It's an old morbid joke about torture using a fictional competition among groups of agents of different intelligence agencies of the world, to find who's best they're commissioned to go into a forest an retrieve a bunny rabbit as fast as they can using any methods at their disposal, the fastest one wins the contest, so the CIA goes first takes X amount of time, then KGB goes in takes them less time, then MI5 turn comes and it takes them way less time than the other 2, finally it last turn comes to a thirdworld intelligence agencie, the agents go into the forest and they come back in the longest (some versions the shortest) possible time, also they come out with a complete different animal (like a bear), everyone laughs and asks them what took them so long and also point out that they brought a different animal to which they reply confident by asking the animal "Hey you! What kind of animal are you?" The animal breaks down crying in pain and answers: I am a bunny rabbit! I am a bunny rabbit! I swear I am one! I am anything you want but please stop the insert torture technique here (like waterboarding)... Waterboarding is a long time known torture technique in some countries, like in Mexico, they used a special kind of really bubbly fizzy water, they tie the victim upside-down, give a good shake to the bottle of water and spray it directly into the subject nostrils and repeat until he starts giving the desired information.

I didn’t think it would be that bad so I had my friends waterboard me. It’s crazy. I went in thinking, I know I’m not drowning so I will just hold my breath and tough it out. Oh how wrong I was. Literally seconds into it my brain totally short circuited and went into fight or flight mode. I was panicking. I could not rationalize that I wasn’t really drowning. It was truly a horrible experience. I would admit to something I didn’t do, to make it stop.

I'm kind of surprised 18 seconds was as long as it went. I have nearly drowned before by being held under water from a rip current and in total it was definitely longer that 18 seconds. Now I was being thrashed around and not always in a position where gravity was allowing water to funnel directly down my nostrils which probably makes a big difference... I'm still just kind of blown away by that.

mrbsausage Well he's right, this isn't how it's done... A cloth over the mouth tricks your mind into making you believe you're drowning, it's the panic involved with that survival instinct that causes you to crack. What they did in this video is really no different to looking up into the shower head raining down on you, it's uncomfortable yes but it's not even a scratch on actual waterboarding.. The guy never claimed to be a torture expert, so your dickish comment was completely unnecessary. 2 minutes of research would tell you this demonstration is wrong, and why it's wrong.

Because waterboarding requires people to lie down, the water would just flow into your nostrils by gravity, so the problem isn't about whether or not you can hold your breath. The water just straight up flows down your nose, effectively causing you to passively 'breathe in water', and thus, causing extreme distress. That is unless you can exhale with such force that you can blow out all water that is flowing in your nose, otherwise, the water would just flow into the nose and down your lungs. Though you could block the path of the water down your nose with your tongue, this prevents any further breathing and the water flooding your nose would extremely torturous anyways. Once you are unable to hold your breath anymore, things become very exciting.

Holding your breath wouldn't change anything because the receptors of your airways will feel the water obstructing them making you go in panic mode. Also, you have a limited expiratory volume and the water flows constantly, and your tongue won't be able to block the water going to your lungs through the nasal pathways. All that to say I think anyone would panic within 5 seconds.

Most of these videos still seem to be missing something from a very early report I remember seeing about the time "waterboarding" entered the national discussion: I thought the board "see-sawed" backwards as the water was being poured to give both the feeling of falling and the water on the face to kick-in the full instinctive panic of drowning. I also definitely know that a cloth is supposed to be over the face and that is pretty much consensus.

Doesn't this renew the perennial question as to the value of information obtained under torture? Even if the subject is able to withstand for a limited period, the information given may well be at the prompting of the interrogater in the form of the questions, as well as the subject liable to answer simply to stop or pause the pain/discomfort. Even brain-washing techniques, such as sleep deprivation, isolation, disorientation, light deprivation, etc. with the implantation of false memories in the sub-conscious, may serve in the subject admitting tearfully to the admission of all sorts of crimes before a People's Court may be of use, but is of no use when trying to extract genuine valuable information! Just a thought.........!

i still don't get why you can't hold your breath in that situation. when i'm diving and turning headsup i just put a bit of pressure in my nose so nothing can get in and i can remain quite a while like this. is it because it's not a steady flow of water so you can build that pressure? i assume it somehow must just go in your nose with any ways to prevent it.

