With all the fantastic audiophile labels out there, there is no way in Hell you can tell me that this LP is worth that much money. I mean, you could've purchased the entire SRX catalog (one year) for close to that price. However, I think it's really nice that they give you the LP wrapped in tissue so you can wipes your eyes when you realize how hard you got screwed buying this LP. (Not giving you crap, just my two cents worth. 😉✌️)

Hey Mike, You got several complaints about your volume. But I can tell you that you absolutely came in loud and clear as usual from where I was sitting in San Diego. Another good video Mike. You, Billy, and Dillon are all successful record store owners that still find the time to put out great quality videos for your customers and the rest of the public. Three excellent examples of how it's done!

You're right Mike, anybody producing niche collectors albums at least needs to match the overall quality of Mofi or AP, who consistently maintain their standards for 20 times the output of ERC for a limited run. Special should mean special, not just scarce!

The Prestige Series for AP was a bargain, so glad i bought all the ones i wanted as they were released. It's funny how back then (not really that long ago!) the idea they would be out of print and be selling for inflated prices a few years later, who knew? I really hope that Craft jump into the Fantasy/Riverside/Contemporary/Prestige vaults and just pick up where the AP series left off.

They don’t normally package them that way, with the shrink. I don’t know if that was just for you Mike or if they’re doing it that way now. I bought the stereo version of Everybody Digs Bill Evans. I had to return the record because it was noisy and sounded like a 50-year-old record. They sent me a replacement which was much less noisy but ridiculous given how much it cost. I sold it. I won’t be buying another ERC title.

@Factory.....seems to me that some of these flaws would be relatively easy to correct before the company ships them out. This company has some of the worst QC I've seen. Too many flaws, period. If Analogue Productions can do it most of the time on a few thousand records, there is absolutely no exuse or reason why ERC can't have the same quality with only 300 records that are 20x more expensive. So yes, there can be absolutely flawless records made, especially at this embarrassing price - IF ERC really wanted to. That is a big IF though.

fingerprint is most likely from the printer. I work in printing, and when we would UV coat stocks, they remain tacky for a few seconds when they come out of the machine. That cover most likely was the last one off the coating machine before the printer guy unloaded the output by hand. Normally one would handle the paper outside the finished area.

Mike, you were being overly generous with this review. It’s a 300 print run, not thousands. Everyone of these should be perfect. You can oversee the production of this run from beginning to end. If there is an issue, you can spot it, correct it. Make adjustments to the production, redo a few. This company does not have any quality control what so ever. Three out of three imperfect records on two different titles from this company is not acceptable. They need overhaul their entire production line system before releasing something else. Understandable if they’ve only printed one or two titles. But I’m assuming they’ve done a lot more than that

My question is the goal of ERC to recreate how the albums were mastered back in the day...or just using tube equipment, mastering for the best that today's TT's can reproduce. Back in the day, some compromises were made to make the records playable on the typical phonograph. Many of which were probably the two-sided "flip over" needles. I rather have the tape mastered that ill allow the best possible sound I can get today vs trying to reproduce a vintage record sonically. Again that's just me

This title was my first experience with ERC and my copy was pristine with no issues. I have to say it's probably one of the best sounding audiophile reissues I have heard and having said that, is it worth the additional money above what the Analogue Productions go for? Not to me. It is a pretty rare title if you are looking for an original pressing in pristine condition and I think you will pay more than what these go for. I'm very happy with the product but the price is the killer for me.

The ERC titles like any other titles on Discogs top selling vinyl will polarize people around cost and value. I'm sure you have records behind you worth more than the ERC which could buy anyone a lot of Analogue productions records. I like your term of "Manufactured Collectible" - makes me think of bitcoin. I don't get the sense that you're a fan of the title in general regardless of the cost.. I wonder how you would find an ERC pressing of a title you found enjoyable and didn't have an original or AP version of.

