I've absolutely adored the original book ever since I was introduced to it in the first grade, and there were moments in the story, particularly when they burp the baby Jesus, that stuck with me through my entire life. When I first saw The Chosen, my immediate thought was "I wonder if Dallas read Best Christmas Pageant Ever, because the portrayal of Jesus gives me that dame energy." The second Dallas announced he was making a movie based on the book, I was ecstatic. Still haven't gotten the chance to go see it since there aren't any theaters nearby, but my expectations have never been higher. I love Dallas's work, and I love the original story, and those two things put together are a recipe for something wonderful.

Woot! Woot! So glad your son even had a sweet take-away. ❤ To the concerns, for those who have read the book or seen the 1983 film depiction of it, Charlie just doesn't have a big role. As for Imogene taking the Lord's name in vain 3 times in the book, she isn't checked, but in this movie depiction her doing so is appropriately checked. So that may help viewers. Also, the smoking is more implied, and she isn't seen really puffing away.

They stayed true to the source material, the acting was spot on, it was a beautifully filmed movie that captured the feel of the town. Sadly it captured all to well the reality of a western church that tends to spurn the outcasts but I am glad it did because it used that to hammer home the fact the Jesus came for everyone. This was one of the few movies I have ever seen that the audience in the theater started clapping when it was over.

Awesome movie and I pray that wakes us up as the Church that Jesus came for everyone not just the people who have it all together!

My friend and I saw it yesterday and felt that there were very good messages in it. It is just so wonderful to be able to go to the movies and see a GOOD movie without all the garbage for a change. We have not been going very much any more because of all the garbage that has been showing at the theater. This movie was a real treat.

I remember seeing the first movie... A couple scenes still stick out in my mind: The Communion Wine... And the girl playing Mary, crying at Baby Jesus. Oh, the setup/ending shot's of the Offering Plate being passed. 😂
