Should you remove barnacles from whales? No, you should not remove barnacles from whales because it is not necessary and can actually harm them; barnacles are considered commensal organisms, meaning they benefit from living on the whale without causing any significant harm to the whale itself, and attempting to remove them can be painful and stressful for the animal due to their sensitive skin. Look it up
@anitadoczy70128 күн бұрын
Do you know how much abuse I've taken from people from telling them that removing barnacles from a whale is painful to them? I don't know what the obsession is with picking barnacles off of them. It's normal. Whales have thin skin with a lot of nerve endings, so of course they feel the pain. Some barnacles even burrow down to the blubber, so picking them hurts the whale more. No one seems to get that. Whales don't say "ouch", so people don't know what pain they are causing.

I was finishing up a dive in Hawaii, waiting for my spot as other divers were getting on the boat. Treading water I was just casually bobbing to depth of about ten feet. Then, as described in this story, everything in the water changed. The hair on the back of my neck stood up like I was getting an electric shock! I turned in the water and about five feet from me was a humpback whale, the size of a school bus, casually looking at me! I was stunned as the whale moved slowly past me. As she moved she turned to show me her prize. It was a calf, about the size of a small car, moving with its mother--totally in sync with her every movement. Suddenly, it all became clear. She was a proud mama, showing off her baby. I was absolutely floored by the beauty of this moment! They moved back into the darkness as slowly and silently as they came. It was a once in a lifetime experience! Wonderful!

Whether or not this took place most of us will never know. However as a SCUBA Diver with just over 1,000 logged dives all over the 🌎 world, I can assure you that there are Marine creatures that have approached humans for help. I've personally been involved in removing "STUFF" inhibiting the movements of a Whale Shark and also removing hooks from large marine creatures where their ability to feed had been compromised. We as humans assume that such animals with smaller brains are incapable of such decision making and as such cannot approach divers and silently ask for help. Typical arrogance of the modern Human Being! I had to quit scuba diving in 1994 due to a serious Spinal Injury. Had I been able to dive I would without hesitation be on the side of all marine Creatures! We all need to treat them with respect, even those we consider "Food"!!