I also still dont get it. Could you be trained to stay calm and hold your breath? As a stuntkayaker the first thing you go through is learning to stay calm underwater for 60 seconds while strapped in and upside down. It was quite easy. I did experience a near-drowning due to being trapped underwater. It was bad, but I have no idea how that compares to waterboarding

The people in this comment section are downright terrible people. You say that the man was a coward for not being able to endure the torture - it was torture! And there are others saying that the method was not done in the correct way to make it as painful as possible, without realising how sick you are. Go ahead, support people who want to use this on others for their own terrible actions. Just know that if we keep on trying to one-up each other on who can be more cruel, we're doomed.

"We cant broadcast all the details." It's simple! Either lay them flat on the ground or preferably on an incline with their feet higher than their head. Put a bag/rag(doesnt matter as long as its fabric) over their face, making sure to completely cover their eyes, nose, and mouth. Then pour water over their mouth and nose area. Don't just empty a bottle on them though, they could get injured/die. You have to use splashes or short pours. You could probably figure it out as you're doing it and be just fine. Stay classy, San Diego. Those guys seemed like they were having a little too much fun.

+Nur Afiq Bin Mahadi Why should he, he never killed anyone. This is a torture method to extract information from an insider terrorist/criminal who won't confess up. This isn't for a random civilian, this is to get more information from a criminal we happen to have alive on our hands.

+The Screaming Midget there are still other ways to extract information with showing mercy. If the person is at fault, still a person must not be tortured. If you have simply broken a law, there are consequences but not torturing or tormenting the guy. Waterboarding is one of the few most dangerous torture method. If you don't drown from it, you may unlikely suffer from lung infection due to liquid entering their lungs.
@minnakay6378
@minnakay6378 8 жыл бұрын
Nobody would get waterboarded for jaywalking. Nobody would get tortured for mugging or robbing or even raping. This is a more serious method for hard criminals and terrorists...you can either maintain peace for innocent civilians or you can show love and affection for killers and terrorists. You cannot do both at the same time. "Lung infections" are nothing. To be honest, I would support much more serious torture methods for brainwashed terrorists who actually think that killing Americans and Europeans will give them eternal paradise. If I could, I would kill them with my bare hands. Those kinds of creatures are not people at all. Once you can kill an innocent person with no remorse, thinking that a "god" will be satisfied, you've lost all mental sanity and such vulgar acts don't show a human's empathy or conscience. Waterboarding isn't for people who broke a law - there are many people that rob / steal / kill accidentally or while suffering from mental disorders, etc. and those people need therapy primarily. I don't mean to sound cruel, and I understand your point, but it's necessary to remember that in such situations you can either protect your country or protect the people who want to destroy it. If we continue to let people step on us, that would destroy more lives than if we stopped ISIS, etc. instead. Not that I think waterboarding will be that useful. These are people who are so brainwashed from the day they were born, being told that America was the enemy and we deserve to be killed. The number of supporters / people funding ISIS, al Qaeda, etc. are no joke - there are too many people involved. There are so many people who even don't publicly support or fund them, but they support them internally / mentally, you know? It's crazy shit, I also wish we weren't at this point.

+The Screaming Midget No matter how harsh is the crime that a person has committed, that doesn't mean the person must be tortured to be interrogated for information. You got the wrong idea. Small or big crime, there has a consequences for the person who commited a crime. And no torture should be legal whether by a higher class citizen or higher authorities. But there are consequences and punishment but no torturing methods to be involved.
