The tub seal inhibits water from leaking around the drive shaft and going through the bottom of the wash tub. You may need to replace your tub seal if you notice that your washer is making loud noises while in operations or your washer is leaking water. Mike from Point & Click Appliance Repair will take you step-by-step through replacing your tub seal. (Part number WH02X10383) on a GE washer (model number GTWN4250D0WS).
*WARNING: Before starting any repair, always make sure that the appliance is completely disconnected from the power source by unplugging it. This tutorial is meant to be a guide and should not be used in place of the installation instructions provided by the manufacturer.
Tools Needed:
-Channel Locks
-Flat Head Screwdriver
-1/4" Nutdriver
-5/16 & 7/16 Nutdriver
-2 Putty Knives
-Needlenose Pliers
-Hammer
-Spanner Wrench
Step-by-Step instructions on replacing your tub seal. (Part number WH02X10383) on a GE washer (model number GTWN4250D0WS).
1.) Unplug your appliance from its power source.
2.) Loosen and remove the water inlet hoses from the water inlet valve.
3.) Remove the top control assembly using a 1/4" nutdriver by taking out the screws from the back.
4.) Push up on control assembly and slide it out. Disconnect all the wires going to the main control board.
5.) Using 2 putty knives, clip into the front lock of the front panel and pop that out and remove it.
6.) Remove the two screws that hold the top of the washer in place with the washer cabinet. Lift up on the washer and slide it our of position.
7.) Using a flat head screwdriver, push the lid switch through the top of the washer and pull it out sliding it through. Remove the top of the washer from the machine.
8.) Using a 1/4" nutdriver, remove the screws and slide the white end caps off and remove the back.
9.) Using needlenose pliers, remove the water level switch hose and slide it through. Place that and the back metal plate to the side.
10.) Using a 5/16 nutdriver, remove the 4 dampening straps from the tub and remove the top cover of the tub.
11.) Lift up on the clip, pull up and do that all around the tub. Lift the top cover of the lid out.
12.) Take the agitator, the agitator nut and the agitator coupling out of the machine.
13.) Remove the hub nut using a spanner wrench and hitting it with a hammer to loosen in the direction it says to do so.
14.) Spin the hub nut off when loose enough and remove the inner tub of the washer. (Be careful)
15.) Remove the split hub bearing, using a flat head screwdriver press into the cut which will loosen and slide it off the drive shaft.
16.) Locate the tub seal and using the same tool pry in between the seal and pop m it up, raise it and slide it off the drive shaft using your hands.
17.) Grab your new OEM replacement tub seal and place the seal back onto the drive shaft, sliding and pressing it inside the tub.
18.) Take your split tub bearing and place it onto the drive shaft.
19.) Place the inner drum back into the washer and replace the hub but by placing the spanner wrench back onto it and hitting it with a hammer in the opposite direction as before to tighten it.
20.) Once tight enough, replace the agitator coupling and agitator nut, reattaching the dampening straps.
21.) Replace the back assembly and then reconnect the pressure switch hose to the pressure switch.
22.) Replace the agitator. Then open the door and reattach the door switch.
23.) Replace the foam on the inside of the back assembly and then slide the top of the washer into place.
24.) Screw the top of the washer into the cabinet and replace the front panel of the washer.
25.) Reconnect the wires back to the main control assembly. Slide this back into the washer.
26.) Connect our water inlet hoses and make sure they are secure and tightly fastened.
27.) Plug your appliance back into its power source.
