Loved that emotion of Quinn. He's not like that at all. So when he does, it changes the mood. The Canucks came back to life at the 5 min mark of that 2nd period and had a great 3rd.

Rick Tocchet is born to be a coach. I don't want to take anything away from Mike Sullivan, but Tocchet was huge for the Pens when they won their back to back cups. I'm so happy he's found his way to Vancouver, and I love the success he's having there. Hell of a coach and should win the Jack Adam's this year

i dreaded the selection of tocchet, i knew it was comin' and i had a million assumptions about what kind of coach he was gonna be. i was thinking "we can't have another fucking bonehead that preaches overly simple, will-over-skill hockey - not with this roster." and damn, i couldn't have been more wrong, tocchet is saying and doing everything i've wanted from a coach since the days of AV.

I think Bo had his issues, but that's not true. He used to spaz out and smash his stick on the boards or bash the bench door from time to time. It was in different scenarios though, like if he missed a shot or a chance. Personal frustrations, not like in this case where Hughes was pissed that they let it slip and Toronto managed to claw back.

Agreed. When a level headed guy like Quinn does something like that, it sends a message to the rest of the team that they need to do better. A lot of people were surprised that Hughes was made captain instead of Petey. But he’s proving time and time again that the Canucks made the right choice. Elias is an elite player, but I don’t think he would’ve been as good of a leader as him. Edit: Yes. I know Elias didn’t wanna be captain, I never said he did. Quinn was always the best choice, he is the most thoughtful and even tempered. Not to mention he was emerging as the leader at the end of last season, volunteering to speak to the fans and press. Petey struggles with English word finding a lot, also can be a bit moody with the press, not really Cap material. Don’t think he wanted it anyway. JT is capable but also mood variable though great in the community. The latter two make good assistant caps. Demko could have been cap but that is difficult for a goalie who needs to be focused as Luongo will attest.

When you watch Leafs post games where Marner, Keefe, etc make excuses and say how good their own team and play are after losses...then you watch how Miller, Hughes, and Tocchet will critique their own play after wins... you see the culture difference. Leafs blow a 4th lead in a row and Marner blamed the media for the negativity. Canucks won 5 in a row on their road trip and Tocchet and Miller criticized their details.

100%. ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY. Like, did we build a losing culture in the locker room? How about a shift in tone for a change??

It’s getting funny to see the leafs saying “sure we lost but we did a lot of good things here today”. Like if you lost an odd one, sure. I think Toc said that we improved a lot after losing to Tampa early on after being shutout in Philly. But like buddy you’ve lost five (or however many) in a row, idk how you can stay that optimistic and say that a hard battling loss is better than an ugly two points.

Well said, that is indeed very true. The Canucks are now a team that isn't willing to just be happy to have won a game, they always are saying, what can we still do better. And when they lose a game, they know exactly what went right or wrong and rarely do they the lose the next game. What I see happening is that they have taken on a very strong identity and it's serving them very well. 😊

You nailed it. Showing your emotions and frustration is a powerful thing... and to me this showed that Quinn knows WHEN to use that to wake up his team, instead of it being a distraction or a detriment to the team. That said, it's easy for us fans to praise every decision when the team is winning, but I really do think this guy is perfect captain material... and I think JT Miller needs just as much credit for learning and playing to his strengths for the benefit of the team this year as well.

Those of us who've been watching them for a few years have all been saying the same thing through this incredible run they're having: there's A LOT more potential in this team. They may not be able to do much in the playoffs this year because of their obvious lack of playoff experience, but over the next year or two if they can manage to instill their systems and details even more so in every player while still improving every area of their game and steady all of their players to be the best performing versions of themselves, the team will fire on all cylinders and people are then going to see just what a monster the 'Nucks have been quietly building.

Growing up in the Vancouver area, I have to say, Victoria is such an underrated city. It doesn't have the same amenities as Vancouver, obviously, but it's still a beautiful, somewhat old school city. I remember when I came here 3 years ago, I was told not to go down to Pandora Avenue because it was supposedly, in parts, like the equivalent of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. As someone who worked down there, Victoria's "skid row" is nothing compared to the mainland. It's at least somewhat clean and while there are street people, it's not even close to the same extent as Vancouver. If anything, it's East Van. Nothing particularly dirty or scary.

The ended up getting outshot and outworked heavily to the tune of almost 50-20, but capitalizing on the chances they had. I agree a little bit but what you're missing is that this is also a team that bends sometimes but almost always when they really need to they clutch up and get it done. Good on the Canucks for not folding after the Leafs rallied. I think during the 2nd intermission, someone reminded the Canucks players that the Leafs really aren’t very good.

Something Horvat never did and needed to. Hughes is another level Captain then what we have had in the past.

Sheldon, no time out but your counterpart thought it was warranted, losing a 3 goal lead. Funny happened after that the Vancouver Canucks scored 3 more goals yes allowed the Leafs to score another goal. But they scored two more after that and won the game. Even killed a penalty against 6 players !! Leafs in 6 games in which they squandered the leads never were able to come back and win any of those games. Quinn emotional display on the bench was very different than Travares Mathews Marner Riellys . Look at the tablet or score board head down look out into space

I attended this game lower bowl seats and I am going to say you got it wrong. Quinn showing emotion and being angry on the bench was because Domi cross checked him hard in the corner. Quinn went straight to the bench and was mad because he was in pain I'm guessing. Also Leafs tied the game 3-3 and then 5 mins later Quinn got mad on the bench right after Domi's cross check to his arm. So in a way your video might be wrong.

Can the Canucks just make that their permanent jersey? It’s so good and I’m a Hawks fan.

I gotta be that guy for a sec... But we all know that if one of the Leafs top players did something like this everyone would be ranting about how unhinged and unprofessional they are regardless of the circumstances. I agree, I love when players wear their heart on their sleeve for a bit, but I just find that little bit of context funny.

If Rick Tochet doesn't win coach of the year it's rigged. He's the only really big change on the Canucks and they have gone from a mess to the absolute powerhouse of the league. It's one of the most unbelievable turnarounds I've ever seen.

I wouldn't say there haven't been big changes to the roster and management, bringing in Foote and Gonchar as Assistant Coaches, basically an entirely revamped d core and bottom 6 and not to mention solid backup goaltending. Like a cooking, it takes a good chef to put all the ingredients together and make them work, which is where Tocchet shines. He is a good communicator and is able to get his point across in a way the team can understand and buy into, that is huge

What's impressive is that these are not easy wins. The Canucks have been earning them and not just cruising. Everyone knows the Canucks are the measuring stick and wanna knock them down a peg. So there won't be any easy wins.
