I concur that Bishop is a very nice town and that bakery is too die for. We started our John Muir Trail backpack trip near the town and loaded up on bread the night before. Lone Pine is nice to. There is a good hike that goes to a crystal blue lake on the edge of the Sierra Nevada’s. So beautiful - same trail continues on to Mt Whitney

I was so afraid that you were going to say you'd been bitten by a snake! Not that this bug was any fun, but a snake would have been even scarier! I love that area you're in. Yes, Bishop is awesome. So is Mammoth. But you really do have to be careful of the high winds in the area.

Hey Robin!! Wow you're in my backyard!! I live 80 miles south, one of my best friends lives in Lone Pine right on the edge of the Alabama Hills. I spent my childhood/young adulthood hiking, camping, fishing, and hunting in the areas from Big Pine to Lee Vining. Check out Bodie if you can super cool sealed ghost town. You can look in and see it just as it used to be, but you can't go inside most of the dwellings. Those wasp things are horrible I'm glad you're ok!!! Shout out to China Lake Search and Rescue who work to save lives and assist hikers and campers who get sick, hurt, or lost in the area! They are awesome and work with those tremendously talented Navy pilots to get sick and injured hikers to help!!!

Good gracious what a story! April 23rd I decided to leave Stile Colorado going over 70 to Denver and saw signs for severe weather over Vail Pass. Guess what it began as winds, then rain, which turned to sleet, then light snow and lastly blizzard conditions. I white knuckled it down to Arvada where I literally had to pull over as I was exhausted. At my girlfriends house in Parker I turned on the news that they had closed I70 because of all the accidents. I have been on the road since April 6th and my first real experience in full time van life. Most of the trip has been wonderful so far. Learned to not underestimate the weather.

Sounds like most days in the Mojave Desert. I live in the desert near 395 and the winds can make life a bit hard. Things blow away if not tied now and even then it will fly away. Spring and winter are the worse, but the summer months can still blow. The Lone Pine area is a beauty place. If you ever get a chance to come back to the area be sure to visit Manzanar War Relocation Center. It's just outside of Lone Pine. It is one of the places where Japanese-Americans where held during WW2. When it's open you can visit the museum and tour the camp. It located with beautiful views of the mountains. It's a great place to see history. Hopefully you can revisit the area again.

Oh my gosh Robin...what a story. I had 3 wasps sting me while in SC couple years back. My little dog disturbed a wasp nest on the ground. By the time I walked in to my now husband, I fainted. He had to call EMTs..rushed to hospital and then gave me IV. Never thought I was allergic to wasps. I now have an EppiPen with me if I'm outside..carry one in my purse. You should have one too. Thank God you are ok. An experience. Funny thing we visited about Abbey the other day walking around the grounds. Came home and my ankle started burning, bumps appeared . Bit by something in the grass above my sneakers. But some itch ointment on and it still hurts somewhat. Trip sounded like a nightmare for you..winds and all...Doug new to this...want to see how long he wants to continue RVing. Love to you both.

oh yikes what a sequence of events!!! I'm so thankful all is well, hopefully all is calm! And yes the wind is a mighty force. We travel from SC to Minn 3x yearly, and have learned lots about winds, interstate closings and such. Iowa has one-sided railroad-type guards on their interstate approach lanes, sometimes along the interstate itself. And when the winds are treacherous, those guard gates are dropped and you are there until they raise again. So thankful for your "good endings"!

The only reason I'm not out there now is because my boyfriend isn't into it. He's curious about the whole thing, but he loves the comfort of the house too much right now. He did make a comment a week or so ago, saying "Is this all my life is going to be about? Working, coming home, paying bills and taxes, sleeping, and going right back to work?" Crossing my fingers he may have a change of heart at some point.

Once the blistering began , they covered the bite with a little piece of raw beef and bandaged it. A few hours later took off the bandage up and the larvae were attached to the piece of meat so they could get them out. they then disinfected wound and bandaged it for a couple of days before letting it finish healing on its own heal. .

Was at Fossil Falls this last week and can confirm the high winds, especially at night! Hiking around the “Red Hill” cinder cone was amazing as the wind had swept away any footprints in the sand and it made for great photos. Such a visually unique place! I’m glad that your bug bite didn’t spoil this adventure any more than the high winds. Full time adventure includes inconveniences, but makes for some great stories like this one! There is a Navy geothermal power plant north of Fossil Falls that looks amazing from Goggle Earth; one of the biggest in the country. Hope to tour that in the future.
