Great to see you back playing again Rob - I play my best golf on a quiet course (still terrible, mind) as soon as a group gets close behind I start rushing; tempo goes out the window and I spray it everywhere!

Glad you’re back Rob. Your golf swing looks a little different from prior years. Not sure I could set up a camera, talk to the audience and play golf at the same time. Looking forward to more golf from you.

Cheers Pete, me too! Interesting, it looks pretty much the same to me (and always has, even when I've tried to change it!) The camera, chat and golf stuff probably isn't as hard as I make it look! 😂

I really luv watching you play. I asked a pro once how many shots do they really pure and he said maybe 20%. My point is we golfers are harsh on ourselves. Agree on being calm and unrushed. Unfortunately some I play with are not quick players. Then again when I've had a quad bogey I can't complain. Here to enjoy. Thx man.
@RobMcGarr2 жыл бұрын
Definitely makes sense. Played with a mate the other day, he shot +1 and I shot +9. Our good shots were no different, but his short game was great and mine was scruffy. I find playing with slow players tough, especially if they're oblivious to holding people up. Just do whatever I can to make sure I'm ready and moving things along.

Great video, very relatable. Sometimes a round just gets away from you. I try not to total my scores mid round and keep focused on the individual holes rather than get too worried about what the score's going to turn out to.
@RobMcGarr2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's a good call, I've always found I have a pretty clear idea (within one or two shots max) of where my score is at though. At least since I stopped shooting 100+ anyway!

For me, personally, I’m observed that when I take a month break I play the best. Seems odd, but I hit super pure after a break…then decline every subsequent outing (unless I am actively working with a coach and practicing 3-4 times a week).
@RobMcGarr2 жыл бұрын
100% this! I normally have a honeymoon period when I come back that lasts a few rounds, then expectations creep up and I start thinking about things too much, and it goes to the dogs for a while until I actually work it out again.
@bjarnieinarsson34722 жыл бұрын
That's because of energy.. golf need lot's of energy and power. Specially in the lower part of your body, legs and hips and torso muscles. When you rest, your cells can build up in a way "inner" energy. As a diabetics 2 patient I struggle a lot with energy, specially how to preserve when playing and be able to play next day, only recently I could play 18 holes without be exhausted and knocked out sitting somewhere.. For Rob McGarr, you need to work on your strength in lower part of your body, you kind of "bugled" up in all kind of shots (chipping also), using your hands to gain power with the result of spraying and mishits..

Rob, I feel your pain and can relate somewhat. I have a 7 whs handicap but on a good ball striking day I can go round in +5 gross but on bad days I have no backup and can be as bad as +18 gross. I have previously tried your practice plan, but as I work it took me 2 to 3 weeks just to fit the plan around work, homelife and actually getting on the course to play some holes
@RobMcGarr2 жыл бұрын
That's what I said at the time about the practice plan - it can take as long as you want depending on your schedule. I'll probably start using a lot of the drills again soon but it'll definitely take me weeks to get through it all as won't be practising hours a day! Also, regarding the range in your scores, watch this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mWOYmWmnj69oq6M

Loving the vids I’m currently new to golf gone from not being able to get round a course to be playing off 26 in about 6months hoping to get down abit more but I won’t quit the job for it!! Also stop worrying about people behind and in front you have all paid the same fee to play the course!!! Okay at your speed
@RobMcGarr2 жыл бұрын
Nice work mate! Yeah I know, just brought up to always make sure I'm not holding anyone up. And understandably most golfers would be pretty annoyed at being held up by some bloke talking to himself on camera!
@roxby95162 жыл бұрын
great videos, I seem to get in my head too much, like you I’m not satisfied with a shot and I take other peoples game into consideration too much rather than focusing on my own game.

I do think there's a balance. I don't want to ever become someone who doesn't consider others, even if it does save me a shot per round!

Best club in your bag is to be a goldfish. Hit the shot, if it’s not a good shot - release your frustration and let it motivate you to do better on the next one but try and take note of what the issue was (ground contact, clubface at impact, clubpath/curve etc.) to look for patterns and assess what you might do differently. Then forget about it and move on 🤷♀️ P.S. You look to be pushing a lot of shots. Sign of in/out swing path and face open at impact. Try keeping alignment, aim etc. square but try and hit a fade from the square position. Should neutralise your path without any mega swing changes. Simples 😁
@RobMcGarr2 жыл бұрын
Love that! 🐠 Good spot. Realised I was aiming right a lot and playing for a big draw, despite the fact I don't tend to hit much shape. Pretty sure you're right about the path and face but just about to dive on a Trackman to find out for sure...

I definitely do a lot that; getting worked up about play in front and behind, am I going too fast too slow, will I have to let them through or worse will they let me/us through! massively detrimental to my game. hate myself for it but can't seem to control it.

@@RobMcGarr cool that sounds good! Just had a thought, Mark Crossfield (not sure if you’re a fan) and Coach Lockey have released just released a new website called my golf gains, the last video on Marks Channel is an introduction to how it works. Perhaps you could review it as video for your channel, I think it’s a pretty interesting concept he’s come up and I think you’re a pretty good fit to put it to the test. Plus it could do well numbers wise on KZbin, and if he’s made a good product then it will help him out too…
