Heath Ledger was one of the best actors of his generation. His performances in this movie, "The Dark Knight", and "Brokeback Mountain" combine to make a masterclass in acting. I realize it may not be a film you would necessarily choose to react to, but "Brokeback Mountain" is definitely worth your time just to see his performance. It's a long, slow, sad story, but beautiful and unforgettable.

The building in the movie used for a high school "that looks like Hogwarts" is in fact a REAL HIGH SCHOOL in Tacoma WA. its Stadium high school. I am from the area and it's a pride of the community. It was originally built to be a fancy hotel, but pacific railroad (who owned it at the time of building) ran out of money to finish it properly, so they stopped building it. it sat empty for a few years until the school district bought it and turned it into a high school. the rest as they say, "is history".

I'm a Tacoma native myself, graduated from Bellarmine in 85. The football field is also the actual field that was originally designed as an outdoor amphitheater. Unfortunately, it was closed for many years due to a landslide on the water side (it's a steep drop-off on that end). I believe it was repaired, but I'm not sure.

Looking back, I really love all these characters. Each is flawed, manipulative to some extent, and a touch narcissistic - but these are high school kids. They aren't exactly known for stellar choices and brilliant decision making, they're kids. Cameron probably should have gotten at least some comeuppance for being the spark for all this. All over getting a girl. Then again, Cameron and Bianca are kind of the perfect for each other little scheming couple and I see that working out for them as characters.

This is my favorite 90s teen movie as a teen. As an adult, it's still a favorite. This movie introduced me to Heath Ledger, and watching it now is heartbreaking. Julia Stiles is great in this. I love her in The Bourne movies and the latest The Orphan movies. I also grew up watching Joseph Gordon-Levitt from 3rd Rock From the Sun and I'm glad he’s become a prominent actor. I love how the Oak brought up Pride & Prejudice. This was actually a modern day take on Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew”. @@marianne5055 I’m really glad that you brought up Pygmalion because you made me think of something. It almost seems like these things happen in cycles. Since Pygmalion was the inspiration for My Fair Lady and Romeo and Juliet was the inspiration for West Side Story. And both of those huge hits were back in the 60s. This is kind of making me sad. It really is starting to feel like there are no more new ideas for stories/movies/entertainment. Remember when this came out right when I was about to enter high school. Was kind of a relief to have a movie with normal characters who all had quirks. Was kind of a relief. As a teen who had a hard time even pretending to give a f about half of the stuff I was involved with every day the Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger roles were kind of a relief. Coming out of the crushing conformity of middle school...this movie felt needed at the time. Loved her honesty in the breakdown scene at the end. It's based on Shakespeare so it had that degree of timelessness...but is also the most late 90's thing imaginable. Good stuff.

The cast, the writing, everything. It honestly surprised me how much y'all laughed at the stitches joke, which made me laugh even more. As to your request - my sister and I couldn't be much more different and this was indeed a lot like our relationship. For reference, though, I graduated high school in 1996. I identified with Kat so hard 😂 And my little sister didn't have Bianca's popularity, but she was definitely the socialite. We drifted for a while in her college years, but even then she'd drop in when she was in town. Now our parents are both gone and we're close - live in the same town just to have family near. This was the only movie I loved that I ever tried to show my mom and had her put down what she was doing to give it her full attention. Fond memories.

Yeah in all honesty, every time I watch this movie my heart always hurts a little seeing Heath, but he was great in this and the movie is so much fun. Strong rewatch value 😄💞

Yesss, I love this movie. It's one of my favorites that I love to rewatch and just enjoy. Love Julia and this was the first time I saw Heath Ledger. Now my 15 yr old son stops and starts singing along when Heath is singing when I'm watching it, it's one of those movies he will hang out and watch with me for awhile.

This has been one of my favorite movies since it came out. It really does hold up for the most part (despite a few jokes that should probably be left in the 90s) The band playing in the club and at the end is Letters to Cleo! I love how invested y'all were...and seeing y'all fall apart at the masterful delivery of the "stitches" line by DK was possibly the best thing I've seen all week!

Adaption of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew they did an amazing job. If you want to continue the trend ‘She’s the Man’ is also adapted from one of his plays & is also quite funny. Or if you haven’t seen ‘A Knight’s Tale’ Heath is just spectacular in it, as is the guy who plays Jarvis/the Vision Paul Bettony years before he became well known.

My daughter graduated from this high school. It’s called “Stadium” in Tacoma Washington. Looks out over the Luger sound. They had a plaque dedicated to Heath Ledger after his tragic death. Was fun to walk along the same areas. The parking lot. The field. The “bowl” as they called it where he sang her that song.

When Batman Begins had came out on DVD, there was no word on who would play the Joker. I had rewatched this movie, big fan of it. Friends and I talked about who should play the Joker a couple of days later. I said I think Heath Ledger should play him, I got the funniest looks XD I purely based it on Heath's smile in this movie, where he sits on the seats during his performance to Kat. When he was cast, I was like wtf! My friends were shocked too. Then Heath puts in that performance!

This movie is one of my absolute favourites. I’m also a huge Heath Ledger fan so it’s pretty bitter sweet whenever I watch it. I love listening to all of Oak’s stories 💜 if it’s not already on your list, The Intern (2015) is a really good one too

This movie gets funnier with age. I remember seeing it in theaters when it first came out and laughing throughout. This came out during the time when a lot of Shakespeare plays were being adapted as teen flicks. I remember this one and also Get Over It with Kirsten Dunst which was a teen version of A Midsummer Night's Dream. That one wasn't as funny as 10 Things but it had some good moments here and there and is definitely a time capsule of the late 90's/early 2000's high school life in so many ways. I had forgotten there were so many actors in this who went on to bigger things.
