back porch "Yo Frank" and we walk to school. Lunch time we ran home to catch Bozo. Any kid that grew up in the Chicago area at that time was familiar with Bozo, Ray Raynor, Farm Report, Garfield Goose, Family Classics, and Creature Features. It was a wonderful time to be a kid.

Bozo used to be on WPIX-TV (channel 11) in NYC back in the 1960's, but this was a staple in Chicago TV when WGN-TV has been running "Bozo" for years. In New York City when WPIX-TV (channel 11) ran "Bozo", there was "Officer Bolton", "Popeye", and others. WNEW-TV (channel 5) had "Wonderama", and WWOR-TV (channel 9) had "Steampipe Alley" with Mario Cantoine.

When he was inducted into the International Clown Hall of Fame in 1996, Larry Harmon who owned the rights to Bozo the Clown, refused to congratulate Bell and prohibited him from receiving the award in-costume. That is per Wikipedia, they don't give a reason why, but it seems Larry Harmon was not the easiest person to deal with.

Larry Harmon was a huge perfectionist when it came to the Bozo IP. His estate does not allow WGN to rerun the show or release it on DVD.
@townhall05446
@townhall05446 2 жыл бұрын
@@christiangonzales7429 I can see him keeping the rights to the reruns or videos, but refusing to let Bell wear the costume for which he was inducted? I think maybe Harmon was a bit jealous that Bell made more of the character than he himself ever did. IMO
