Napalm is an incendiary mixture of a gelling agent and a volatile petrochemical. Napalm burns at temperatures ranging from 800 to 1,200 °C (1,470 to 2,190 °F). In addition, it burns longer than gasoline, is more easily dispersed, and sticks tenaciously to its targets. These traits make it extremely effective (and controversial) in the antipersonnel role. Reportedly about 352,000 tonnes of US napalm bombs were dropped in Vietnam between 1963 and 1973

@@danielwoods3896 They were communists, I haven’t read up on the battle, but if they met their objectives, maybe took the fire support base, they won by numbers. Communists are all about using the majority working class to achieve their objectives, and that means shoving them into uniform and sending them into the weapons of capitalism/the aristocracy or whatever.

@@danielwoods3896 Huh? That looks and smells like American cope tbh. There is a whole controversy on the body count of the Vietnam War, Westmoreland and McNamara openly lied about NVA casualties and hided American ones. Most of the numbers given by American generals are overly exaggerated. They didn't want the protest in America to get violent, or show that America was losing.

Dialogue at the beginning of the video implies they're fucked and they know it. Accordingly they call in a strike on themselves to ensure they aren't captured, and to take the enemy with them. Its very sad.
@randallsanchez3161
@randallsanchez3161 2 жыл бұрын
Opening dialogue is from the movie Platoon. The firebase had been in combat for a while and the Vietnamese were completely overrunning the base with what was left of a regiment. The commander called it in while hand to hand combat was going on 50ft away from him. All other command posts were destroyed by NVA artillery or suicide bombers. The jets were reporting they couldnt lay down any more ordnance any closer and they were running out of fuel. The Cmdr knew that he was dead either way so he rolled the dice by having them drop on his firebase to try and take out as many as possible. He and a few others in sandbagged shelters survived but not many others.

My grandfather was a pilot during Mid to Late Vietnam. He and a buddy of his flew a McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II on a couple of missions. He doesn't like to talk about it, like any other soldier. Sometimes he'll bring it up after a few drinks, and just looking at him rembering. Telling me these wild stories with a look on his face as if he is right there in the moment. One story he brings up a lot is a mission dropping ordnance on a enemy occupied train yard in the dead of night. He seems to like that story, but I can tell his time serving in Vietnam really impacted him. It's to be expected from a war like that. Love you Grandpa