The $550 price point of these releases have been proven to be absurd. There is soooo many better options for audiophile dollar/s. They really can’t justify it, and that’s before considering any possible shortcomings like the jacket imperfections shown here. A lot of suckers out there.
@Frip36
@Frip36 2 жыл бұрын
Part of the reason it's grossly overpriced is precisely so a certain type of person can tell you how much their copy is "worth"...$550. Which is meant to convey a number of things. One of which is that they can afford it, and you can't. I'm sure there's a proper academic name for it. I call it pricing prestige. This album is essentially a luxury item. A fur coat. Or the $3,500 men's jean jacket I saw in my GQ magazine the other day. BTW if you really want to understand this world, I recommend getting subscriptions to both GQ and Esquire. They pretty much send them to you for free forever. Many of the ads list the pricing in the ads. It's great for a laugh. Then a sigh. Many British companies rely and rest on the English reputation for quality and integrity. It's good to see a plainspoken Yank be very unimpressed with the mystique.

You can get a 6l 40khz unit on ebay for under 100. Then you can build your own hardware to rotate the record for less than 100 which i saw in another video. Granted those tanks are very noisy but they do clean the record using distilled water (some have their own solutions they make or you can add a tiny bit of ipa alcohol to really clean it).

Something else was bowing that LP. Both ERC records he's reviewed, one packed tightly and the other packed with nothing much, and they were both bowed. I'm kind of curious as to what the company is doing with their sleeves.

Wow if I spent that kinda money on a brand new lp I'd record it straight to cassette and just listen to the cassette so has not to damage it.

Analogue productions? Nina Simone? I put a spell on you/Pastel blues? 35 dollars each? Shut up and take my money! Why is it that Chad Kassem can make a record that is perfect in every way for 35 to 40 dollars and ERC can’t at 550?

Looks like a subpar release. You would expect those problems from a bootleg or budget release. I don’t see how it looks like a quality release. I would advise anyone interested to avoid this...junk.

Another example of the snobbery of exclusively for the wealthy repressings.. The inefficiency of the 'one at a time' vinyl presses vs the mass production style presses is uncomparable .. And many of these repressings are in vain because the source material has been in digital form at some stage , and then some come with surface defects, how? you might ask when all are done by hand and must have been hand inspected.. to wit all of these sought after pressings from the past WERE DONE on mass production equipment .. Its just a pure waste of time and energy in my eyes if the end product isnt as good as the 'reference' item they are trying to emulate was or BETTER .. but no, sometimes its just better to be content with the CD version, or by the signed vinyl and keep it sealed and listen to the free digital download.

Hi Mike, You are really being much too kind in your judgement of ERC products, if a company presses records in very small numbers, there should be zero defects. Not in the sleeve, not in the packaging process and certainly not in the vinyl. A $550,00 reissue should not just sound "pretty good" it should blow you out of the water at that price. I would be deeply ashamed if I were CEO at ERC, to me it is a ludicrous overpriced product. Better buy pre owned or master recordings from MoFi. Regarding the filth on the new records, it just should not be there, not at that price! About the same thing as stating that finding some metal chips and drill swarf is o.k. in a new Rolex. Regarding the US cleaning, my experience is that most original vinyl is rejuvenated and sometimes comes out sounding like it it was purchased yesterday. On the other hand new vinyl (not all) sometimes comes out crackling and popping just as bad as before the clean. I salute you for your honest review.

Mike, you must have had a great year to spend $550 on an experiment. That cover is defective, certainly. I respect your opinion in general, I’m still not a fan of your hype about buy it now or else comments on your weekly new release videos, but there is no reason for this kind of price gouging. Records are meant to be accessible for music lovers to afford them as their preferred medium for music. Patronizing these types of nefarious motivated scams, imho, is the wrong message. It was interesting to see thx for sharing.

Price gouging is what flippers do with limited edition releases. After reading about the process behind the production of these records, I get the impression that they're fairly costly to produce. How costly, I've no idea. Is it price gouging? Not when it's straight off the production line. There may be, however, a built in determination to thwart the secondary market.

My all time favourite record is The Beatles - Abbey Road. I own 5 copies of that record including 2 Cd's. There is absolutely no record including Abbey Road that I would pay $550.00 dollars for. Not even "Let It Be" in the original packaging with picture book in the original shrink wrap. I enjoy listening to music. It's about the music. Not about 'collecting'. IMHO.
