I’m from Oxford, I’ve gone every year since being little and I thought everyone knew what it was what. People used to jump in the river off the bridge but they had to stop after drunk students kept drowning because they’d get stuck under the punts. I used to Morris dance at school, the dancers gather round Radcliffe camera and each neighbourhood has a group of Morris dancers and they all dance like in a dance off. The man dressed as the tree is the green man and the red band are the Salvation Army. It’s so much fun! Xx

It's not that odd at all. We used to have that where we lived too. But over the years, from different towns, connected together, and becoming an actual city, and now a devolved region.. This is what I actually miss THE most. I really don't like the "out of town" model that we have across the entire country. Something is lost here really.... And in this lockdown, all the "cities" have literally just gone. Many more people have moved back into towns ?

In Switzerland we have this Annual Tradition of burning/blowing up a snowman while people in 15th century clothing ride around the snowman waiting until it blows up. This will determine if it will be a good or a bad summer. It’s called „sächsilüüte böög“ Y’all aren’t the only ones with weird traditions.

At USSR it was major holiday (Int Day of Workers) with official marches and songs about work. A lot of speeches from government and no fun except of red balloons for children. In modern Russia it is still a holiday, but noone is celebrating it except for small official events. We got a non working day, so everyone likes 1st of May.

this video reminds me of an old swedish tradition that's also on the 1st of may. Everybody gathers around in parks and watches a big fire consisting of very small sticks... Nobody quite know how it started some say it's because of witches and some say it's to celebrate the beginning of summer :) I didn't know of any other countries that had any tradition of celebrating the first of may but it was very interesting to see!
